FIRST DEER THRILL

West Tennessee

OUTDOORS

As deer season was about to wind down a youth hunter decided to give with Ray Jones it Send photos to: one more chance. He got his first deer rifle for Christmas and was excitnumberonecoach@hotmail.com ed about getting his first deer. or 731-694-8614 After going several times with no luck his situation suddenly changed one day late in the season when this nice doe got in his cross fire. He held his cool long enough to zero in on a good sight and nail the doe. Then he cut loose with a big yell and was thrilled. Every hunter remembers their first deer and this one will be no different. Some things last only for a short while but the memory of the first deer last a lifetime. Some people are well into their years before they get the first deer but regardless of the age the excitement is the same. Whether it is deer hunting or something else the Great Outdoors of West Tennessee has something for you to enjoy. PHOTO IS JACKSON AND HIS FIRST DEER.

CORRECTION:

In last week’s story; ‘STOP THE STEAL’ RALLY HELD IN DOWNTOWJACKSON the caption under the photo read: “Photo of Trumpsters getting ready to storm the county clerk’s office in downtown Jackson during the riot in DC - Jonathan Nothern.” In fact, that was not the case. The people pictured in the photograh were involved in a ‘peaceful protest’ in support of Donald Trump on the lawn of the Madison County Courthouse. - CSE News Management

January 13, 2021 Tristan Fletcher (wbbjtv.com) UPDATE: Jackson police say a 17-year-old girl is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of 41-year-old Rita Farris. JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson Police Department says it is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Carruthers Drive on Tuesday. NAACP Branch Promotes “Dr Kings Dream”

Cont’d from page 3 His Words continue to inspire the people in West Tennessee as the Jackson Madison County NAACP branch held a day full of events honoring Dr King’s legacy. Monday January 18, a virtual celebration “Good Trouble, Necessary Trouble” ! Starting at 8:30 am a Virtual Health Forum “impact/implications of COVID -19 on people and communities of color” At 11:00 am at the Carl Perkins Civic Center an Afternoon Drive-In Rally featuring Rev William Watson, Senior Pastor of Historic First Baptist Church of Jackson; and also speaking was Mayor Scott Conger of the City of Jackson! Then at 3:00 pm a virtual mass meeting was held featuring Rev Earle Fisher, Pastor, Author Professor and community organizer; with live zoom meeting all hosted by the local NAACP In partnership with the Lane College Chapter of the NAACP, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and the City of Jackson . Surely Dr Kings words inspired us but it was his actions that led us forward. And just as Dr King led us in his time, it is up to us to those of us committed to dismantling racism, pushing for change, and advocating for justice to take action and lead in our time. It’s in that spirit we welcome new partners and people like you to join us and get active in your local NAACP branch. Together we have made unquestionably incredible progress. But it’s just as undeniable that much work remains to be done before we can say that Dr King’s dream has been fully realized. So as we commemorated Dr King, I encourage you to honor his legacy of action by taking action yourself as become a member of the NAACP to help expand our reach in the fight to make America more just. We welcome you and invite you to call us at 731-927-7004 or email at jmcnaacp@att.net.

It’s a Crime to Be Unhealthy! #1 of 10 Articles by Well Connected Communities Coalition UT-TSU Extension Madison County

During January you will hear such pleas as “Get your yearly ‘Wellness’ visit.” This is asking that you check your insurance for your no-cost assessment from a medical doctor. Insurance companies know this is beneficial as preventive measures for early detection of disease and disabilities. There are many times no cost to you unless additional tests are performed. If you have had Medicare Part B for longer than 12 months, you have this invitation. This wellness visit could tell you if you are or are not unhealthy. What if you have no medical insurance? Some medical providers offer services for individuals without health insurance. You must ask when making an appointment: Are bills based on income (a sliding scale)? Can I receive as much as a 90% discount by paying cash? Does this facility receive federal funds to assist with costs? Can I be prescribed generic medications to save costs? Can I see a list of medical codes used in my bill? Many errors add costs What type of facility is this – urgent vs. emergency vs. primary care? Do you accept uninsured patients? You want to get appropriate care with an appropriate bill. Emergency Room care is the most expensive type of care and should only be used when absolutely necessary. Federal Law requires you are given treatment by emergency care, but it is not FREE. Loss of life or limb should be reason for emergency care. Urgent care facilities require several hours of wait while primary care facilities may require weeks or even months to get into the next available appointment. Make phone calls to question whether facilities take uninsured patients. Don’t forget two other very useful clinics – Community Clinics such as: Christ Community Health Services: East Jackson 655 Lexington Avenue Jackson, TN 38301 Phone: 731.540.0330 Helping Hands of Tennessee Community Service 1408 N Highland Jackson, TN 38301 Phone: 731.736.4005 and On-Line Visits with doctors who are available 24/7. What is the Well Connected Communities Coalition? Well Connected Communities is an effort to cultivate wellness across the country. America’s Cooperative Extension System, Tennessee State University Cooperative Extension Program, in partnership with National 4-H Council, is equipping volunteer leaders to help their neighbors be healthier at every stage of life. With the support of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), the nation’s largest philanthropy dedicated solely to health, these communities are cultivating wellness and fostering a Culture of Health in America. Locally, we are a group of approximately 15 agencies and individuals interested in the betterment of health in residents of the East Jackson and Denmark Communities. JAMES CLYBURN SAYS

NAACP, ALPHAS HOST VIRTUAL KING DAY CELEBRATION

The JMC- NAACP and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity,Inc. presented a well received Virtual Celebration honoring Dr. King on Monday, January 18, 2021. The event featured tributes and recognitions to King who was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Fraternity members acknowledged that although King was a Fraternity Brother, his legacy and contributions are shared by all of the Divine Nine. Dr. Jerry Woods guided the event which featured: Welcome and Invocation by Dr.Martha Robinson and Elder Annette Graves respectively. Virtual attendees were then offered the “Balm in Gilead” rendition of Lift Every Voice and Sing. The Men of Alpha Phi Alpha appeared next on the program in this order: Fraternal Tribute to MLK, Steaven Joy, Vocal Selection, Cortez Williams, and Introduction of the Speaker by E.Byron Elam. The eloquent and impactful address was delivered by Rev.(Dr.) Earl Fisher of Memphis,TN. Dr. Fisher’s address entitled “Triumphant Testimony For The Untouchables” held many of us most attentive and focused. His address drove home numerous tributes to Dr. King in a unique and novel way. The address was followed with Remarks by JMC NAACP President, Harrell Carter and the membership appeal was extended graciously by Ameera Graves, Advisor of the Lane College Youth Chapter. The event ended with benediction and the charge to keep working and hoping for a better future. Harrell Carter, Dr. Jerry Woods, Amerria Graves and Rev. Earl Fisher

“SOMEBODY ON THE INSIDE”

RESPONSIBLE FOR LETTING RIOTERS IN CAPITOL

By Victor Omondi The U.S. Department of Justice believes that the violent insurrection at the Capitol Hill building was an inside job. Now, Rep. Jim Clyburn is also sharing in the same belief, emphasizing that it’s most likely that “somebody on the inside” aided the rioters. Speaking to CBSN anchor Lana Zak, Clyburn stated, “I do believe that something was going on. They knew where to go. I’ve been told … by some other Congresspeople that their staff are saying that they saw people being allowed into the building through side doors. Who opened those side doors for these protesters, or I call them these mobsters, to come into the building, not through the main entrance where magnetometers are but through side doors. Yes, somebody on the inside of those buildings was complicit in this.” The rioters, who’re supporters of President Trump, forced themselves into the building and disrupted the activities that were ongoing therein. They forced all the lawmakers, who were meeting at the building to count Electoral College votes, to evacuate. The FBI has already been dispatched by the Attorney General Jeffrey A. Rosen to investigate the insurrection on different fronts. According to Rollington, they need to “identify, locate and apprehend the seditionists; and to discover who, if anyone, contributed to the debacle from the inside.” The ease by which the rioters entered the building and located different offices within the maze that’s the building’s interior begs for questions, not only to the FBI but also to some Representatives. Clyburn suggested that one of the telltales is that the mob seemed to have known their way around. He said, “The office with my name on the door was not touched. But the office where I do most of my work in, they were on that floor and outside that door.” Other than Clyburn, Rep. Steven Horsford, D-Nevada, is said to have the same belief. On a call to his colleagues, he shared his conviction that the insurrection must have been “an inside job.” Sen. Nancy Pelosi’s office was among those that were vandalized by rioters despite being one of the hardest to locate. According to media reports, two high ranking officials and Capitol Chief Steven Sund resigned on Thursday, following the riots.

‘PATRIOT’ ASSAULTS MNPD OFFICER IN ELEVATOR AFTER PUBLIC INTOX ARREST 01/14/2021 - Jason Steen -www.scoopnashville.com

30-year-old Kristy Regis, (right) an aspiring social media influencer and self-described Trump Patriot, faces multiple charges after Metro says she repeatedly kicked the police officer who arrested her.

Metro Police responded to 803 Division Street at 10 p.m. Monday after they were alerted to an intoxicated female and male getting aggressive with security at the location. Officers made contact with Kristy Regis (booked as “Christi Doe”), who police say was acting erratically, running up and down the halls of the 8th floor, screaming, and refusing to listen to commands to lower her voice as she was causing a disturbance. Police noted she was intoxicated to care for herself, and the male she was with was too intoxicated to care for her in his current state. After several minutes of the continued disturbance, and her refusal to stop, they decided to place her into custody for public intoxication, at which time she tried to walk away and then went limp with her body weight. Officers eventually got her into custody and into the elevator, at which time they say she assaulted Officer Philip Claibourne, Jr., by kicking him in the right shin and knee multiple times. Kristy Regis recently, who calls herself ”PRESIDENT-ELECT KRISTY REGIST” on Instagram, recently posted photos of her in front of a Trump Flag, stating “If you’re not a patriot you can unfollow me” – after the insurrection in Washington D.C., a user commented “Still proud?” to which she replied “hell yeah”. Below are also photos of her Instagram profile, and of her story the night of her arrest: Kristy Regis (booked as Christi Doe) was arrested and charged with assault of an officer, public intoxication, and resisting arrest at 11:20 p.m. She was released on a $2100 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court in May, and is represented by Kyle Morris, a public defender.

Lane College is proud to announce the recent appointment of Lane Man Lamar Chapman as Northern Illinois University (NIU) interim Head Basketball Coach. Chapman’s coaching career began with a highly successful two-year stint at Muskegon Heights High of Muskegon Heights, his hometown, where he led the Tigers to a 42-9 record with Class C state semifinals and Class B state finals appearances, respectively. Affectionately nicknamed “Bird” or “Byrd,” Chapman guided Heights to a 21-5 record in 2001-02 and earned the Muskegon Chronicle all-area coach of the year honor. In 2002-03, the Tigers were 21-4 under Chapman and repeated as district and regional champions. Chapman came to NIU following nine seasons as an assistant coach at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York, and was promoted to Associate Head Coach at NIU before the 2019-20 season. In his nine seasons at Stony Brook, Chapman helped the Seawolves to four conference regular-season championships, the 2016 America East Tournament title, and seven postseason appearances, including Stony Brook’s first Division I NCAA Tournament appearance in 2016. During Chapman’s nine years at Stony Brook, the Seawolves had six 22-plus win seasons. Before his time at Stony Brook, Chapman spent the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Toledo. In his first season, Chapman helped the Rockets earn their first Mid-American Conference regular-season crown in 26 years as Toledo posted a 14-2 conference mark. Lamar Chapman is in his fourth season on the NIU men’s basketball staff in 2020-21, having been elevated to interim head coach on January 3, 2021. Chapman helped the Huskies capture a share of the MAC West Division title in 2019-20, as well as a top-four seed in the conference tournament, giving NIU a first-round tournament bye for the first time since 2006. The Huskies were on target for just their fifth postseason appearance in school history before the year was prematurely ended by the COVID-19 pandemic. Chapman received his bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education/Fitness from Lane College in 1993. He was a member of the Lane College Men’s Basketball Team and was named Athlete of the Year for Lane College in 1991 and 1992. Congratulations Coach Lamar Chapman!
