What’s more, I’m happy to announce the launch of a brand new project: a community play.

There’s a special page in this brochure with further information. Lots of community groups meet at the theatre and it’s a welcoming atmosphere, so don’t worry if you’ve never joined-in anything before.

PERFECT DAYS

A CELEBRATION OF INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY 2010

By Liz Lochhead

SUNDAY 7 MARCH / 9.30AM – 4PM

THU 25 - FRI 26 MARCH / 8PM

Cumbernauld Theatre and the Studio Arts Forum welcome you to enjoy a day of recreational and interactive workshops, activities and entertainment.

It’s Barbs 39th birthday and she appears to have it all. But none of it compensates for her one aching need, to have a child. A sharp and poignant romantic comedy about how romantic love, mother love and friendship, affect one woman as she goes about trying to get what she really wants. Written in realistic Glaswegian, the play is forthright and bawdy, yet never offensive.

An Exhibition of Art by an International Group of Women Artists will be held in the Theatre Bar from Friday 5th March to Friday 12th March. These events are held to inspire women for what is now an offical holiday in many parts of the world. IWD recognises the continuing struggle for women’s equal rights and opportunities worldwide and celebrates their achievements to date.

COMMUNITY PLAY 2010: Get Involved! A Fantastic Chance to Join Cumbernauld Theatre Cumbernauld Theatre will be rehearsing a large scale community play for June this year. We’re looking for as many people as possible to join in with this project - make no mistake this is a fantastic opportunity to join an exciting community project and show off all your hidden and not-so-hidden talents. So whether it’s singing, dancing, web design, twitter, hairdressing, make-up, film-making, graphics, set painting, choreography, writing music, playing guitar, performing magic - whatever creative urge you have then this is the project to make it happen. Cumbernauld is a town with real community spirit. Yes, the architecture of the Town Centre may not be too many

people’s tastes - but we all live and work here together and as a Theatre we’re proud to be at the heart of our vibrant creative community. Each year thousands (almost 35,000 to be precise) of people come to the Theatre to enjoy a show, a band, a drink or to take their children to our many classes. But this project is different because this project is all about making sure everyone can also be involved, not just as an audience, but in all aspects of making a theatre production happen. We welcome everyone of all ages and interests - your skill level is not

as important as your energy and commitment- because we’ll all learn a few things on this project.

If you’ve never been involved - or have never even been to our theatre - don’t worry, it’s a welcoming team here.

The play will be written by Cumbernauld artist and playwright Brian Miller, and will be rehearsed from March through to performances in June. There’ll be a weekly rehearsal, a special Easter course for everyone to come together and learn new skills, and then intensive rehearsals in May and June up to the week of performances.

Simply email us at the following address and we’ll forward you further information about getting involved.

The Theatre used to produce a community play regularly in the 1980s but the tradition ebbed away. This year will see its return and it’s going to be one of the highlights of our programme this year.
