“I’m running for Re-Election”

By Downtown Ricky Brown - CSE News Madison County Sheriff John Mehr says “I’m seeking a third term as your Sheriff.” During Sheriff Mehr’s 55th community meeting held at Medon City Hall, Sheriff Mehr was asked if he would be running for re-election for Sheriff in 2022. The Sheriff said, “it’s not an official statement, but I said yes. ARMYWORMS ARE WINNING THE WAR

West Tennessee

There is nothing new about the armyworms the only thing new is for OUTDOORS them to be everywhere and they are everywhere. They show up from time with Ray Jones but this is the first time they have invaded all of West Tennessee. Send photos to: Starts out with a little brown spot in the yard and before you know it the numberonecoach@hotmail.com or 731-694-8614 whole yard is brown. A trip to any hardware type of store and you will be flooded with people trying to find what to do. There are people standing around talking about their stories and how upset they are about what occurred. One man in Tractor Supply said he went out of town for two days with plans to cut his pasture upon returning. He said that when he got home there was nothing to cut. They multiply rapidly and do a lot of damage real quick. Most pesticides will eliminate them but there are some natural solutions that you might try such as mixing dawn detergent with water and spraying it on your yard. The good news is you can get rid of them if you take proper procedures but the bad news is that if you do nothing you will lose the war. Get after those armyworms so we can have beautiful lawns in The Good Ole Outdoors of West Tennessee and win the Armyworm War.

West Tennessee Healthcare –

‘Open letter to our communities’ BY DAVID THOMAS AUGUST 23, 2021 -wnws.com

Dear West Tennesseans, Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the first COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine has been known as the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, and will now be marketed as Comirnaty (koe-mir’-na-tee), for the prevention of COVID-19 disease in individuals 16 years of age and older. The vaccine also continues to be available under emergency use authorization (EUA), including for individuals 12 through 15 years of age and for the administration of a third dose in certain immunocompromised individuals. As the region’s largest healthcare system, providing the highest levels of specialized care during this pandemic, we are pleading for the public to get vaccinated against COVID-19. We are taking care of some of the highest numbers of COVID-19 patients in the state of Tennessee, and the majority of our hospitalized patients (>90%) are unvaccinated. Our healthcare team members are exhausted, saddened and frustrated that our communities are not taking simple steps to aid in this crisis. Like the hospitals in Middle Tennessee and in the Shelby County area, we are seeing increasing numbers of hospitalizations in all of our facilities and have been operating in surge capacity, but our ICU beds and staff are limited resources. The number of patients in our facilities threatens to overwhelm our healthcare system, and we need your help in fighting a war – a war against a virus for which there is a tool to fight it – the vaccine. Please know that we are doing all that we can to support and serve our communities, but we desperately need your help. If you have questions about the vaccine, please contact your physician or a healthcare provider that you trust. We believe the vaccine is safe and effective and even though you might still get COVID-19 if you are vaccinated, the chance of becoming seriously ill, becoming hospitalized or even dying is very low. If you have been vaccinated already, we thank you! We have served the region for seventy-one years, taking care of the most serious conditions, like heart attacks and strokes, and cancer, and we want to continue to do so. However, in this environment, our ability to continue to do so and provide the best care possible is compromised when our hospitals are full of COVID-19 patients. We know that this can be prevented. Please stand behind our healthcare workers, and help protect our communities’ access to quality healthcare in this time of need. We need your help to save lives – NOW! Sincerely, The Leadership of West Tennessee Healthcare 08-26-21 CSENEWS P.2

“We bring in a lot of training which helps the officers do their jobs. We are always looking for new ways to make this a better community.” Mehr said a $300,000 mental health transport grant for personnel and vehicles used for all involuntary people being evaluated at facilities became the pilot program for the State of Tennessee. Mehr also said he also believes a $3.2 million mental illness grant he helped secure has been of great value for the sheriff’s department. “It’s been very important,” said the Sheriff. “So many people suffer from mental illness and part of our work is working with other organizations across the nation. The grant built a mental health area for the patients, which is a diversion program.” Mehr said his department doesn’t wait for problems to arrive in Madison County. “We can’t wait for issues to come to us, we have to prepare ahead of time.” said Mehr.

Join me in congratulating my friend Danielle Pierce as the CrimeSEEN Examiner Newspaper “Reader of the Week.” Danielle said “I really like reading the CrimeSEEN Examiner weekly newspaper for up to date information on people to know about. And Your Point is . . . Corruptible Seeds - By Elvis Rogers

Humboldt City Schools Superintendent, Dr,. Janice Epperson (center) is joined by HHS student Adalenna Gabarra and parent, Brittney Keller. CSE News - Staff

HUMBOLDT HIGH HOST EDUCATION FIRST

A handful of small business owners attended an workshop focused on providing information to high school students about attending college and becoming entrepreneurs. The event was held at the Humboldt Junior Senior High School Library, 2600 Viking Drive, Humboldt, TN, Monday, August 23, 2021. “A Four-Year College/University is not for every student. All students deserve to choose the direction they take for their career and livelihood,” said Angela Reed (top right), the workshop coordinator. Summer Maclain from Tennessee Technology Center of Jackson, joined small business owners who presented products ranging from cosmetics to air B&Bs to provide information and answer questions. Vendors included, CrimeSEEN Publisher Bill Marable, Air B&B owner Christine Warrington, Day Care center owner Tracy Claybrook, Tiffany Nance of Nance Tax Service, Mary Kay Consultant, Vicky Nunn, Chancelor Baskerville of Baskerville Funeral Home, and Hair stylist, Beverly Cannon. Humboldt Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Janice Epperson was also in attendance and thanked the vendors and students for attending the workshop. “It means a lot to me, the students and teachers to have you business professionals participate in this workshop,” said Dr. Epperson. “We will have to do this again.”

We exist in life along a spectrum. At each end of this spectrum in our society there are 5% of people that make up the extremes. Most of us are some where lost in the remaining 90%. The extremes are the ones that bring about all the changes. They are the ones in the news. They are the cultural figures, the political figures, the religious figures and sometimes the bad or reckless people that do things and get noticed. They are the reason that we have a million laws on the books and a policy manual 5 inches thick at our workplace. They are the reason rat poison has a warning message reminding you not to personally eat it. They are the corruptible seeds of life. The extremes at both ends of the spectrum are of course opposites of each other and they wage a daily battle to influence our thoughts and actions to their cause or way of thinking. We “non-extremes” are not nearly as concerned with their issues as we are with our own issues such as family, work, health, schedules. We just try to put one foot in front of the other as best we can but regardless of this the extremes are there to punch us in the face the moment we wake up in the morning. Because of this I have a recommendation for you. The recommendation is that you find out exactly who you really are. A lot of us seem to agree with whomever is in front of us. Most of us just “go along to get along”. We agree with anything.(at least in public). We look around to see what every body else is doing. We squirm a little, smile and nod. But, who are you? Do you know? Can you define, at least to yourself what your beliefs are? What is your ideal? What values do you stake your life on? Try this exercise: first get a notebook and pen .Write down the most important broad topics you can think of. Let’s start with religion, politics, family and work. Now Ask yourself and be honest about it, What is actually your religious belief? Do you believe in God? The Bible? If you say you are spiritual, the what spirit are you talking about? What about family? Is marriage important? Fidelity or responsibility important? Do you care if your friends are cheaters? Does that matter or reflect on you? How about work? Do you really like your job? Do you just do it because you are afraid to change? In politics, how do you define yourself? If you are non-political, then why do you vote? And of course for all these questions you really should think about the “why” of how you feel. You can continue to move on to other topics of the day such as the death penalty, abortion, taxes, gender identity, the homeless, same-sex relationships and so on. You can even move on to things such as bigfoot, ghosts, and UFO’s if you like. The important thing is to establish, at least to yourself, who you really are. Now granted you may not want to broadcast the answers to this to the general public (you’ll lose a lot of friends more than likely), but at least you will know and that’s important....plus you’ll be a leg up on most people. Now, one more thing - don’t predicate anything on the thoughts of others and don’t use terms and words such as “sometimes” or “it depends” or “if” or “in some circumstances”. That’s a cop-out. That’s avoidance of the answer. The benefits of this exercise are that you will build self-respect, you won’t have to sway in the wind if someone asks your opinion about something, you can make better decisions and as a bonus.......you will be able to spot a person that doesn’t know who HE is from a mile off. Try this and see what you think! Welcome your comments: elvisrogers@yahoo.com guest columnist

You fought to die, thinking In destruction lies the seed Of birth. You may be right. I will remember silent walks in Southern woods and long talks In low voices Shielding meaning from the big ears Of overcurious adults. You may be right. AREA FLOODING: Cont’d from page 8

According to David Thomas with Grace Media, he was leaving Nashville and could not pass through I-40 as the THP was rerouting traffic to Highway 70 and Highway 100 for hours. As of Monday another 20 people are still reported missing in the area. According to Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis, “we are still evaluating the damage and entire situation.” Catastrophic flooding in the area happened as a record breaking 17 inches of rain fell in Waverly in less than 24 hours, setting a new one day rainfall record in Tennessee. According to the Sheriff, “the people who are missing are mainly from the area hit the hardest from the initial impact of the flooding. From children to the elderly is what our deceased is ranging from.” Waverly Department of Public Safety Director Grant Gillespie said “the number of missing people went down from 40 to 20 after postings on social media helped.” Gillespie also said there have been an arrest made Sunday for looting. Someone was caught trying to steal from a business that was damaged from the storm. Schools have been cancelled in Humphreys County this week due to the flooding. The sheriff also said they are having issues with notifying victims families because of infrastructure damage in the county. Emergency officials have opened up the reunification center at McEwen High School and it will remain open to help loved ones get information about the search for missing people. The Sheriff asked people to avoid Waverly if possible, as power still remains out in much of the area and several businesses were damaged by the torrential rains. If you don’t need to come into Waverly, a 8:00 pm curfew is in place now in Humphreys County until further notice. “Please don’t come at this time said the sheriff.” The Red Cross has set up an online resource for flood survivors can register and let family and friends know they are safe. Multiple bridges and roads remain closed at SR1/US 70, SR230, SR48N, remain closed from flooding and debris impact. More than 10,000 customers remain without power in the area, as search and rescue teams are still searching the area for victims. Shelters reported 89 people are being housed at this time. State resources being utilized by directions from Governor Bill Lee include: Tennessee Department of Health and Human Services providing support and basic human needs; Tennessee National Guard, THP, TDOT, and Tennessee wildlife resources agency will be assisting local officials with search and rescue, traffic control and local law enforcement support. The Tennessee Civil Air Patrol is conducting aerial damage assessments also. CSE news will keep the area updated on continuing developments on this story.
