Issue 9 2010
Half Term I've lost mi scissors!! Been with me man and boy. Can't cut cloth with anything else. Only one pair I hear you say, well not really but they had grown used to my hand, attached you might say. A bit like a wart or a rheumatic thumb. I shall not rest------------. We have some new cloths as well as others you haven't yet bought. So do your best. We have accumulated a large amount of 1/4mtr to 1/2mtr bits of dozens of cloths, ideal for starters for a class. Give us a shout if you are interested. They won't be free but they will be cheap. Happy sewing
NV1 A Furnishing Off white/cream 60in wide polyester/dupion fabric which has been used in the making of blinds. It might make a shower curtain, but then it would need to be waterproof so perhaps we should rule that out. It has an inbuilt slight stiffness and I am sure it will make great conservatory blinds. £2.50 per mtr. NV2 A Little Less for Your Money This is a 45in wide, and therefore not newly made, nice chunky 6 wale corduroy, 100% cotton. It comes in a delicious shade of pale lavender/ blue and is £3.50 per mtr.
NV6 Aphrodite Caroline went on a Hen do to Benaldmadena, this modern trend for stag and hen parties abroad seems daft to me. However not only did they travel far but also they had to have pop star fancy dress for one of the nights. Caroline chose Kylie Minogue and the white outfit she made reminds me of Aphrodite. It is a very pure white 60in wide nylon lycra fabric, not see through except perhaps when wet but I'm not allowed to even think about things like that. We only have a few metres so if you fancy yourself as a Greek goddess, do buy some. £6.00 per mtr. NV7 A Little Something for the Weekend
NV3 Always Look on the Bright Side A couple of sample rolls of a poly/wool bold check fabric. I don't want to use the word tartan but it is that sort of check. a) Red, yellow and black. b) Turquoise, navy, red. Each of the coloured yarns crisscrosses and they are then overlaid by a big white square over check. They are bold. They will make wonderful blankets for your trips out in the horseless carriage in the coming winter or failing that something to wrap up in when the power goes off. You don't need to restrict yourself, make a cape, skirt or trousers. All to be admired. £6.00 per mtr. NV4 A cloth for all seasons 60in wide, polyester, lightweight suiting in a grey marl, the overall effect being pale grey with surface interest which is part of the weave. A good weight, it drapes well and because it's polyester, can be chucked in the washing machine, tumbled dried and whatever else. I personally wouldn't put it in a tumble dryer but what do I know? £3.50 per mtr.
54in wide cotton/lycra shirting in a stripe design, indeed it is quite a bold stripe incorporating the colours pink, turquoise, green, purple and other shades of greens and pinks thrown in. The weave is an intricate rope stitch design, there is a lot going on in the fabric and in addition it stretches. Something I'm sure you will want to get your teeth into. Caroline does not like it particularly, she thinks I'm mad but you have been in touch with my mad side before haven't you. Super cloth beautifully made. £4.25 per mtr.
NV8 A Suiting 60in wide poly/wool suiting, originally made for a famous high street store The cloth did at one time have a contrasting cloth to go with it but not any more. A fine half inch sort of herringbone weave, without actually having the herringbone. It has different patterns which look herringbone-ish from afar but not close to. It comes in a colour that might be described as pale mauve. It's on its own and needs a new home. A very nice cloth beautifully woven. £4.00 per mtr.
NV9 A Fit of Pique 60 inch wide white poly/cotton NV5 A bit one sided 20cm wide self- adhesive Velcro, but only the hook side. Why this should be left when all the looped side has gone heaven only knows. Anyway there you go. If you can find a use for it let me know. 100mtrs white, there is also a small amount of black and beige. 25p per mtr.
woven pique, not used a great deal these days it has to be said, but nonetheless a lovely fabric to wear, it has a beautiful hand is very light and very wearable. £3.00 per mtr.

NV10 Aquarius a) 60in wide, cotton lycra stretch, baby towelling in the palest green imaginable. £5.00 per mtr. b) 60in wide polyester polar fleece in pale green. £6.00 per mtr. These go together, they don't match in colour exactly but they are as near as damn it. c) Small amount of blue exactly as a)
NV18 Battleship 60in wide polyester, finely woven with a synthetic rubber coating, completely waterproof. I can't believe it's entirely breathable; however it is in a fulsome battleship grey colour. £5.00 per mtr. NV19 Backs to the wall 64in wide 100% cotton looped back track suiting in navy. Substantial, but not too heavy and as rare as hen's teeth. Make the most of the odd 100mtrs that we have. £5.00 per mtr.
NV11 Ahoy There 60in wide 1in wide white/ coloured striped twill on identical cloth to that in item 'Chef'. a) Emerald Green and White and b) Red and White They are both very striking fabrics and are £4.50 per mtr.
NV20 Back to school Hard wearing serviceable fabric, fairly ordinary but having said that very well made. 60% polyester 40% viscose in a dull navy blue. 60in wide: £3.50 per mtr.
NV12 Ace of Spades 54in wide black polyester
NV21 Braveheart Stretch 68 inch wide cotton/
chiffon £3.00 per mtr.
Lycra lightweight red tartan sweatshirting. I did think at the time it was a T-shirting but it certainly isn't that, it is much too heavy for that obviously. Will make hoodies and garments of that ilk. It is two-way stretch and I am certain it will be exceptionally hard wearing. I don't know why that should be an added advantage but depending on the application it may well be: £4.00 per mtr.
Dear Croft Millers We always love hearing your stories about what you are making with our fabrics. Please keep letting us know and please don't forget to let us know if you don't mind sharing your stories or pictures as we would love to post them on the website. Many Thanks, Caroline.
NV13 Bleu 60in wide, fine cotton / lycra, in navy blue with a reasonably sparse, tiny floral spray design in white. In between the sprays are tiny little circles all in white. French cloth made for an abundance of little girls garments. £4.50 per mtr. NV14 Brief Stretch 54in wide, cotton/ lycra lightweight denim. We thought we would not have anymore of this cloth but an odd 50mtrs has turned up from where we always got it. It will definitely be the last. A fairly traditional denim blue and a lovely cloth. £4.50 per mtr.
NV15 Black Satin 58in wide (145cm) luxurious black polyester satin. Ideal for those nights in with your crisp and stout: £4.50 per mtr. PS could use this with Item 'The Black Spot'. NV16 Bakers Dozen II 60in wide warm white, I am advised, not cream, it's a very soft off white (no doubt one of the shades of white that Dulux make) plain weave, not twill weave, cotton with a touch of lycra and a lightly brushed back. A substantial fabric. £3.00 per mtr. NV17 Baby towelling 60in wide fine polyester baby velour towelling in a) White b) Cream Beautiful babygro type garments will surely be the result of your endeavours with this fabric. Both £5.00 per mtr. 2
NV22 Black Wool Jacketing 60in wide black 100% lambswool soft twill weave jacketing from Magee: £10.00 per mtr. NV23 Broderie Anglaise Traditional 3 hole design Broderie Anglaise in white or cream. 45in wide. £3.50 per mtr. NV24 Cavalry Twill 60in wide pure new wool cavalry twill suiting, in clerical grey, with the made in England woven selvedge. Caroline was going to make a big fuss of that, along with the other woollens, which were also made in England because they are all totally wonderful. £12.50 per mtr. NV25 Cotton Interfacing 60in wide, heavy, iron on cotton interfacing in light beige. The sort of thing that could possibly be used in furnishing, as well as in heavier garments. Another one of these cloths that comes along once in a blue moon. £3.00 per mtr. NV26 Chambrayson 60in wide poly/cotton fine shirting in slate blue, which is made up of darker blue yarns in one direction and very pale blue yarns in the other, almost like a chambray, hence the title. A lovely hand. £2.50 per mtr. NV27 Chambray 60in wide cotton rich poly/cotton chambray in either a) Aquamarine b) Pale Beige It is of a weight which is sufficient to make trousers and skirts from but of course it will make quite heavy shirts too. I have a notion that this is a fabric that was woven not too many miles from here in a mill that I used to have an association with called Broughton's, if that's the case it's a treat because it no longer exists. I'm sure you know but I will mention it anyway;
T:01282 859281 email: info@croftmill.co.uk website: www.croftmill.co.uk
Chambrays are made up of a coloured warp and a white weft so each of the colours are described are not entirely plain or flat. A superior cloth. £4.50 per mtr.
NV28 Corduroy Fine lightweight corduroy in a very dark brown, in a very very fine cord indeed: 60in wide £4.50 per mtr. NV29 Cotton Lawns Three new cotton lawns to keep you abreast of, a) I’ve come Over - 54in wide beige/ very pale beige, shadow weave stripe, lawn. £2.90 per mtr. b) Cream lawn - 58in wide not as fine as the previous one, but still very fine. £4.00 per mtr. c) Black Lawn - 58in wide. The same quality as the cream, but with a finish on it. I am not exactly certain what the finish is all about but it makes it glisten a little bit. Beautiful cloth, this too is £4.00 per mtr. NV30 Chocolat For some unknown reason this cloth reminds me of France, not the strife ridden troubled France of recent times but the France of the film bearing the title name. Perhaps it reminds me of Juliet Binoche or more specifically of the actress who played her daughter. It is 54in wide fine cotton needlecord in black with an all over floral print in mushroom, into the petals of which have been sewn sequins. Some in 2's some in 3's and some individual. A lovely looking cloth, beautifully soft. £5.00 per mtr. NV31 Chintz 48in wide, black dress fabric with an all over medium to large floral design in pink, mustard and green. The cloth then has been calendared, which means it's squeezed between rollers and has a fluid passed along the roller to give a semi shiny chintz finish. £4.50 per mtr.
Samples Please send us the reference number and name of the fabric you want plus the following depending on your requirements. a) 1 - 5 items, Free. Please email us your request along with your address details to info@croftmill.co.uk or alternatively post your request and please include a SAE. b) 6 - 10 items £2.50 plus SAE (Non refundable) c) 11 - 25 items £5.00 plus SAE (Non refundable) You can also view all of our fabrics at www.croftmill.co.uk
about 1/4in wide and 1 extremely fine. Not an easy cloth to weave and the reason it's only 50in wide is that the lycra is in the weft, which has pulled it in, it won't pull out again. The width is what it is, but instead of being a perfectly flat cloth it has a bit of a ripple effect. Beautifully made. £3.50 per mtr.
NV33 Chef 60in wide poly/cotton twill in a 1 inch square check in the following colours: a) Red and white b) Blue and White. This is probably of the 6/7 ounce weight which is trouser/apron/jacketing weight: £4.00 per mtr. NV34 Corduroy 60in wide, 6 wale, medium weight soft cotton corduroy in navy blue £4.50 per mtr.
NV35 Christmas Fabrics I know that you don't want to be reminded of dark nights and the attendant winter scenario but you will have to get a grip. Think of all the good things. 54in wide cotton Christmas designs. a) Red Holly - Red ground with green holly leaves mid scale. b) Green Holly - Green ground with darker green holly leaves with red berries and cream flowers - mid scale. c) Cream Holly - Cream ground with green holly and red berries mid scale. d) Father Christmas - Green with red Father Christmases. He is a good size and 9cm tall. e) Stars - Red with gold stars. Quite a large design. f) Tartan - Green Ground with red/brown and Gold tartan Check All £5.50 per mtr. NV36 Cotton Jersey Years ago you could fall over this cloth there was so much of it produced and probably still is, but not in this country as a result of which you got T-shirts that were never in shape primarily because of the making up but also because the cloth was rubbish. We have managed to get hold of some very nice quality cotton jersey in varying weights and widths. a) Very pale pink 64in wide. b) Bright Pink 65in wide. c) Marine Blue 60in wide d) Aqua almost 70in wide. e) Pinky/ rusty almost 70in wide. f) White almost 70in wide. g) Black 60in wide. All 100% fine cotton: £4.50 per mtr.
NV37 Canvas 60in wide light wine coloured, heavy cotton canvas, outdoor type fabric. One of those cloths that will improve with age, a bit like I did. £4.00 per mtr.
NV38 Dress satin NV32 Correction 50in wide, the reason for that I will explain later. This is 89% cotton 2% lycra shirting in bright baby pink. We have had this cloth before but I obviously made a bit of a mess telling you about it. It has at ½ inch intervals down the cloth a series of alternating woven satin stripes, 1 thicker,
a) Some Like it Hot - A 54in wide mushroom or even light mushroom coloured polyester satin with a not quite distressed finish, perhaps worried finish would be a better description. It lends itself to dresses I have seen on T.V. lately in both loose and tight figure hugging styles. Quite different in my book. £4.50 per mtr.

b) Come Up and See Me Sometime - 60in wide dark Brown, cotton/ lycra satin. Dull finish, fairly heavy due to the denseness of the weave. If brown is in vogue you are in luck if it isn't, be different. £4.50 per mtr.
NV39 Dressing Gown 60in wide rich navy blue 98% cotton, 2% lycra towelling. Ideal for the making of dressing gowns. Can't say fairer than that. £4.00 per mtr.

NV40 Depardieu A wonderful 60in wide, mercerised cotton knitted jersey in navy blue with a fine white horizontal stripe at 1/2in intervals, onions and berets come to mind as well as the heavy joweled French actor. More likely to have gone into children's articles where the number of stripes and the effects on the eyes is lessened, hence the soft hand and good quality. £4.50 per mtr. NV41 Down Sizing 45in wide, stone coloured poly/ cotton/ lycra lightweight suiting with a bit of an orange peely finish made to use in lightweight travel/ safari type clothing. It has an element of water repellence about it and because of its width is only £2.50 per mtr. NV42 Dress velvet 60in wide 100% cotton very fine dress velvet with a silky sheen finish, the colour of which is a very expensive looking gold £5.00 per mtr.

NV43 Dyeing for my art Viscose 57in wide viscose dress fabrics in a nice drapey weight that won't crease easily. Very comfy to wear. a) Blue - much more ordered and neater than Cy Twombly's work but nevertheless an abstract splodgy type floral print design on a white ground. The flowers are in blue and turquoise and mauve and lilac roughly outlined in dark navy with green leaves. Very nice. b) Red - as above but the flowers are red and pink or brown and creamy gold outlined in a dark brown with sage leaves. Red pink and pale orange and cream flowers outlined in dark beige on a black ground. c) Dark Brown - Red/pink and pale orange/cream flowers outlined in dark beige on a dark brown ground. All £4.50 per mtr. NV44 Diddly Um Tie Dye 60in wide, tie-dyed cotton cloth in an Emerald/ lighter emerald green blotch design. A lovely cloth, one to tuck away for next summer perhaps. £4.00 per mtr. NV45 Ellen Scrumptious 45in wide fine cotton poplin. This is a striped pattern with a 1/8th inch coloured stripe and ¼ inch cream stripe. In the cream stripe there are tiny little roses every ¼ inch running up the stripe. This comes in 2 colourways a) Black and Cream - the Roses are red and pink and green b) Green and Cream - the Roses are pink and green £5.00 per mtr. NV46 Fancy Linings In our last catalogue we had a couple of tailors' linings as they were described, these are not exactly the same, the weave is somewhat different but the principle is the same. a) Very Dark Brown with mulberry hint with and all over paisley pattern. b) Cream with a very fine purple pinstripe at 1/4in intervals c) Shot peppercorn it says on the label but to you and me ginger with a light ginger weft to create the shot effect. d) Lime, which is made up of pale green and a ginger weft. There is only a bolt of each comprising of about 40 metres. All £3.50 per mtr. NV47 Finery Two extremely fine cotton fabrics which are both 100% cotton. a) 56in wide Voile - off white not pure white but it is not cream. b) 60in wide Pink Lawn - almost as fine as the voile but more yarn in it and this is in very pale pink. Both £4.00 per mtr.
NV48 Finest Quality White Shirting 60in white finest quality poly/cotton shirting. £3.50 per mtr.
NV49 Flannel Wine / burgundy coloured brushed cotton cloth with an over check in blue, yellow, and very dark blue. The colours are interwoven so you don't get any flat bits of colour. It has a soft finish and is not too heavy. £4.00 per mtr.

NV50 From the Sublime ----- 60in wide polyester bistretch trousering, which just means two ways, not overly stretchy, but it gives in both warp and weft directions. We only have it in one colour if it proves popular we will have a look at others. The colour you would have to say is school grey: £2.00 per mtr. NV51 Giorgio Some of you may well remember me talking about a chap we have had a business association with for long time who to overcome some of his physical challenges loves to wear big time designer label clothing. Once he appeared in a mauve linen suit, which was obviously made for someone taller than him, but it must have been a bargain. Anyway he introduced us to this lovely 60% linen 40% cotton, fine twill suiting, and if you like linen you will certainly like this. 54in wide £5.00 per mtr.
NV52 Green Gables Grandpa shirting, 56in wide 100% cotton with 1/4in wide woven stripe, pale blue and cream with soft finish. £3.75 per mtr.
NV53 Grab your Coat and Grab your Hat 60in wide, wool worsted with polyester and elastane suiting in charcoal grey with a fine pinstripe in a much paler grey at 1/2in intervals. A beautiful men's suiting cloth: £6.00 per mtr.
NV54 Green Pea Fleece Whilst very fine this is actually a double fleece with a windproof waterproof membrane in between the two layers. I can remember having this fabric or one very similar back in the old Croft Mill days, which sold exceptionally well and was the forerunner of fleeces, which repelled the weather. To give you some idea of the weight it is two micro fleeces bonded together by the membrane so the overall weight might be 300grms. The rolls are quite heavy having said that, if you get on with the colour it's a bit of a bargain, 60in wide: £7.00 per mtr.
NV55 Gingham 1/4in corded edged gingham 45in wide, poly/cotton a) Red, b) Green, c) Lilac, d) Yellow, e) Dark Blue, f) Black, g) Brown. £3.00 per mtr. NV56 1 Inch Gingham 1” corded edged gingham 45in wide, poly/cotton a) Emerald Green, b) Pale Blue, c) Dark Blue, d) Red. £3.00 per mtr. NV57 Gold Barbour 60in wide heavily waxed, heavy cotton Barbour cloth in Gold/ Mustard. I find this cloth a pain. It marks easily, although marks are part of the nature and charm of the fabric. You can warm it up and it becomes more malleable and perhaps even some of the marks disappear, they will come back again as soon as you move in it. Makes the sort of coats that, when you sit down you sit but the coat doesn't. However it wouldn't be so dammed expensive if people didn't like it and you can enjoy a very expensive coat for around £20 from here. £6.50 per mtr. NV58 Hound-Dog After a day or two of nice autumn weather we are faced with darkness, even though it's only 10.30 in the morning, and its lights on. I will probably have to
go outside to get a proper perspective on some of these cloths, not however with these first ones. a) 60in wide ¼ in hounds tooth check in black and white the cloth is wool/ polyester suiting, 60% wool 40% polyester and has a fine boucle weave. We knew you were going to like this so to go with it we have another boucle. b) 60% wool 40% polyester in burgundy/ wine with lighter tones and black flecks, the boucle effect lifted in grey. Both fabrics from Magee, and superbly made. £6.00 per mtr.
NV59 Is it I? For some little time now I have tried to persuade you of the benefits of this wonderful furnishing fabric but obviously failed. It seems to be an all or nothing cloth, you don't want a metre of it you want 10 or 20 or whatever. The yarns in it are, brown, light mustard and an odd bit of blue, all of which combine to give the brown and dark mustard colour. It is a sort of 1in square check, i.e. the mustard is the main body of the colour and the brown is woven into lines in either direction forming a square. Strong and hard wearing cotton, viscose and polyester. Apparently made for the refurbishment of a hotel chain and we have the remains. It will cover many sins and could therefore be a favourite with students. Nearly all Gone: £3.50 per mtr. NV60 If You Go Down To The Woods Today… A very pretty navy blue brushed cotton with an all over but not too densely printed old Steiff like teddy bear in various poses and not with food but with posies. The teddies are teddy bear coloured and the flowers have some elements of the teddy bear colour with green, red and pale blue amongst it. Can't see the boys getting too excited. £4.50 per mtr.
NV61 In The Mood Whilst on the cusp of things extraordinary I will tell you about this rather different, burnt mottled orange polyester lace. If the design was straight up and down it would be a stripe but this is in squiggles about 2in or 5cm wide which are joined together by intricate strands of lace. These small gaps in the squiggles are therefore pretty much see through but there is not enough to make it brazen. There were other colours but we chose this one as being more appropriate to mix and match with other fabrics. It looks delicate but it is quite robust. £4.00 per mtr.
NV62 I am undone We have had for some time now a cotton voile, wonderful in my opinion, as fine as can be, 60in wide in a fairly vivid but dark orange with an all over chequered print in white and yellow. In the squares formed by the white and yellow are irregular but quite small burgundy dots and indeed not all the little squares have a dot in them. The cloth is soft and drapey and has a beautiful hand. £4.00 per mtr. NV63 John Wayne 60in wide, robust cotton cavalry twills in: a) Pea green. b) Burgundy. These have a light brushed finish, if anything, the burgundy is slightly heavier than the green and apart from the colour they will do everything the US cavalry could. £5.00 per mtr.

NV64 Lace Soft pink “body” lingerie, stretch lace 56in wide. £3.50 per mtr. NV65 London Fog I know that in Sherlock's Day fog was a prerequisite in the plot and now is generally a thing of the past. Speaking of which, I invite you to consider this rather excellent 68in wide linen cotton slub weave canvas in soft white. That sounds a bit like someone I once knew in a previous life. Suffice to say it was woven and finished in Ireland. Fairly substantial: £6.00 per mtr.
Bags Our paper bags - that is to say the paper bags in which we pack our cloth - have caused some people anxiety because of what it says on the outside. When they come to us they are brand new bags that have not been used by the people who should have used them in the first place.
NV66 Leatherette 60 inch wide superior leather faux furnishing in a dark brown. £7.50 per mtr. NV67 Lap up warm A north of England expression, maybe said in the south as well, when the air got chilly and a fear of draughts set in. A cloth to gird your loins if the winter that befalls us is as bad as last year or indeed as earlier this year. A rather nice, quite heavy coating, bluey/green, woven twill 20% -30% wool 40% polyester 30% acrylic. Reasonable hand and not too expensive. £5.00 per mtr.
NV68 Moleskin 100% Cotton moleskin 60in wide: a) Dark brown. b) Dark navy. c) Mid brown. All very mouthwatering at £4.75 per mtr.
NV72 Mexican Wave This is a 56in wide cotton velvet. Ok so now comes the difficult bit in describing it to you. The colours and the pattern are all contained within the one fabric, the back of which is actually grey but the front i.e. the velvet side has got dark greens, a very pale greeny gold and a bit of brown with an overall appearance of a dark/rich fabric. This all looks like the beach when the sea has been in and done its bit but not the flat bit, the bit that ripples. The ripples aren't straight up and down or across they are diagonal and they come in bands of 3 or 4 and are about 2 inches wide. I know you're thinking he is making a bit of a mess of this and in truth I probably am but this new machine isn't helping because I have panicked a little bit. It's certainly either for skirts, jackets or perhaps for a waistcoat. The cloth is of an outstanding variety. I think its hundred percent cotton, there may be little bit of viscose in there and it has a slight sheen to the finish to add to all its other glories; this is £8.50 per mtr. NV73 Mrs Overall I know you will remember that wonderful character from Acorn Antiques who as a waitress, immaculately dressed in black and white, when serving soup spilt most of it. This cloth would not be of much use for waitresses, it's too silky for that. It does have a name, which at the moment I can't quite get that computer in my head to find. No doubt as I go through life's toils it will come back to me. We did have it some years ago in the old Croft Mill. It is 60in wide softly finished lightweight suiting in white 100% polyester, a soft silky hand. £3.00 per mtr. NV74 Mix and Match Two 60in wide polyester corduroy fabrics, which have been finely pleated on purpose and not by accident. a) Plain Black. b) Black with a tiny embroidered floral design running in thin strips down the length of the fabric. Quite why you would want to mix and match when you can hardly tell one is embroidered and the other isn't, only a woman would know. The embroidered one would usually cost more to make. They feel, I promise you, like soft cotton velveteen. Take your pick, both £3.75 per mtr.
different colours a) A pale applely green. b) A cross between a very dark turquoise and kingfisher blue, sensational. Both £5.50 per mtr.
NV75 Melt in The Mouth - Suiting A wonderful, if there ever can be such a term used for beige. This would be described in a gentleman's brochure as tropical weight i.e. not very heavy and suited to warmer climes but don't let that put you off. This cloth will look pretty exceptional anywhere. 60% wool 40% polyester. 60in wide: £7.00 per mtr.
NV70 Melton 60in wide, very dark navy blue, pure wool Melton lightweight coating, of immense quality £12.50 per mtr.
NV76 Norma Desmond 56in wide soft polyester
NV69 More Moleskin 60in wide, cotton moleskin in
NV71 Melange 60in wide, lightweight skirt / jacket, but not suit, fabric in a very fine, slight boucle weave poly/wool/ viscose mix. The weave pattern looks like the effect you get when you lose the picture on your television but not moving of course. It is made up of grey, brown and maybe beige and offwhite yarns. There is more interest in the weave than you can shake a stick at, a very soft hand and an expensive cloth when made. £5.50 per mtr. 6
satin in a black/cream abstract floral design. Drape yourself over the chaise longue £5.00 per mtr
NV77 Nearly linen 60in plus wide, 35% lyocell, 30% linen, 25% polyester and 10% cotton fabric, with interest in the weave, quite heavy suiting weight, hangs beautifully in a Dark Navy blue. £4.50 per mtr.
NV78 One suit You may recall last summer we had two suits one of which was a cream/ light mustardy colour and the

other was lilac. The cream/ mustard has entirely gone, but we still have the lilac and who knows if lilac will be next season's colour and even if it isn't why should we worry. I have a pair of lilac golf shorts, which were carefully altered, by my wife, from a pair of Ralph Lauren trousers, which were cut to suit the American waist and buttocks, or as Forest Gump would say butocks. I happen to think the colour is delightful and the cloth itself is fabulous. It is poly/cotton 55/45, 60in wide and as an inducement it is £3.00 per mtr.
is for you. Another waterproof fabric that doesn't come along that often. £4.00 per mtr.
NV84 Peaches Notwithstanding the fact that some little girls are called Peaches or even perhaps because they are, I thought this cloth would be suitable for them. It is 58in wide cotton/lycra denim in a rich bright peachy pink. If I didn't already own trousers in bright colours this might be a welcome addition to my wardrobe, only for golf you understand. A nice soft finish which will withstand many washes. £4.00 per mtr.
NV79 Pretty Prints 45in wide, 80% poly/cotton fine poplin in the following patterns: £2.75 per mtr. a) Lilac Floral Spray - Tiny lilac floral spray with green leaves on a cream ground. b) Blue Floral Spray - Tiny mid blue floral spray with green leaves on a cream ground c) Bright Pink Rose - Small pink abstract roses with blue flowers, green leaves and red highlights on a white ground. d) Funky Red - funky large retro red floral on a white ground. e) Funky Navy - funky large retro navy floral on a white ground.
NV80 Poplin Prints. 45in wide, poplin upon which have been printed pleasant and beautiful designs. a) Tiny Rose - An off white/cream background with an all over but sparsely printed blue and green floral rose design. b) Penelope - A quite bright but soft pink with a tiny all over floral design in pink, very dark burgundy, bright yellow and green. Extremely pretty, lovely for little girls. c) Pollyanna Black - A black background with a tiny all over print in white. d) Navy Rose - A dark navy background with a tiny all over print in pink, green and lemon. e) Pretty Pinstripe - Cream ground with triple green pinstripe in between which are tiny flowers in pink and blue. f) Say it with flowers - Slate Green ground with similar rose floral print in pink dark red cream, pale orange and dark green. Traditional. g) Say it with flowers - Navy ground with medium floral print in pink cream gold and green. h) Pretty Polka - Polka dot print in pink, lemon, pale blue, white on a brown ground. i) Libby - Navy ground with an all over small floral print in pink, yellow, pale blue and pale green. j) Flora - Pale green ground with all over small floral print in pink cerise, pale blue and dark green. Very Pretty. Beautifully woven and a lovely hand. £5.50 per mtr. NV81 Percale 96in wide, white cotton rich poly/cotton percale sheeting, woven in Italy where they have a nose for fine fabrics. It's a pity it's not wider. £5.00 per mtr.
NV82 Poplin - Plain Dyed 45in wide 100% superior quality cotton poplin in red or Cerise £5.00 per mtr. NV83 Pertex 66in wide pale blue fine waterproof Pertex polyester cloth. If pale blue is the colour you are looking for this
NV85 Ponte Roma There are those out there who know all about this cloth and others who will be wondering what on earth it all means; I suppose literally it means a Roman bridge. What's that got to do with anything you will ask yourself. As far as the fabric is concerned it is a heavy duty polyester/ acrylic /lycra cloth, possibly used in the making of jodhpur like garments or tights for sporting activities, cycling shorts, that sort of thing. Immensely strong, beautifully made, quite rare I think. Around 56in wide. £4.00 per mtr. NV86 Quality Cotton Trouserings For those of you who bought these wonderful cotton trouserings, we hope you are pleased but for those of you who have not; these are 60in wide quite substantial fabrics and are made up into garments for an awfully expensive big name brand. a) A fine cotton twill in black, this also has a lightly sanded finish. b) A fine cotton Bedford cord in a pale sage green c) A fine twill in beige/ khaki d) A fine cotton twill in burgundy which has been very lightly gone over to give it a soft hand. I have said it before and I'll say it again they are fabulous. These are all £5.00 per mtr. NV87 Q I 60in wide, interesting and beautiful suiting made from mostly wool with the addition of silk to give it a hand like no other. Just the one weight, which is light suiting, jacketing, I doubt that you would make trousers but you would make a skirt. Whether you would want both jacket and skirt I am not sure. There are two colour ways. a) All shades of brown down to cream in the form of a dogtooth check. The background is basically cream woven into which are beige, darker beige, brown and darker brown making shapes, all of which are very clever and b) The same pattern with a different cream background into which are woven the same shapes, in navy blue turquoise, pale green and lemon. As good as cloth gets. Both are £9.50 per mtr. NV88 Rose and Hubble 45in wide medium sized floral print in cream, taupe and white on a black ground. Superb quality cotton, made in Japan: 20 metres left: £3.00 per mtr. NV89 Revenge first This 60in wide, heavy wool crepe coating in dark lavender is seriously tough and seriously beautiful. We had it rolled down into 30mtr lots because anything more than that and you couldn't lift it. This is not likely

to have been a recent cloth, as I am fairly certain it was made in England and we haven't made this sort of cloth for a long time. It will make a super coat, cover the settee, keep draughts out. You won't be displeased. £7.50 per mtr.
NV98 Squiggly Pink 60in wide cotton poplin with an all over outlined single thread floral embroidery design. The thread is shaded from dark red to pink giving the flowers of the embroidery a lovely tone. £5.00 per mtr.
NV90 Sports Mesh 60in wide white polyester sport mesh fabric. Stops your clothes from smelling - well nearly! £2.50 per mtr.
NV99 Suits you Sir 60in wide cotton suiting. You would swear looking at it that it ought to be made of wool but it isn't. It is a very tiny check in navy blue, dark mustard and grey. The overall appearance is quite dark and the navy blue is the predominant item in the check. Erm, perhaps not, it's worthy of a sample if you haven't seen it on the website. Cracking weight and a lovely cloth. £4.50 per mtr.
NV91 Seen In a Different Light 54in wide cotton twill, of some substance, with a lightly brushed back. It's washed, cleaned but unbleached. The brushing has probably been used to soften the cloth somewhat, which indeed it has done. It has all the attributes of an unbleached cloth, there are cotton impurities there and the aroma and we have only 100 metres of it. £4.50 per mtr. NV92 Severiano 60in wide cotton moleskin with cavalry twill weave in khaki and a very soft finish. You will gather from the title that it is Spanish £5.50 per mtr.
NV93 Satin Moleskin 60in wide polyester “moleskin” with a satin back. Easy care and quite stunning even if it is beige: £3.50 per mtr.
Opening Times We are not a shop as we have already mentioned. However appointments can be made and orders can be picked up if preferred. For placing orders by phone we are open between 9.30am - 4.30pm Monday to Friday but you can order online at www.croftmill.co.uk 24/7.
Our Guarantee NV94 Slip Sliding Satin 45in wide, heavy duty satin, with a fantastic sheen and a great body. If you are into theatricals this autumn and early winter, this is a cloth that will be seen at the back of any auditorium never mind the school hall. a) Emerald b) Royal Blue c) Petrol £3.50 per mtr.
NV95 Sheeting Not exactly like discovering a 6.2-carat diamond but in its own way just as comforting. 50/50 poly/cotton, 94in wide. a) Red b) Black c) Navy d) Royal Blue £4.50 per mtr.
NV96 Swimwear 60 inch wide nylon/ lycra swimsuit fabric in two designs. a) Orange and a shade of red to match the orange all in a floral tropical print. b) Patriotic red, white and blue all over floral pattern. Not quite as tropical this time but is exceptionally colourful. Both £6.00 per mtr. NV97 Stone Me 60in wide 60% wool 38% polyester 2% lycra lightweight, summer weight really, suiting in a darkish stone colour. It would appear that stone covers a wide spectrum of shades and tones as indeed stone itself does, this is just one of them. This is probably no more than a 6oz cloth and would therefore be described as tropical weight. It drapes well and is £5.00 per mtr.

As long as it has not been cut we will replace or make a refund for anything not to your liking within 14 days of delivery of your fabrics.
NV100 Sex and the City 60in wide or thereabouts very soft, silky printed polyester satin of a type that we had before in reds, purple and black and this time it's in vibrant greens, reds, lime and black. It's an all over tropical pattern and would look splendid in those things that you wear tucked inside your top and then spend all your time stopping them blowing away and exposing your legs; very Caribbean, very designer! £4.50 per mtr. NV101 She Who Dares 60in wide silky polyester satin. This has a black ground with densely spaced 2in diameter modern shaped flowers in lime, turquoise and white with red. Wonderful for tops and dresses. £5.50 per mtr NV102 Spot the Difference A delightful whisper light cotton lawn in cream with an all over dot print in pale orange and burgundy. The size of the dots varies from tiny to no more than 1/4in in diameter. £6.00 per mtr. NV103 Seersucker As summery as you are going to get, this 45 inch wide 100% cotton seersucker which is a bit of a rarity is an 1/8 of an inch check in pink and white and would look ever so pretty in a tiny dress with puff sleeves. a) Pale Pink and white b) Cerise and white Both are £4.50 per mtr.

NV104 Shine on 44” wide gold or silver lame. For decoration, for dress, for furnishing even. High gloss mirror finish. a) Gold b) Silver Both are £4.00 per mtr.
a couple of summers ago. 60in wide wool/poly mix, approximately 60% wool, in a lovely mishmash of blues, greens, yellows, oranges black, there is some interest in the weave, a little bit of slubbiness here and there. Generally speaking a rather nice medium weight ladies suiting. £5.50 per mtr.
NV105 Times Square Imagining all the lights of
NV112 The Crafty Spot 45in wide, beautiful cotton poplin cloth in either a) Pale sage green b) Pale blue c) Dusky pink d) Light navy e) Red/wine. These have a tiny all over white polka dot print. We used to only have the green but these are a welcome addition to the party. £5.50 per mtr.
Times Square and perhaps of Las Vegas combined on a dark night. This is a viscose dress fabric vibrant and full of colour. Bright pink, mauve, yellow, gold and cream fabulous abstract design on a black ground. You won't go unnoticed in this. 60in wide and £4.50 per mtr.
NV106 The Mountains Beyond Many years ago I travelled to Morocco and my first experience of mountain people was gained in the Atlas mountains. The light up there was remarkable, clearer than anything I had experienced before and the colours almost beggared belief, which brings me to this 62in wide cotton jersey in many colours, it appears as though it has been tie dyed and varies from a fairly dark blue in parts to peachy pink to an almost green in the middle. Also in this fabric are panels of embroidered lace, sorry I don't mean panels, I mean strips, they are not vertical or horizontal, they are diagonal and each about 2in to 3in wide. All the colours in the jersey are in the lace as well. As different as anything that I have seen in my short time on earth. £5.00 per mtr. NV107 The Colour Purple Purple just happens to be one of my favourite colours; incidentally the other one is green, not all greens but most of them. This is a very regal 60in wide purple cotton, lightweight canvas trousering, a fairly soft finish but very tough. £4.50 per mtr.
NV113 The Man Who Shot Liberty Vallance One of the contacts I have had in this business over the past 30 years is a bit of a maverick, he is a Yorkshire man through and through. He is also prone to exaggeration and from time to time it can get a little bit on your pip. However he does come up with the goods. Earlier this year he sold us a lot of velour and he has now found us some more. The colours are: a) Cornflower blue with a slight rib pattern. b) Navy Blue with a slight rib pattern. c) Black with a heavier rib pattern. d) Bottle green with a heavy rib pattern. e) Damson with heavy rib pattern. f) Pale Grey with heavy rib pattern. Great polyester cloth, it will make wonderful lounging garments. If you have some skill it will also make outdoor wear. £4.50 per mtr.
NV108 Taffeta 58in wide, polyester taffeta in 2 colours, a) Dark gold b) Dark damson It has a' distressed' finish which is no surprise considering the treatment it is given. Sort of bouffanty things come to mind as do indeed do ball gowns. Quite rare I think. £4.50 per mtr.
NV109 Things That Go Bump 60in wide cotton trousering from Germany which is a bit special. A very dark brown brushed cloth with a fine woven beige pin stripe at half-inch intervals, which melds well into the brushing. £5.50 per mtr.
NV110 Touch of the Don't Knows At least 60in wide poly/wool/ acrylic, skirt/ heavy trouser fabric of a weight and hand to make you believe there is more wool in it than there is. I am not sure of the content so I will not burden you further. Suffice it to say it is a lovely cloth in navy blue with a fine black tartan over check, difficult to go much further. Personally I like it. When made up the overall impression will certainly be of navy and closer inspection will show the detail in the weave. Nice at £4.50 per mtr.
NV114 The Union 60in wide, very finely woven cotton trousering in very dark navy with a black back, whether this contributes to the darkness of the navy I am not sure but why else would you have a black back on a navy cloth. On closer inspection the navy face side has a very fine twill weave whilst the black back has a plain weave. Under normal circumstances you only get that if you weave two cloths and put them together. I don't know how they have done that, but it is a weave and not a print. Super cloth. £5.50 per mtr.
NV115 The Black Spot Cream satin with a 1½” diameter black spot design. It is true to say there is more of the black showing than there is of the cream. Very striking. £4.00 per mtr.
NV116 The Great Washed 60in wide, 100% cotton, medium weight shirting in white. It has had a washing, as indeed all cloths have some kind of washing but this was maybe given an extra one. It has a soft finish, not pristine as in an ironed poly-cotton but has a slightly dimpled used look about it. Quite splendid. £4.50 per mtr.
NV111 Tweedy Some of you will recognise this because
NV117 Velvet Cord 60in wide, ridiculously fine
it was one of the first clothes we had when we started up again
cotton cord, with a velvet finish.

Without lycra. a) Pale beige. b) Dark brown. With lycra. c) Pale blue. d) Bright Pink e) Navy The pale beige and brown are lighter in weight than the blue and the pink. Super, smashing, great! All are £5.00 per mtr.
NV118 Van Delden 60 inch wide poly/cotton, this time in a darker beige which because of the fineness in the weave and the finest coatings is actually water repellent so this makes excellent summer walking or anorak gear, very light weight: The very best Van Delden in Holland - the very best, you would pay £60+ if you bought Rohan or Northface trousers in this. £4.50 per mtr.
NV119 Veronique - Taffeta 60in wide, embroidered polyester taffeta in 3 colours a) Silvery Grey. b) Sapphire c) Black. The embroidery is a creeping trailing floral design in a half drop across the width. Therefore making 2 repeats across the cloth and 4 trails. The flower is elegant and there is a lot of cloth between the embroidery i.e. the embroidery is not overpowering. One of the leaves “bursts” open with velour inside. This is awfully clever and a classy cloth. £5.50 per mtr.
d) Very dark green polyester hopsack which has a breathable coating on the backside. There isn't a great deal of any of them as these waterproof fabrics are becoming extremely scarce. So whilst you can't fill your boots because we haven't got enough if you are in need of good strong waterproof fabrics now is your chance. £5.00 per mtr.
NV124 Wool Jersey Now here's a thing, a 60in wide damson/wine coloured 100% wool jersey of a type I can certainly recall in figure hugging dresses. How old this fabric is I am unsure, I can't imagine it has just been manufactured. It has come to us via a merchant who cleared out an old tailoring company for both men's and women's outfits. This was just an odd roll found amongst other fabrics we received. It is dress weight; it might possibly itch, but having been warned some people can put up with that. It is however merino wool and is quite soft. Almost as rare as hens teeth. £7.50 per mtr. NV125 Wedgewood 54in wide white shadow stripe cotton voile with an all over but reasonably sparse floral sprig design in shades of blue. The shadow weave in the cloth forms approximately 1/8th of an inch stripe which you will see when you wear it but on the roll it's not that easy to see. Lovely cloth £4.50 per mtr.
NV126 Watch Me A lovely red lightweight polyester blouse fabric perfect if you want to stand out this party season. If you don’t want to make a blouse maybe you need to redden up something for Christmas. 45in wide £3.25 per mtr.
NV120 Wool Suitings Good things come in small packages. We have three beautiful Yorkshire made cloths that fit the bill. a) Grey not too dark, not too pale, very fine, almost herringbone weave pattern with a fine dotted pinstripe at approximately 1/2in intervals maybe a tad wider. b) Much darker grey, not quite black, plain weave cloth with the merest hint of a chalk stripe at the same sort of intervals as the first. They both have a soft hand probably 8 to 10oz in weight, so it is a substantial winter weight cloth. Both £12.00 per mtr.
NV121 Wool Serge This cloth obviously can't defy description but it's beautiful. I know I have gone on boringly about some of the cloths we have had in the past but this is good as any in navy blue, 60in wide substantial Italian wool with polyester serge fit for a prince £12.00 per mtr.
NV127 Yeehah Not quite 60 inch wide soft cotton plaid shirting not a million miles from the traditional Viyella patterns of the past. Although not the same fabric it is 100% cotton it is quite a delicate cloth with a lovely nice hand. There are two different colour ways. a) Turquoise/jade tones with her an over check in what appears to be khaki followed by a fine line over check in white. b) Shades of dusky pink and pale orange and navy blue with the same fine line over check in white. Both patterns are approximately 2in squares and are £4.00 per mtr.
NV122 Waterproof (Superfine) 60in wide black superfine coated, waterproof, breathable, Polyester fabric, which would have gone into the outer of those expensive down filled gilets. A supreme cloth which is still made locally: £4.50 per mtr.
NV123 Waterproofs 60in wide coated polyester fabrics, all a little bit different and all extremely capable cloths. All Ex Henri Lloyd. a) Royal blue fine hopsack. b) Pretty much the same but purple. c) Red with a much softer almost sanded finish. 10
