Warm Salad, My Brother Carlos’ Favorite

Summer is already here and this week we want to share with you a good and healthy Salad, my brother Carlos’ favorite. He is an athlete who loves sports; he eats very healthy food and takes good care of himself. This is a very complete salad and besides it is very tasty . We always want to take care of ourselves, now even more so and this recipe is a good way to start :-) Have a great summer week and we really hope you like our recipe!

by Pilar Ruiz Text/US measures collaborated w/ Glenn Ferguson You can find more of her recipes at comomegustacocinar.blogspot.com

INGREDIENTS: * 1 bag of assorted lettuce leaves * 1 avocado * Several cherry tomatoes * 5 slices (100 gr.) diced bacon * 3 1/2 oz. (100 gr.) peeled shrimp * 1 4 1/2 oz. (125 gr.) package imitation baby eels * 2 cloves of garlic * Sherry Cream Vinegar (Balsamic) * Extra virgin olive oil * Salt and pepper

PREPARATION: * We are going to start by placing the assorted lettuce leaves in a large salad bowl. * We will chop all the ingredients: the garlic, avocado, bacon, and shrimp, then quarter the tomatoes. * Add the chopped avocado and cherry tomatoes to the lettuce. * In a large frying pan or wok, we will add two tablespoons of olive oil and will begin to fry the garlic, then add the shrimp, the bacon bits and also add the imitation baby eels. * We fry everything until done and then pour this warm sauce on top of the lettuce leaves in the bowl and stir so that they bind together well. * We add now some drops of Modena Balsamic vinegar and some drops of olive oil and stir and also season. * And we’re ready to serve the salad at the table and eat while it is warm. And we promise that this salad will surprise you very much :-) Very tasty! My brother Carlos says that instead of adding cherry tomatoes we can use diced Tangerine segments and it is also very delicious. Happy 4th of July and don’t forget to enjoy!

Of Flags and Fireworks By A.M. Ávila

I

t´s the 4th of July weekend and everyone has their own memories relating to Independence Day. But, undoubtedly, they all contain images of American flags and of fireworks. The American flag is often referred to as: the Stars and Stripes; the Red, White and Blue; Old Glory; the Star-Spangled Banner; and, in the U.S. Navy, the Naval Ensign and our national Colors. It contains thirteen horizontal stripes alternating in red and white. In the upper left hand corner there are 50 white, five-pointed, stars, which alternate in rows of five and six per row, on a field of blue. Our current flag was officially adopted on July 4, 1960. The first American flag, which was the original 13-star version, was adopted on June 14, 1777. The 50 stars on the flag represent the 50 States of the United States of America. The 13 stripes represent the thirteen British colonies that declared their independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain and which later became the first States in the Union. The design of the flag has been officially modified 26 times since 1777. The 48-star flag was in use from 1912 to 1959. It was the official flag for 47 years until the 49-star version became official on July 4, 1959. The 50-star flag was ordered by President Eisenhower on August 21, 1959 and was adopted in July 1960. It is the longest-used version of the U.S. flag and has been in use for over 55 years. One arrangement features 13 five-pointed stars arranged in a circle, with the stars arranged pointing outwards from the circle (as opposed to up), the so-called Betsy Ross flag. This flag is usually a flag that is used for celebrations of anniversaries of the nation's birthday. Despite the 1777 resolution, the early years of American independence featured many different flags. Most were individually crafted rather than

mass-produced.While there are many examples of 13-star arrangements, some of those flags included blue stripes as well as red and white. John Paul Jones used a variety of 13-star flags on his U.S. Navy ships including the well-documented 1779 flags of the Serapis and the Alliance. The Serapis flag had three rows of eight-pointed stars with stripes that were red, white, and blue. The flag for the Alliance, however, had five rows of eight-pointed stars with 13 red and white stripes, and the white stripes were on the outer edges. On some U.S. military uniforms, flag patches are worn on the right shoulder, with the stars toward the front. This rule dates back to the Army's early history, when both mounted cavalry and infantry units would designate a standard bearer, who carried the Colors into battle. As he charged, his forward motion caused the flag to stream back. Since the Stars and Stripes are mounted with the stars closest to the pole, that section stayed to the right, while the stripes flew to the left. Several US military uniforms, such as flight suits worn by members of the United States Navy, have the flag patch on the left shoulder. The flag of the United States is one of the nation's most widely recognized symbols. Within the United States, flags are frequently displayed not only on public buildings but on private residences.Throughout the world the flag has been used in public discourse to refer to the United States. Although not part of the official Flag Code, according to military custom, flags should be folded into a triangular shape when not in use. In addition to flags, most Independence Day celebrations in the U.S. feature fireworks. Fireworks are a class of explosive pyrotechnic devices used for aesthetic, cultural, and religious purposes. A fireworks event is a display of the effects produced by firework devices. Fireworks

take many forms to produce the four primary effects: noise, light, smoke, and floating materials. They may be designed to burn with flames and sparks of many colors. Typically they are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, silver, and gold. Displays are common throughout the world and are the focal point of many cultural and religious celebrations. The earliest documentation of fireworks dates back to 7th century China, where they were invented. Important events and festivities such as Chinese New Year and the mid-Autumn festival are times when fireworks are guaranteed sights. In China, the art and science of firework making has developed into an independent profession, and pyro-technicians are respected for their knowledge of complex techniques in mounting firework displays. Chinese people originally believed that the fireworks could expel evil spirits and bring about luck and happiness. China is the largest manufacturer and exporter of fireworks in the world. Fireworks are generally classified either as a ground or an aerial firework. Aerial fireworks may provide their own propulsion, via skyrocket, or be shot out as an aerial shell by a mortar. The skyrocket is a common form of firework, although the first skyrockets were used in times of war for various purposes, one being the delivery of mail. The aerial shell is the backbone of today's commercial aerial display. There are also ground fireworks which, while less popular than aerial fireworks, can produce various shapes, like rotating circles, stars and 3D globes. Enthusiasts in the United States have formed clubs which unite hobbyists and professionals. The groups provide safety instruction and organize meetings and private "shoots" at remote premises where members shoot commercial fireworks as well as fire pieces of their own manufacture. Competitions are held among

members and between clu everything from single shells choreographed to music. Rotabeaters While imitation is the sincerest form of flat-

tery, it can also lead to major confusion and poor outcomes. Rotabeater is operated by one person named Ray who is a tall Bostonian. Rotabeater has a good reputation on base and that has lead to some non American competitors in Rota. They pretend that they are Rotabeater..The Rotabeater ad now has a picture of Ray and that should eliminate future confusion. If you bought a car thinking it was a Rotabeater and it was not please contact Ray at 653780296 and he will do what he can to help you get redress.
