welcome To a fantastic and exciting autumn season of drama, dance, music, comedy and family events - this season is without doubt one of the most exciting we’ve ever produced here at Cumbernauld Theatre. I’m particularly thrilled to announce the opening of our brand new musical all about love and gambling, The Bookie. It’s not often Cumbernauld Theatre gets to be the place where there’s a world premiere of a brand new musical and it’s going to be a fantastic night out for everyone. Just remember, when it’s running on Broadway, you came here to see it first! After its performances here, we’ll be touring across Scotland, so tell your friends. Following on from the musical we’ve programmed the best in Scottish work for you to enjoy - from our relaxed and informal Comedy Café nights right through to live magic and the best touring drama that’s available. Watch out especially for Borderline’s ‘The Chooky Brae’ - the final part in the brilliant and frankly hilarious coming-of-age trilogy - and for
David Greig’s ‘The Monster in the Hall’ it’s powerful theatre which parents and teenagers should see together. Finally, we end with the biggest and best seasonal story ever - A Christmas Carol. Many people will know just how special our Christmas shows are - packed with great storytelling, funny moments, and an electric atmosphere that you just don’t get in bigger theatres where you end up spending a fortune just to sit right at the back! So bring all the family along this year for a show that’s absolutely guaranteed to knock your bed-socks off! There’s nothing like a night’s entertainment at Cumbernauld Theatre, so come and enjoy the special atmosphere of a great night out

EDINBURGH EVENING NEWS
Walden A UNIQUE EVENT: PERFORMANCE AND DISCUSSION Magnetic North SATURDAY 16 OCTOBER / 7PM & 9.15PM TICKETS £8 / £7 POST SHOW DISCUSSION 8.15PM
On 4th July 1845, Henry David Thoreau walked into the woods near his home town of Concord, Massachusetts and decided to stay. He found a spot next to a lake called Walden Pond and built a hut. For the next two years he attempted to live entirely by his own resources. Walden, Thoreau’s account of his experiment in simple living, is one of the most extraordinary and unclassifiable books ever written. Following rave reviews and sell-out performances in 2008 and 2009, Magnetic North once again presents its beautiful one-man adaptation of this classic meditation
on self-sufficiency, the individual’s relationship with the environment, and the desire not to live cheaply or dearly but to live deliberately. Performed in a unique, intimate setting designed by visual artists Sans façon, experience this one of a kind event of both performance and discussion with the creative makers of Walden. PRE/POST SHOW DISCUSSION- 8.15PM Walden is such a unique event, with very limited capacity, we highly recommend that you come to both the performance and the discussion. To let as many people see this sensational show we’ve sandwiched a discussion between two performances. So if you’re coming to the 7pm performance, the discussion will take place after the show at 8.15pm, or if you are coming to the 9.15 performance, please arrive at the theatre for about 8pm for the same 8.15pm discussion - Enjoy!

Duck and The Duke v Cat Claws Parsons + The Nameless Dreads (feat. The Lady from The Social Services) TAG presents a low budget indie comedy musical about a girl on the verge of a nervous breakdown played out by four actors and a big fat motorbike which goes vrroommm. Duck Macatarsney cares for her biker dad whose MS is getting increasingly bad. Her Dad - Duke - is a spliff smoking (for medicinal reasons you understand), bike riding, heavy metal loving, horror movie loving, pizza eating widower who’s brought up Duck since the death of her Mother in a crash. The two of them are just about surviving when one morning the Duke wakes up blind and the Duck hears that the Social Services are coming to take her away. The Monster in the Hall follows Duck as she tries to protect her world from the terrifying prospect of change. A new play from the same team that created the smash hit Yellow Moon (Best Show for Children and Young People TMA Awards 2007).
CUMBERNAULD THEATRE
The modern Bonnie and Clyde tale, Yellow Moon, came to Cumbernauld Theatre in autumn 2007. So if you loved Yellow Moon, we recommend you see The Monster in the Hall. Room 2 Manoeuvre
‘WATCH iT!’ ‘SUCH A BLOKE’ DOUBLE BILL
SATURDAY 23 OCTOBER / 7.45PM TICKETS £7 / U18s &
£5
Room 2 Manoeuvre presents a dynamic double bill of dance solos performed by Tony Mills. Fusing breakdance, physical theatre, film and animation ‘Watch iT!’ is a multimedia dance odyssey. This digital ‘Alice in Wonderland’ centres around one man’s love / hate relationship with his TV. This audio and visual beast of a show takes you on a ride to make you think about your own little box in the corner, - a hit at the 2009 Fringe Festival - ‘Watch iT!’ is described as ‘essential viewing’.
“AN EXHILARATING AND FUNNY TAKE ON A MODERN OBSESSION UNFORGETTABLE AND ABSOLUTELY MESMERISING” This double bill flips from the colourful sensation of ‘Watch iT!’ to the sleek, semi autobiographical performance, ‘Such a Bloke’. Created by award winning choreographer Janis Claxton, the second part of the double bill offers an emotionally driven contrast between frustration and futility from personal insight. Gripping, funny and unpredictable, both pieces are an absolute must see. Please note this performance contains some mild, humorous sexual references. Age recommendation 12+
