PUBLIC BENEFIT There are exisAng clubs and groups in the area who with the general public would uAlise the faciliAes provided by this project. There are 350 pupils at the Mangawhai Beach School, 24 adults in the cycle club, 30 juniors registered to ride every Monday in term Ame and 20 registered children on the Bike Bus to the beach school. Mangawhai has a bike shop indicaAve that there are enough bike users in the area to warrant a shop and workshop. Mangawhai already boasts a well patronised walking weekend and has various walking groups such as the the ladies who call themselves the Walkitalkies. Mangawhai has a track building group led by our Trustee Gordon Hosking. Already some of the tracks they have built are now well patronised, for example, Tanekaha off King Road. Almost the enAre track offers water access and to proposed je[es.

THE LAND The land takes in the southwestern side of Molesworth Drive Bridge. It follows the Adal estuary to King Road Bridge, a distance of some 3kms. This land is crown land administered by NRC and KDC. The blue lines on the overhead show the widths typically around 30 metres. From a pracAcable perspecAve the track building provides the conduit for almost all the associated acAviAes proposed. Building this first allows the access necessary to move forward progressively as funding allows to add to the facility. Most of the topography for building the track is flat in nature.

6

THE FORESHORE The foreshore of this estuary environment is appealing. There are very established Pohutakawa, aaracAve rock formaAons and a Adal situaAon where there remains depth at low Ade.

7

STAGE ONE DEVELOP THE INITIAL FIRST STAGE OF THE WALKWAY

The land is predominantly flat but requires weed clearance typically gorse/blackberry/waale asparagus grass etc . THE CLEARANCE PROCESS AND THE FORMATION OF THE TRACK

sympatheAc to the naAve trees/vegetaAon which beauAfies this foreshore.

INSTALL AN ENTRY WAY TO A SERVICE CAR PARK

for both track building purposes and future parking (permission sought from current lease grazer)

THE TRACK RESEARCH

Ager researching other successful exisAng faciliAes (Orewa, for example) that work a minimum of two metres (excluding shoulders) is required to provide for safe use by both cyclists and walkers. EXPERIENCE

Gordon Hosking (Tracks Mangawhai) has considerable experience forming tracks in the district and already has arranged for the stockpiling of road seal sweepings for topping of these tracks.

10

FLOATING JETTIES THE FORESHORE OF THIS ESTUARY ENVIRONMENT IS APPEALING

There are very established Pohutakawa, aaracAve rock formaAons and a Adal situaAon where there remains depth at low Ade.

JETTIES

Therefore there are a number of situaAons beside the track where access to je[es would allow for recreaAonal interacAon of canoeing, kayaking, picnicking etc

11

ART TRAIL THE TRUST RECOGNIZES THAT MANGAWHAI IS VIEWED BY MANY AS A PLACE WHERE ART IN ITS MANY FORMS IS APPRECIATED

The yearly arts trail is one example of the vibrant support for this. The allowance for pockets of art on the track for sculptures can be incorporated.

12

STAGE TWO STAGE TWO INCORPORATES A LOOP THAT REQUIRES A WOODEN WALKWAY

of approx 150metres over exisAng mangrove/rush environment then tracks through to Cove Road.
