A 150cm wide Polyester and viscose jacket weight cloth in black with millions of tiny nobbles shining proud as a base cloth, classy sort of stuff.

Frays happily and needs an experienced touch. £3.50 per metre

147cm wide black lightweight 50% polyester 50% viscose hopsack weave dress fabric nothing special just a good black cloth that has been made to imitate linen. It does a reasonably good job and it only creases slightly with a lot of heavy scrumpling. £4.50 per metre

✿✿A BIT OF A DO 140cm wide This is rather unusual in that it is somewhere between broderie anglaise and tulle lace. A soft woven and embroidered polyester fabric with a flat fabric solid lily leaf the leaves are very soft and have an almost suede like feel. I like it a lot.

Another superb viscose Lycra jersey fabric from France. This is a clever print made up of shades of mauve and aqua distressed roses on a black ground.

Definitely made for on the posh side of things. A rather beautiful cloth. On the label it says 'Canadian peachskin' it is not a peachskin in my mind but it is nice and soft. ✿✿BRUSHED COTTON 150cm wide 100% cotton checks that have probably been sanded rather than brushed so there is no positive nap just a softening of the cloth. The sanding rollers have been used but the effect is almost the same as being brushed. There are 3 designs as Follows; a) Billy - A very dark navy with a tramline triple line check in a pale’ish red and a pale blue. b) Jack - A fairly bright red with a window pane check pale blue and black. c) Max - A navy blue cloth with a different but still a window pane check in white and red and of course where all the colours cross each other there a little bit of variation in the colour of the check.

146cm wide textured chiffon. We had a job lot of cloth in, only an odd roll of each design from a mill in Korea. Amongst these were some gorgeous printed viscose and chiffon fabrics and this is one of them. Not a normal chiffon, there is a lovely hand to this which in part is helped by the textured weave cardire will have tried.

f) Caramel - 151cm wide very pretty pale caramel fabric. This is not a flat shiny chiffon, it has a crepe weave giving it texture and an elegant finish. h) Dusky Pink - This is a 145cm wide dusky pink polyester chiffon.

This is a flat chiffon i.e. there is no texture in the weave. k) Grey - 150cm wide nice quality mid grey chiffon fabric. This is not a flat shiny chiffon, it has a slight crepe weave which I think makes it look quite expensive. l) Turquoise - 149cm wide turquoise polyester chiffon fabric. 130cm wide this few rolls of lining arrived with all the suiting that we have got so in themselves they are not much but they might mean something when you want to align them to a cloth you’ve already bought. Following on there has been quite a bit of that this summer this is a cloth to go with the suiting Omerta. It’s a black poly viscose Austrian velvet jersey with a sprawling growing floral design or maybe not flowers perhaps all leaves. In tinges of autumn colours with the addition of a little blue and pale turquoise and rusty gold. Not exactly sure where this fits into the scheme of thing but what do I know I’ve only been in this game 50 years. It is certainly something you don’t see that often.

✿✿GIVE ME STRENGTH 150cm wide heavy cotton cloth with a ribbed, rope-like stripe at quarter inch intervals all down the cloth. It has been softened by a very light sanding; and so it is soft and it’s strong. I have a feeling that this could have been used as a lightweight furnishing, however you would never have had to sit on it. And certainly not in your overalls. But for a very outstanding summer jacket, this could be the one.

✿✿GRACE (PICTURE ON BACK COVER) 150cm wide 100% viscose dress fabrics not just any old cloth, this is a lovely quality viscose dress fabric, it has a very slight sheen which to me makes it look expensive. I don't know how they have done this. Not only that, the red is not printed, the fabric is yarn dyed - ie the fabric is woven using red yarns, the weft has the shine. The flowers are the printed firstly by discharge to bleach out there and then the blue is printed. Very classy!

144cm wide this polyester blouse cloth really does have the feel and appearance of a slightly firm silk, the design is totally abstract and comes in very muted shades of pink, silver, other greys and a bit of black and colour that might even be a dark khaki. It all melds into one fantastic overall appearance and will go with almost any colour of trouser or skirt that you might care to mention.

K ✿✿KIAWAH 150cm wide cotton twill cloth, with a sort of cross between desert storm and traditional army camouflage pattern. That is to say it is a similar pattern to normal, but the colours are subdued. Not dissimilar the cloth from which the captain of the Kiawah Island rider cup team wore a few years ago. And although, the US won on that particular occasion, the man himself made a right fool from himself, particularly so, because he was small enough to be used as a mascot. Very sturdy cloth indeed.

Depicting perhaps footprints perhaps the spots the coat of an animal in browns creams with the addition of I little bit of lilac and deep purple of a supremely clever cloth and very attention grabbing. Not dissimilar to blouses seen in Armani adverts this year.

✿✿REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL 150cm wide we have quite the best selection of woollens and wool mixture cloth we had them quite some time the all jacket/coat weight and a lot of them are locally made in Yorkshire there all around 150cm wide and if there is major deviation I shall tell you as we go along; c) A Royal Affair Grand – 100% grand wool in a typical Yorkshire sporting check tweed the loved of the hunting, shooting, fishing brigade.

Lots of lovely subtle colours in the quite large check. d) A Royal Affair Small – 100% wool in a small variation on the hacking check very defiantly one that would have pale blue, pink, forest green, sage green and blue are the basic colours of the check. e) Hacking – 100% wool in a fairly sombre affair in a small hacking jacket check in brown, taupe grey and beige Picture on back cover. f) Butros yarne – 100% wool in a rather splendid and quite sophisticated Italian wool coatings. Mainly black and red tweed with flex of white and that is very definitely a coat weight cloth. Picture on back cover.

g) Charles – 100% wool in a herringbone weave made up of many shades of brown with hints of mustard and a fine line over check in red and pale blue this you could make skirts and trousers on a very classy wool jacketing cloth. h) Chunky – Definitely not Yorkshire Italian wool jacketing cloth chunky ‘boucle’ weave cloth in shades of green deep turquoise blue black and cream. Scrumptious! Made from a mixture of 33% wool, 30% polyester, 28% acrylic and what in old fashioned terms would be nylon so it’s got lots of good things in it to help the wear and tear. The bulkiness and the type of weave that you got which I don’t think could have been achieved with purely woollen yarns. k) Melange – 140cm wide Italian tweed jacketing/coatings is made from 40% wool 50% cotton and 10% PA. Another great tweedy sort of cloth in a melange of black and white yarns with a very soft hand. Picture on back cover. l) The imposter – 140cm wide ‘boiled wool’ This actually made from 60% polyester and 40% wool whilst it has the appearance of a boiled wool I somehow doubt that it has actually been boiled it has been shrank because it would certainly be wider than this so it may have been boiled but it would be wrong for me to persuade you that that was the case. It has the appearance as I say of a boiled wool it in taupe and is quite beautiful. m) Angelo – 145cm wide quite substantial and a mosaic sort of pattern in pale grey darker grey pink and pale red all quite subdued and the colours meld into each other. It’s beautiful! And made from 70% polyester 30% wool. n) Doubletastic – 60% polyester 30%viscose and 4% elastane dark brown with a navy and oatmeal over-check. It says something on the babel now that is something I don’t understand? Substantial, heavy and is a Melton so it’s very smooth with a positive nap and has a fairly large quadruple line over check in oatmeal and another finer line over check in white with some of the background dark brown showing through and this is 150cm wide. o) Daddy of them all – this would appear to be the daddy of them all it’s almost 160cm wide pure wool and is plain pale grey tweed on the one side and twil weave denim colour on the other. Quite amazing!

✿✿WATERPROOF FABRICS 150cm wide please find enclosed a little section devoted to waterproof fabrics and when I say waterproof I mean as near waterproof as you can get. There all from the best maker of such cloth available but since there were all made for different purposes they are made off different things either coated or not it’s a case of maybe with different materials. So: a) Waterproof Ultra - Black 155cm wide black densely woven polyester waterproof jacketing with a subtle but still breathable coating. Superb jacketing fabric from Italy made for a top menswear designer you could make a jacket but this would be nice for jackets, garden furniture coverings and pet clothing. b) Waterproof Ultra - Coco 150cm wide polyester fabric in a dark brown well it would be dark brown if you’re looking at the back but if you’re looking at the front it is a dark tan. It has a waterproof coating so fine you cannot see it, it just made the reverse a darker coco colour. This is ultra-soft with a sanded finish.

Superb jacketing fabric from Italy made for a top menswear designer you could make a jacket but this would be nice for outdoor cushion covers.

Not a Heavy cloth. c) Waterproof Lightweight Canvas - Purple This is a strong but lightweight purple waterproof canvas fabric with a PVC coating. This is malleable enough to sew easily and would be useful for outside covers and bags. d) Waterproof Grey Canvas 155cm wide 100% polyester lightweight waterproof canvas in a middle sort of grey with a shiny coating on the back of the cloth. Made in Italy for a British house, intended for jackets but it has many uses a very strong cloth.

e) Waterproof - Orange 152cm wide lightweight proofed polyester waterproof fabric in a brilliant bright orange. Originally made for jackets but would be good in a dark room f) If You Throw Enough Water - Khaki 150cm wide rather splendid lightweight jacketing. This is a proofed polyester fabric from Italy made for a well-known British design house.

We have tested this and believe it to be waterproof however if you throw enough water for long enough it may penetrate. Fabulous cloth in a khaki, bargain at the price! g) If You Throw Enough Water - Blue/Black/Navy 150cm wide rather splendid lightweight jacketing. This is a proofed polyester fabric from Italy Made for a well-known British design house.

✿✿WHEN IN DOUBT – BLACK WATCH TARTAN This 150cm wide superfine cotton lawn is described as a black watch tartan, and whilst I might have to give a permit of doubt to the maker it is taking a little a bit of a liberty. The colours are as they ought to be in a black watch tartan, dark green and dark blue but the way in which they have been woven, very cleverly mixed, creates tones and shades which a straightforward black watch tartan wouldn’t have. It is fairly obviously went into some very expensive shirts, but I just had a thought that you might use this as an absolutely fabulous lining for something you would really like to show off.
