MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — A Madison County man previously convicted on charges including aggravated burglary, arson and evading arrest is headed to prison for more than eight years. Authorities say 26-year-old Reggie Carnell James Jr., of Denmark, has been sentenced to 100 months in federal prison for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. According to a news release, on August 20, 2019, the U.S. Marshals Service and the Jackson Police Department Gang and Street Crimes Unit were completing the execution of a search warrant on North Parkway in Jackson when an investigator saw James — whose license was suspended at the time — driving a vehicle. MAN SETS GIRLFRIEND’S CAR ON FIRE & ASSAULTS HER WHEN SHE BREAKS UP WITH HIM

04/20/2021Jason Steen - https://www.scoopnashville.com/ 25-year-old Ryan James was booked on an outstanding warrant today, charging him with vandalism after he is alleged to have caused significant burn damage to the seat of a car by setting it on fire, and with domestic assault, after he repeatedly struck his girlfriend in the face and in the back of her head when she told him she was breaking up with him. Ryan James (right) was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail on April 20th on outstanding warrants stemming from an incident that happened in July of 2020. Arrest warrants detail that his girlfriend was breaking up with him while they were sitting in her vehicle, at which time he threatened to beat her face in if she continued to break up with him, which she did. The victim says that Ryan James then ripped the rearview mirror from the windshield, and use a lighter to ignite the front seat of her vehicle, causing significant burn damage, according to investigators. He then struck her in the back of the head with a closed fist, then struck her twice more with a closed fist to her face after she attempted to go inside the residence to alert his mother.

THE WALK

West Tennessee The morning routine of people walking around West Tennessee cannot OUTDOORS be ignored on a daily basis. There seems to be a poetic stride to their with Ray Jones Send photos to: steps and a joy that goes with it. Small rural towns are full of people who stroll the streets with a certain numberonecoach@hotmail.com or 731-694-8614 gait that can be recognized from far off and you will know exactly who they are long before you get close to them. The different gaits that people have on their morning journey amazes me. There’s Anthony West who always looks around to see who is passing by because he knows everyone and everyone knows him, therefore he speaks to almost every vehicle. Then there is Mr. Turner who points to the ground each time a car passes by him. Anthony Lott has a slow gait with a wobble that is undeniable and can never be confused with anyone else as he listens to his headphones. There’s Charlie Jelks who has a slow stride where his steps are deliberate and the one foot steps directly in front of the other. There are many others seen on a daily routine who brightens your day such as Charles and Lucille (Blues Legend Sleepy John Estees son and daughter) who often walk together and remind you of their late dad. Lastly there is another John who walks fast with a pimp in his stride that carries the connotation that just because I’m walking don’t play me cheap. Just as people drive Fords and Chevys walkers have a brand of their own. THE PHOTO IS ANTHONY WEST ON HIS DAILY STROLL.

James was arrested and charged with driving on a suspended license. Officers observed a Glock pistol on the driver’s seat floorboard. It was later discovered the pistol had been reported stolen by its owner. Upon searching the car, officers discovered: A drum magazine loaded with 21 rounds of ammunition - A backpack that contained eight individually wrapped baggies of marijuana, totaling 203.41 grams - A clear bag containing 3.45 grams of meth A digital scale - 16 THC vape cartridges - An unloaded Taurus 9mm handgun - A loaded Smith & Wesson .38 caliber revolver Additionally, James was searched while in custody. Officers found five hyrdrocodone pills in his right front pocket. His left pocket contained 4.48 grams of marijuana and $495 in cash. As a result of being convicted of earlier felonies in Madison County, James is prohibited by federal law to possess firearms or ammunition. James was sentenced by U.S. District Judge J. Baskerville Funeral Home Directors of Distinction

802 N. 9th Ave. * Humboldt, TN www.baskervillefuneralhome.com BUDDY PATEY - February 7, 1926-April 23, 2021*

On behalf of our Family, it is with a heavy heart to announce the passing of my Dad, R.L. “Buddy” Patey, from this life that he most fully lived...to the next and well deserved eternal life for which he no doubt had the highest level of faith in it’s reality and existence. Dad’s “Life Resume’” alone is, humbly, so notable over his 95 plus years as to just be too countless to set forth at this time,...and in turn it actually diminishes the true nature, heart and spirit of the Man. To truly understand Buddy Patey and why he accomplished so much would first require someone to see what we always witnessed as his ever-present intrinsic qualities: First, that he naturally connected with and loved people of all demographics & Secondly, that he just was the happiest, most caring and generous person that we knew. Simply, Dad’s “favorite things” (even more than Football!) were that he loved his Family and all People. He literally personified “The Golden Rule” and, for that, he was the most blessed Man I have personally ever known. As he was dying, my brother Pat and I were next to him when I asked: “Dad, to what do you attribute your long life?”...for which without any hesitation he responded “When you can, Help People” and smiled. So, it wasn’t a heavy handed dictate, because he always weaved grace into the variable (“When you can”)...but the central focus of his life having been so well done was 2 words...”Help People”. No human is “perfect” and that’s not what I’m expressing about Dad,...but I have no doubt that we all have a “purpose”. God allowed us to have Buddy Patey a long time here in order for God to share his good qualities with this world, and I believe that God will now share this kind hearted, engaging and loving Man with Eternity. We love you Dad, Your Family ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral, Burial and Visitation arrangements are underway and will be announced soon. All inquiries may be directed to George A. Smith & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, 2812 North Highland Ave, Jackson TN 38305, 731-427-4555. Obituary and more details to follow on their Website.

GUILTY VERDICT - April 20, 2021 What a Day! Many of us have been waiting for a day when “Justice for All”

Bravo to would become a reality. Today, the family of George Floyd received Justice when Darnella Frazier, a guilty verdict was rendered in all three counts against Derek Chauvin who was the teenager who charged with murder. This is the first time that police department officers took the took the video, stand to testify against one of their own. This is the first time a white police officer as she shouted has been found guilty in a court of law for causing the death of a black person. This is the first time that the video of an incident was used as direct evidence and “Thank you God, Thank you, contributed to the guilty verdict of a white police officer. George Floyd…. What does this day mean? In the African American community, this day will go we did it!” And down in history. Many felt that it would never come. One commentator stated that even though we saw it with our own eyes, we have been conditioned to believe that authorities would find a way not to validate what we the unidentisaw. Not one person accepted the excuses made for the cause of George Floyd’s death. A pre existing condition repeating her did not cause the death of this black man on this day or moment in time, because we all saw a 9 minute-30 second video. EXHAUSTING TIMES: The Journey for “Justice” Hello Friends, The Rambsy Law team understands that these continue to be very difficult times. As a result, so many people are mentally and physically exhausted. We are still in the midst of a devastating pandemic. Injustice continues to invade every crevice of our society. Racial violence continues to threaten specific demographics of our society. Last week was a particularly difficult week. Many of us were on edge as the verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial was announced. Chauvin, the former police officer who murdered George Floyd, was ultimately found guilty of all three (3) charges related to the horrific killing. Nevertheless, it is hard to say that justice was served. The verdict will not allow George Floyd to breathe again, and it will not retract Chauvin’s knee from Floyd’s neck. Moreover, the guilty verdict is not enough to “fix” a system that continuously devalues the lives of an already marginalized segment of the population.

During these past few weeks, the names of many others have been placed on a long list of individuals whose lives have been lost under questionable, confusing, and/or unjustifiable circumstances. Just a few days before the verdict was issued in the murder of George Floyd, Daunte Wright was killed by police—in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, a city only a short distance away from Minneapolis where George Floyd was killed.

Shortly after Derek Chauvin was found guilty, news came of Ma’Khia Bryant, a 15-year-old teenager killed by police in Columbus, Ohio. The already tense time period before, during, and after the Derek Chauvin trial continued with even more killings of Black and Brown people during police encounters. The names of Adam Toledo, Anthony J. Thompson, and Andrew Brown, Jr., have been added to a list that, sadly, appears to grow longer with each day. As mentioned, these are exhausting times. Living in the midst of systemic oppression is no easy feat. Nevertheless, the fight for justice is not over. Even more, the fight is not getting any easier. Now, more than ever, time and resources must be dedicated to a fight that does not simply aim to “fix” a system. Instead, there must be serious efforts to restructure a system that has become too comfortable with discarding and disregarding so many of its most vulnerable members. Rambsy Law will continue to fight—ALWAYS! But the Rambsy Law team is also cognizant of the need to protect our minds, bodies, and spirits. Self-care is not just a trendy buzzword. Self-care is a way of life. We are inundated with constant images of violence, threatened by a system that is void of justice, and overwhelmed by exhaustion. Even as we fight, we will continue to take the necessary steps to ensure that we maintain physical and mental well-being. Sometimes this means taking a break from the people, events, and ideas which do not value us, do not honor us, and/or do not understand us. Sometimes self-care simply means saying NO. And yes, sometimes self-care means doing NOTHING for certain periods of time. This justice fight is a marathon and not a sprint. We must prepare for a long journey. And in the midst of chaotic destruction, we must continue to look forward to more HEALING, HEALTH, and HOPE. Keep fighting. Guard your hearts, minds, and bodies. WOMAN SLAMS CAR IN REVERSE AND BACKS OVER A FRIEND OUT OF ANGER, BREAKING HER LEG DURING AN ARGUMENT

04/24/2021 -Jason Steen 44-year-old Angela Briley was booked on an outstanding warrant Friday, which detailed she was arguing with a female friend who got out of the vehicle they were in, then put the car in reverse and backed over before fleeing the scene. The victim suffered a broken leg and required plates and screws during surgery to repair the damage. Goodlettsville police serve an outstanding felony warrant on Angela D. Briley Friday, for a January incident in which she backed over Tonie Duke. Court records detail that on January 29th at 10 p.m., Briley was driving with Duke as a passenger when they arrived at 606 North Main Street in Goodlettsville, where Duke was exiting the car when the pair got into an argument. As Duke tried to remove her thing from the vehicle, Briley repeatedly locked the door and put the vehicle in forward and reverse multiple times to make retrieving the items more difficult. Donald Stockton was able to witness the incident and confirmed the details to the police.

Angela Briley (MNPD)

As Duke was walking around to the other side of the car, Briley popped the car in reverse and backed over Duke, breaking her leg in the process. Briley fled the scene without any attempt to get her medical treatment, and NFD transported her to Skyline, where surgeons used plates and screws to repair the broken leg. Angela Briley is charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon with serious and intentional bodily injury, and remains jailed in lieu of a $15,000 bond.

MOTHER FIRED SHOT INTO MEMPHIS DAYCARE AFTER ARGUMENT WITH EMPLOYEE

by: Eryn Taylor, Luke Jones - wreg.com Apr 27, 2021-MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A parent faces charges of attempted murder and reckless endangerment after police say she fired a gun into a daycare in an apparent dispute with an employee Tuesday. According to police, the woman arrived at La Petite Academy on New Allen Road to pick up her child. There was some sort of altercation with an employee over payments, and police said the building’s front window was shot out. Police said there were children inside the daycare at the time, but no one was hurt. Police later identified the woman who fired the shot as Daija Taylor, aka Daija Williams. She left the scene occupying a black Nissan south on Old Allen towards Hawkins Mill. A warrant was issued for Taylor on two counts of attempted first-degree murder, 63 counts of reckless endangerment and employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. Taylor was not in custody as of 5:30 p.m. Police released surveillance video of the event, seen below:

La Petite Academy sent out the following statement:

Everyone is safe as the authorities are investigating an unprecedented situation early this afternoon involving a shot being fired into the front door. A parent became confrontational and verbally abusive during a discussion about her family not meeting attendance requirements to stay enrolled. Just after exiting the building, she came back and shot at the front door from the sidewalk. Thankfully no one was injured. Our staff immediately enacted our emergency protocols. We have resumed our regular activities after briefly sheltering in place. As an additional safeguard, we will have security personnel on site until further notice. Nothing is more important to us than the safety and wellbeing of everyone in our school community. The woman walked out of the daycare and then tried to get back inside but was unable to due to the front door being locked. She knocked on the door and then fired a single shot into the daycare, police said.

TDOT Reminds Motorists to Work with Us – Move Over and Slow Down in Work Zones

National Work Zone Awareness Week April 26-30 NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Transportation is joining states across the nation to ask motorists to Work with Us – move over and slow down for highway workers. TDOT will spread that message statewide during National Work Zone Awareness Week (April 26-30) to improve safety in Tennessee’s interstate and highway construction and maintenance work zones. “It’s been five years since our TDOT family lost three employees struck and killed by passing motorists, and it’s still fresh in our memories,” TDOT Commissioner Clay Bright said. “Hundreds of TDOT employees are working on our highways each day. We need motorists to work with us by moving over and slowing down for TDOT workers or first responders working along our interstates and state routes. We ask drivers to pay attention to signs, observe the handsfree law, reduce your speed, and move over when possible.” The spring and summer months provide perfect weather for highway work. Work zones include everything from major interstate widening projects to pothole patching and mowing. Motorists will encounter work zones across Tennessee in downtowns, along interstates, and in rural areas. Last year in Tennessee, 23 people died in work zone crashes, including workers, drivers, and passengers. TDOT launched the Work with Us – Move Over, Slow Down safety campaign to help bring awareness to the importance of safety in work zones. To learn more about the campaign, see the answers to many frequently asked questions about work zones, and take the Work with Us pledge, click on the Work with Us link below. Work zone safety messages will be displayed on TDOT’s overhead Dynamic Message Signs on interstates in Memphis, Nashville, Chattanooga, and Knoxville. Prominent buildings and bridges will be lighted in orange, and “Work with Us – Move Over, Slow Down” signs will be posted at work zones across the state, displaying this message at various locations statewide.
