In order to contribute to strengthening the processes, methodologies and strategies employed by Belize for monitoring the MDGs, the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation and the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, taught two workshops from 25 to 29 November, for officials from various institutions, convened by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development and the Statistical Institute, with support from the Central Information Technology Office and the UNDP representation.
The National Institute of Information for Development of Nicaragua signed a MoU with the National Institute of Statistics and Geography of Mexico, it also presented a detailed description of the technical assistance required for the implementation of tools, processes and methodologies monitoring of indicators.
2013 Progress Report on MDGs in Mexico On 6 December 2013, the new image of the Information System on the MDGs and the Progress Report on MDGs in Mexico were presented. The head of the Secretariat of Social Development, Rosario Robles Berlanga, highlighted the contribution of the MDGs as a roadmap for national public policy in the quest to build a more just society and acknowledged the work done by the Specialized Technical Committee in preparing the reporting. www.objetivosdedesarrollodelmilenio.org.mx
Technical assistance to Costa Rica concludes The Ministry of National Planning and Economic Policy and the National Institute of Statistics and Census of Costa Rica have agreed strategies to strengthen interagency coordination for the development of future Progress Reports on MDG, and will implement a module on their own websites to inform about the advances.
Dominican Republic creates an information system on MDG The Dominican Information System on MDG began operation, It was developed by the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development and the National Bureau of Statistics. Upcoming Activities During the first quarter of 2014, the technical assistance workshops for Mesoamerican countries will conclude, giving particular atention to the requirements of Nicaragua, Guatemala, Belize and El Salvador. The Meeting of the Mesoamerican Network on MDGs will take place during the last week of March, in which operating guidelines will be defined in order to strengthen and ensure the continuity of this network, topics related to multidimensional poverty assessment and evaluation of development policies will be addressed; the countries involved on the project will share successful experiences and perspectives towards the integration of the development agenda post-2015. Moreover, South American countries will be invited to participate to extend the area of ??impact of the project.
The activities of the second quarter will focus on preparing the final report of the project and document good practices developed by each participating country. It is planned to hold the event of closure of the first phase of the project at the end of the first half of 2014. It is expected that holders of beneficiary institutions will present the impact achieved. A second phase of the project will seek to convey to the countries of South America experiences gained for monitoring the MDGs. The Latin American experts will analyze and discuss the proposals for the internation of the development agenda that will follow the ODMs, seeking to create a regional positioning to promote the shared points.
