Skills learned in West Tennes- with Ray Jones Send photos to: see have once again traveled to other parts of the country numberonecoach@hotmail.com or 731-694-8614 and is thriving. L’Ouverture Marable owner/trainer of Marable Racing has taken his talents to Springfield, Illinois where harness racing is king. He trains standardbred horses that race at Hawthrone Racetrack and Harrahs Hooiser Park. He has been riding and training horses since he was 2 years old. Over the years he has trained trail horses, quarter horses, walking horses and harness racing horses. He even does trick riding skills that amaze by standers. Often standing up on the horse back while riding, sitting backwards and even laying sideways while the horse is in motion. He says real cowboys separates themselves from casual riders by the skills they possess. I would say based on what I have seen that L’Ouverture is a real cowboy. As the story goes the Magic Cowboy rides again. PHOTO IS LOUVERTURE MARABLE TRAINING ONE OF HIS RACE HORSES.

CENTURY 21 AGENT HONORS BROWNSVILLE LINEMEN

Last week I had the privilege to honor our Linemen at Southwest Electric here in Brownsville TN. We are so thankful for all they do! I am thankful to work for a company that cares about the community I live in. Cont’d from page 1 Court documents say Megan Jordan, (r) 30, is charged with felony murder in perpetration of aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary. Jennifer Schuerenberg, (l) 30, of Jackson is also charged with felony murder in perpetration of aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary. Madison County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of shots fired around 1 a.m. Thursday on McKenzie Road in Whispering Pines RV Park, and a red Nissa Xterra leaving the area at a high rate of speed, according to court documents. Court documents say deputies located the Xterra, driven by Schuerenberg, at the intersection of Airways Boulevard and Highway 45 Bypass just before 1:15 a.m. Court documents say David Alan Wilcox was dead in the back seat of the vehicle. The women told investigators that they and two men went to the RV to buy marijuana, court documents say. Court documents say Schuerenberg brought the group to the RV to rob the RV owner of drugs and a gun. According to court documents, the owner of the RV was assaulted and robbed, and the owner of the RV shot Wilcox as the group ran from the area. The RV owner and other man allegedly involved in the incident have not been charged at this time.

The Federal government included 710 million dollars was included in the state budget to help needy families. According to Senator Jackson and Todd the state passed provisions for teachers to receive a 4% pay increase. State employees did

not receive a pay increase this budget year; The 20 million dollars earmarked for the development of the “Great Wolf Lodge” was put back into the state budget. Citizens 75 years or older will be given options to opt out of “jury duty” according to Madison County Circuit Court Clerk Kathy Blount. Madison County government also received two private acts ap-

proved by the General Assembly. There was also 100 million dollars approved for broad band development in Tennessee Regarding schools; An act was passed to remove obstructions from removing “disruptive students” by local school systems. require local restrictions. Law enforcement policies were upgraded to support agencies in training to increase their training; Senator Jackson and State Representative Todd also expressed their congratulations to former State Representative Jimmy Eldridge for his election to the state Election Commission and their gratitude for Jimmy Wallace many years of service.

“Overall it was a good year for Jackson and west Tennessee citizens and appropriations back to this area” said Todd who also stressed the importance of the Tennessee legislature approving the “Constitution Carry” law giving citizens the rights to carry their guns concealed nor non concealed with or without a permit starting July 1, 2021.

The Obstacle Is the Way In.

The Class of 2021 has been challenged like no other. They have been exposed to the impact and effects of the pandemic on their education. Hybrid learning, virtual, and on campus options have been made available to students at JMCSS this year. Teachers have been stressed and students have been overwhelmed at times throughout the school year. Despite of all this many students have stepped up and met the challenges successfully which will undoubtedly translate into career success. In my observations over the years; as a student and educator, I have found that students have essentially students have two major obstacles to overcome in order to succeed academically. First and foremost is distraction. Cell phones have the potential to be utilized as a learning tool, but for many they find Tik-Toc and YouTube to be much more interesting than anything the teachers may have to offer. Many students lack the patience to wait for a page to come up as they have become used to instant gratification from their service provider. The second obstacle to overcome is procrastination. Hybrid and virtual students have become quite adept at utilizing that to satisfy their teachers. Even at the end of the semester many students have not realized that teachers can track exactly how much time they spend on assigned work. We have all learned much this school year! Let us hope that this fall, students will once again be able to enjoy structure in their coursework, and teachers can get back to continuity in the classroom. I hope students take full advantage of the summer programs that will be offered and come into the coming school year ready to take advantage of what JMCSS has to offer. High expectations are not out of the question for the Class of 2022! There are many options and opportunities for student enrolled in JMCSS. Attend a graduation in person and witness for yourself what #Winning looks like! “With self-discipline, the average person can rise further than talent alone will take them, and the ordinary person can become extra-ordinary.” ~Daniel Walter Don Polley | Education contributor - Contact don@donpolley.com)

And Your Point is . . . A Worried Mind:

COVID-19 Wreaks Havoc on Men’s Health

By Caleigh Findley The onset of the pandemic in 2020 led to a substantial increase in mental health challenges. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported that symptoms of anxiety and depression had increased over three-fold in their August 2020 report. Roughly 40% of respondents to their mental health survey claimed at least one adverse mental health condition in the past month. Social isolation resulting from quarantine has caused unique mental health consequences for men. Some depressed men turn to substance abuse, and may continue to act out these dangerous behaviors for longer in the absence of their friends and family. Men are also almost four-times more likely to successfully commit suicide than women. Reports of the pandemic-induced mental health crises are alarming. This is particularly true for males— as an at-risk population that can see such dire consequences come from isolation. Moreover, the extent to which quarantine may impact certain populations of men disproportionately due to stigma, social and work environments, and lack of healthcare resources gives cause for concern.

How Are Men Vulnerable to Poor Health in a Pandemic?

The 2020 CDC mental health report further claimed an increase in substance use (13.3% of respondents) related to the pandemic. Unfortunately, but unsurprisingly, this came alongside reports of increased suicidality for males. The same report found that men ages 18-24, minorities, unpaid caregivers, and essential workers were more likely to have seriously considered suicide in the past month. Both Hispanic and Black respondents experienced increased substance use and suicidal ideation compared to non-Hispanic whites during quarantine. These findings point to negative mental health outcomes specific to the individual’s sex, race/ethnicity, and environment that petition for community-level interventions, according to the report.

Male Minorities Devastated by COVID-19 Anxiety

Jean Bonhomme, MD, MPH, founder of The National Black Men’s Health Network, believes we are fighting three separate pandemics. In an expert panel discussion convened by Men’s Health Network (MHN) and funded in-part by Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, Bonhomme explains that there is the clinical impact of COVID, the economic and interpersonal effects of social distancing, and the secondary impact of increased harmful coping mechanisms. Each of these aspects give rise to unique public health concerns, especially for vulnerable at-risk populations.

5-13 pgs.indd 9

Early safety procedures took away the social support networks that many people of color rely on for support. According to the CDC, African Americans are experiencing more than twice the number of COVID infections, higher hospitalization rates, and more COVID-related deaths than whites. The resulting financial and emotional stress to men and their families exacerbates the challenging circumstances already taking place. Long-term disruption of these services could spell continued mental health deterioration for male minorities.

Sobering Reasons for the Striking Pandemic Health Disparity

Experts believe that some individuals may experience COVID-related Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (CRPTSD) that could significantly hinder their return to pre-pandemic life. CRPTSD can include fear-induced aversion to workplaces and other public areas as a consequence of prolonged social isolation. While the country anxiously awaits a return to normality, communities need to prioritize access to emotional first-aid and access to mental health services. Mental health challenges during the pandemic present a challenge for improving access and use of mental health services. Importantly, research also suggests that men are less likely to utilize these services and receive appropriate treatment. This speaks to the larger issue of inadequate communication between men and the healthcare system. An issue for mental well-being certainly, but also a serious concern for physical health during the coronavirus. COVID-related deaths occur more often among men than women, despite a similar number of COVID-19 cases. One study revealed that morality rates for men age 65 and older are almost two times higher than for women. Even investigation of COVID-19 admissions saw a three-fold increase in ICU admissions for males, and a higher likelihood of death. The inequity in COVID-19 patient outcomes highlights a crucial fact— men live sicker. Hypertension, respiratory diseases, diabetes, heart disease, and substance use, among others, are more prevalent among men. All of these conditions arguably contribute to the physical and mental vulnerability of men to COVID-19. The underlying health disparity widens further with the inclusion of ethnicity. African American men are more likely to suffer from high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and lung cancer than their white counterparts. Men of color are facing unprecedented challenges to their emotional and physical health. They will undoubtedly need culturally competent support strategies from both their community and physicians to aid in pandemic recovery. 20-YEAR-OLD PUNCHES BOYFRIEND Poetic Expression IN FACE, SMASHES PHONE, YOUR WORDS ARE While out on bond for beating him up previously OUR WEAPONS 05/06/2021 - Jason Steen - scoopnashville.com 20-year-old Clarissa Blevins is charged with aggravated assault, vandalism, and violation of her bond conditions after the May 5th assault on the father of her child, during which he dropped their child with his new girlfriend in the vehicle, and she adulted by punching him in the face and smashing his phone. She was out on bond at the time of this incident for a prior assault when she ran him out of the house while beating him up, and smashed a cinder block through his windshield when he escaped to safety. Metro Nashville Police were patrolling E. Webster St. just after 7 p.m. on May 5th when they noticed a woman slapping a man, so they stopped to investigate. The victim stated he was dropping off their child, and she began assaulting him when she realized his new girlfriend was also in the vehicle with him. She punched him in the face multiple times, and threw his phone to the ground, destroying it. Clarissa Blevins (MNPD) At the time of her arrest, Clarissa Blevins was free on bond for a January arrest, when she was charged with domestic assault and vandalism when police say she assaulted the same baby daddy as he was doing his daily visit with the child after work, and she suddenly began smacking and scratching his face and beat him until he ran out of the house to his vehicle. She followed him outside and upon realizing he locked the car door she took a cinderblock, and as he was driving away, she smashed it through his windshield. Clarissa Blevins is free on a $10,000 bond for the new charges and a $3,000 bond for the first set of charges. When contacted for a comment, Blevins simply said: “my bd lil gay bitch ass sent me to jail but won’t fight”, and “I hope ya mama die”. She has multiple upcoming court dates.

FATHER ADMITS TO RAPING 14-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER, Texts her: “will you please keep this between us?” 05/10/2021- Jason Steen - scoopnashville.com A family traveled from Alabama to Nashville so a young daughter could undergo brain surgery at Vanderbilt Friday. Today, the father, 32-year-old Travis Wade McGraw, is jailed in lieu of a $275,000 bond after admitting to raping his other daughter in the hotel room where the family was staying, while her grandfather slept in the other bed just feet away. While she hid in the bathroom and Snapchat messaged a friend in Alabama, who called 911 for her, he threatened to shoot her if she didn’t open the door. Police recovered texts where he asked her to “keep this between us”, a handgun, and her clothing with his fluids on them. We’re including the full affidavit of this story below, you may view it in the images. There are graphic details of this crime included in the affidavit that are not included within the paragraphs of the story but will be in the affidavit image, in the interest of public records and full transparency of arrest warrants. Metro Nashville Police responded to a call on May 8th that a 14-year-old juvenile victim had been raped by her father. She was in town with her mother, father, and maternal grandfather, from Alabama, as her younger sister was having brain surgery at Vanderbilt. According to court documents, presented below, one of the hotel rooms rented by the family was being used by the victim, her father, and her grandfather. She was sleeping in the bed with her father, and at around 4 a.m. she recounts feeling her 32-year-old father’s hand move to the front of her body and digitally penetrated her using his finger while she pretended to be asleep.

Travis McGraw (MNPD)

She remembers that her father was wearing boxers and a t-shirt, with his penis exposed. She says he then placed her hand on his penis, and he ejaculated, getting on her clothes. She ran and hid in the bathroom, using Snapchat to message her friend in Alabama, who called 911 for her. She detailed the entire encounter, and over 60 images of the conversation were retrieved by police as evidence. Her father, Travis McGraw, texted her while she was in the bathroom, some of which included: “com back to bed”, “I’m sorry”, “I’ll make it right”, “Come back in here before he starts asking questions”, and one admission that read “will you please keep this between us?”. When the texts didn’t convince her to leave the bathroom, she says he stood at the bathroom door and whispered “Open the door or I’m going to shoot you”. In an interview with Travis McGraw, he first denied the allegations, but then admitted his daughter rarely ever lied, and if she said it happened, he did it. He also admitted to sending the texts recovered by police. Travis McGraw is charged with rape by force or coercion and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He remains jailed in lieu of a $275,000 bond. His other daughter’s surgery was completed without compli-

About the Author

West Tennessee Native, he was born to two lovely parents Thomas and Lucy Boykin in a small town named Humboldt, Tn. He graduated high school in 2004, and attend college at the University of Tennessee At Chattanooga, where he studied Business Marketing. It was then he found passion for the fashion industry. In 2006 I did my first photo shoot with photographer and now friend Erika Holmes of Elite photography. That photo shoot would forever change my life. After that I was signed to a high fashion designer as a Ralph Lauren Model. I then transferred colleges and moved to Atlanta, Ga to attend Bauder College of Fashion & Design were later graduated with my degree in Fashion Merchandising. Through fashion school I gained exposure by producing fashion shows, as well as wardrobe styling and it was then I would elevate to producing several fashion shows such as Oscar De La Renta 2008 fall winter show, along with Bronner Brothers Hair show as creative director/ stage coordinator. During Bronner brothers I had the pleasure to meet and style Bre from America’s Next top model, that landed me working with her for several years. Then I moved on and developed my own company Encore Entertainment Groups LLC. After starting my company, I began to produce fashions shows under EEG as well as trained models for the fashion industry under my company. Soon after experiencing success in life’s progression, he lost a very important piece of himself, his father. This is where his journey of battling depressions and mental health. Writing his book and leaning music is where he found his saving grace. Encore Entertainment Group, LLC, DBA DonVinnie Boykin, USA
