CRAPPIE FISHING GRENADA LAKE

West Tennessee

OUTDOORS

with Ray Jones Send photos to: Grenada Lake is known for having some of numberonecoach@hotmail.com the biggest monster crappies in our Amerior 731-694-8614 ca. The Mississippi Department of Wildlife keeps up with this lake and provide anglers with the latest fishing reports. There is a 15 fish limit of 12 inches and under which sounds unfair, but most crappie caught will be much larger than 12 inches. It is the crappie capital of Mississippi with people coming from all over to get a chance to catch some of the largest crappie in the United States. As of July 12, 2022 Collins bait shop reports that lots of fish have ben caught using a variety of methods such as trolling jigs and crankbaits, minnow fishing and even worms in some cases. Fish are being caught in 10 to 15 feet of water in standing timber and creek channels, or over stake beds. They suggest using larger bait and fish deeper for larger crappie. For current fishing reports on Grenada Lake call 662-226-3581. Photo is crappie recently caught on Grenada Lake.

And Your Point is . . . EDITORIAL:

The Social Crisis, Black Folks and the Economy

NNPA NEWSWIRE —July 17, 2022 By John E. Warren, Publisher, The San Diego Voice & Viewpoint It appears that we continue to live in Charles Dickens’ “A Tale of Two Cities.” He wrote these words: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.” Where you fit in between “the best of times” and “the worst of times” really depends on who you are today in America. For African Americans, too many of us are still experiencing the worst of times, and things will not get better unless we decide to make them so. While America is excited about abortions and gun violence, we have been victims of the latter, with civil rights violations and voter suppression being more important than abortions to most of us. The speed with which the President moved with an Executive Order to assist the abortion issue and his mentioning of overturning the Filibuster Rule were both absent on the Voting Rights and Civil Rights issues. Nevertheless, it is now our turn to correct all this. Just as our votes made Joe Biden president and sent two U.S. senators to the Senate from the State of Georgia, it is now our turn to rally in every state that the Trump people are trying to “Steal” in the coming elections. We must vote out their supporters. This means that no matter what the social issues that emerge, we must stay focused on who is seeking to get elected and whether they will commit to overturning the Filibuster Rule in the Senate. While some say we need two more U.S. Senators so that we can break the chokehold of Senator Manchin and Senator Sinema, who vote with the Republicans on all issues, we must examine all the Senate races and throw our

support into every state race where we find a candidate who will commit to our agenda. Remember, only one third of the Senate is up for election each election cycle. Just as in Georgia, we can make a difference. Trump and the Conservative Right are counting on a low voter turnout in November, just four months away. From the voter turnout in most primaries so far, they have been right. Let’s remember that we, as Black people, are responsible for the Voting Rights Act, and the Civil Rights Act. We elected Obama twice and Biden once. We are not apathetic. We are just tired. But we cannot stop to rest. As Robert Frost wrote, “The woods are dark and deep, but I have miles to go before I sleep.” Voter Registration and Voter Turnout in all 50 States must become our Number One Priority, at all costs. More important than abortions, homelessness, high gas prices and bad Supreme Court Decisions. Let registration begin and let’s track the numbers week by week. As Rev. Ben Chavis, President of the National Newspaper Publishers Association has said, “We want 10 million new registered voters by November 2022. Let’s make this the “Best of Times” in spite of what appears to be the “Worst of Times.”

OF STRESS, CHOICES, AND TUNNEL VISION

by Elvis Rogers, Columnist When stress is heightened your body produces an extremely high level of adrenaline that can cause tunnel vision. This is one of the reasons why eye witness accounts of a stress inducing event or situation may not always be the most accurate assessment of that situation or event. One of the by-products of modern technology is that we are bombarded by minute-to-minute decision making demands that are difficult to avoid. These seemingly small demands build up throughout the day to produce stress and lead to tunnel vision in how we approach living our lives .At certain times I go to WalMart to buy shampoo. I am a simple person and I really don’t care about the brand choice I make. In fact I would probably just use dishwashing liquid if I didn’t think my wife would think ill of me. I guess my brand choice decision amounts to habit more than anything else. It is a choice I don’t have to make or want to make. On the counter at Wal-Mart there are probably 300 types, scents, brands and container sizes of shampoo and conditioner. It’s not that I don’t care at al,l but the truth is that I simply don’t care enough to learn about all of them. As long as I have hair on my head and it’s clean, I’m happy. When the day comes that my brand is no longer in the space where it usually rests then there is a good chance that I will grab whatever is there in it’s place. When I pump gas I usually have to make a couple of choices first that I didn’t ask to make. Choices about discount cards or potato chips. When I go through the checkout line at a store the transaction is usually also peppered with questions and decisions. If I search any topic on my phone, let’s say it might be a question about a banana, then everything I do on a phone or a computer for the next few days will be interrupted by questions fired back at me relating to bananas. “Want to get a good deal on a shirt with a picture of a banana on it”? “Want to grow bananas”? “Would you buy a book about bananas”? It never ends and it robs us of having quiet moments, private spaces, personal reflection or deep thoughts. Will there be a time in the future when humans will grow resentful of technology and view it as controlling, restraining, or an unwelcome intrusion? That could well happen with a future generation in much the same way as the baby boomers of the 1960’s viewed the social norms of their time as an obstacle to the life they wanted. Only time will tell, and that’s only if we get the time for it to tell. First I have to inform the world that I’m no longer interested in the research or acquisition of bananas and that I have enough shampoo to last the month. I guess that’s important to somebody, somewhere. E.Roger - writerworker.com 07-21-22 CSENEWS P.9

Former Madison County Booster Club Treasurer Indicted for Theft

An investigation by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office has resulted in the indictment of Charity [Maddox] Baker, the former treasurer of Madison Academic High School’s (MAHS) Mustang Rebounders Club. The club was formed to support the MAHS Lady Mustangs basketball team. The investigation began after Jackson Madison County School System officials reported missing funds to the Comptroller’s Office. Investigators determined that Baker stole at least $7,582.94 from the club between April 2017 and June 2019. She was able to steal the money by withdrawing cash from the club’s bank account using bank counter checks.
