Team Talk :)
F
irstly, I would like to say that I hope everyone is safe in these crazy times. Secondly, to apologize that because of what is happening around the world with the virus this issue is late to publish but we made it. Thirdly, to let you all know that we are transitioning to a more inclusive magazine for all women. We have been focussing on teens for our first year but have had so many people reach out that are older and tell us how much they enjoy the mag. So, this will be our last teen issue and our June issue will have content relevant and appropriate to all women. Women of all ages and from all walks of life. We have bought together a team that assist you to live a positive, self-sufficient and authentic life. We discuss everything from starting your own business, to creating that eye-catching resume that can get you back into the workforce after children. How to structure your life to become self-sufficient and ultilise the power of positivity and rituals to keep you focussed and on track. We also discuss the hard-hitting issues like depression, anxiety, PTSD and give you the things that worked for us to live with or overcome these mental illnesses. Cleansing the body and mind is also important and not just of toxins in food or the environment. What you read, watch and who you spend your time with is just as important to getting to where you want to be. You deserve to live the life you want and our team will help you in any way they can to get you through life’s rollercoaster.
Resilience is one of the things I will discuss after spending 12 years in the New South Wales Police force and working in places like Redfern, Kings Cross and Central Sydney CBD. I just self-published my book that I wrote as therapy to assist me with the trauma I suffered. Writing things down is definitely cathartic for me. So, I hope you enjoy the coming issues of the magazine and feel free to reach out to me at any time. I would like to help you anyway I can or point you in the right direction of who can. Our team is here for you, so follow their social accounts, comment on their post and engage with them wherever you can so we can keep sharing content that you want to read. Lastly, thank you very much for being a fan of our mag and hopefully you continue to enjoy the transition to the new content. See you in June and remember keep engaged and connected so we can get through this together. Empowered Women Together! O
nce a relic of the 80s and 90s, Scrunchies have made one of the biggest fashion comebacks, ever! They are a super easy sewing project and can even be stitched by hand. If you have scrap fabric at home, they look great in velvet or bright colors that pop. If you are not the sort to have fabric stashed away, you can chop up old clothes made of funky non-stretch fabric and feel good about reducing, reusing and recycling! I like this powder because it’s so versatile. Most days I get a fluffy brush and swipe some on the top of my cheek bones and up to my temples, a little down the centre of my face and a swipe across my eyelids. It gives a glow and makes me look fresh and like I made an effort even though it took two seconds. The price is awesome and I absolutely love the whole Mecca Max range, if you haven’t already definitely check it out. And this gold, champagne colour is perfect on all skin tones.

F
irstly let me just say that I think the highlighter craze is way OTT. When I see people with so much highlighter all over their face I secretly cringe. But when done subtly it looks soooooo good! They can come in creams or powders and I like to use both depending on my skin at the time. So lets get down to it, here are some of my fave highlighters and how I like to use them.
Skin Halo Diamond Dust in Solid Gold $22 at Mecca Maxima
Ambient Lighting Palette by Hourglass $90 at Mecca Cosmetica and Mecca Maxima
Ok so this is my holy grail highlighter. If you want a real life instagram filter, this is for you. Now I use this as an actual type of setting powder as it's super subtle, I get a powder brush and run it over all three shades and lightly dust all over, then I go back in with a blush brush and use the middle shade on the cheekbones and inner corner of my eyes. You can also buy the colours individually if you only want one shade. I have bought this palette numerous times and use it on clients as well. Worth every cent!
As the name suggests this is a fluid highlighter which makes it great for mixing one or two pumps in with your foundation. It gives a beautiful radiance to your skin and comes in a range of hues to suit all skin tones. I use shade 1 or 2 mixed in with my base and I don’t usually set with any powder when I wear this as my skin isn’t overly oily and I like that dewy look. You can also use the pink and bronze shades as a liquid blush or on the eyes. Great for people who don’t like powders or with super dry skin.
Fluid Sheer By Giorgio Armani $90 at David Jones or Sephora

A few things to note are, when using a highlighter you want to put it where you want to “highlight” or bring forward. For example people with a round face might contour using a bronzer underneath the cheekbones and highlight the tops of the cheekbones to create dimension and shape. And again, highlight down the centre of the nose and contour the sides to make the nose appear slimmer. Beware, when highlighting the cupids bow above the lip, don’t go overboard as it can look like your just a sweaty betty with a sweaty upper lip. I see it all too often. Unless your doing editorial work I feel that a subtle glow always looks best. Now go and get your glow on!

MONTANA
THE MAGICAL WORLD OF MOVIE MAKEUP
I am 21 years old and have been living in Sydney for about a year now. I started dancing with Allstars Studio with Kate Maggs the principal, and continued for 15 years. Working within a group and depending on one another gave me responsibility and comradery, we took care of each other and became a family.
My first job was a character face painter for Pocket Full of Parties, I would come to the party dressed as a character the parent had chosen and interact with the children. We would play games, face paint, dance and sing songs. My makeup skills plus my background in dance helped me with this job immensely.

NIDA was the place I wanted to go the most as their reputation precedes them and just to get chosen to do the program after the interview was very prestigious. There were a few hundred applicants for the CUA51015 DIPLOMA OF SCREEN AND MEDIA (SPECIALIST MAKE-UP SERVICES) and there were only 14 places that could be filled. I felt very honoured to get a place and wanted to make the most of every moment. I not only learned about going back to basics with makeup, but wigs and hair styling. One subject I was extremely keen on learning was prosthetics, learning how to turn someone into a creature of your liking. It was a very intense course, even though it may have only been 3 terms we only had 2 weeks off for the whole time. Within my time at NIDA we learned to expand our collaboration knowledge, we paired up with other students from other courses to create productions from theatre pieces to music videos. We had a great
variety of opportunities to create & it was helpful to do these collaborations as we now knew what we would be in for in the ‘real world’ situations of this field.

1.
WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO CRUSH YOUR DREAMS? Ever since I was a child, the goal has always been to have pursue both my ambition and passion and to always prove to myself that everything in life is achievable with hard work, consistency, creativity, perseverance and discipline.
2.
WHO IS YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION IN LIFE AND WHY? My biggest inspiration in life is my Mum and Dad, they have always encouraged me to do the best of my ability and follow my dreams. Most parents not only want their children to do well in life but also think that they have to go into some sort of job to achieve that. They put their trust in me that I would do well at the things I love the most, and with their help I was able to complete my studies through to a Diploma of Makeup Artistry. My mother is also the person who got me into makeup to start with, watching her apply her makeup every day I would think I want to be just like Mummy. I would steal her lipsticks and go crazy with them, but would get in a lot of trouble when it was found everywhere and her good lipsticks were wrecked.
3.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE DOING WHEN YOU’RE NOT DANCING / ACTING?
When I’m not doing makeup or dancing I usually draw. My creativity started with drawing and scribbling about, my usual drawing isn’t like drawing portraits it’s more creating patterns flowers or just a bunch of bizarre objects that belong together overlapping and merging with one another. It’s where my attention to detail flourished which was incorporated in my other hobbies.

4.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT? Creating my first prosthetic piece from start to finish. You may not think that’s a big accomplishment, but the amount of work that goes into the process and how easily it can just fall apart makes the whole experience just that more gratifying when it’s completed. From creating the first face negative mould, placing and moulding the clay on the positive mould, making a silicon positive of the prosthetic piece then applying your work to your model. It’s a process that takes a number of days to achieve. For my first prosthetic piece work to go as well as it did with no major setbacks was a huge accomplishment for me. 49
5. HOW OLD WERE YOU WHEN YOUR LOVE FOR DANCING STARTED?
3.
At the ripe age of 4 I walked into my first dance studio, but at the age five I met the dance teacher who would turn into my second mother for the next 15 years. Kate Maggs- Principle of Allstars dance Studio, helped guild me to be confident with myself become the woman I am today.

IF YOU HAD TO DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN MAKEUP ARTISTRY WHAT WOULD IT BE? I would have gone into something creative. From a young age I’ve been quite the creative type, always drawing and playing pretend. When I was quite young many people were quite amazed at my drawing skills and the perspective I would take of the subject, if I hadn’t gotten into the makeup industry I would have probably become an art teacher.
7. HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH NERVES??
Whenever nerves set in I try to remember to trust in myself that I’m capable of doing the task ahead, and to take one step at a time to achieve the goal.
8. WHO IS A ROLE MODEL IN YOUR FIELD?
Pat McGrath, she is known for her unique innovative make-up looks and Techniques. She built herself from the ground up starting with no formal training to becoming a nationally known makeup artist and makeup brand. She is an amazing role model, with the way she carried herself through life always striving to do better and create innovative products.
9. WHAT IS YOUR NEXT GOAL IN YOUR CAREER?
I would love to go into the film industry. To be a part of something so creative and technical would stretch my abilities and help me grow even further.

10. WHAT AWARDS HAVE YOU WON? At Dancing I was awarded Senior Club Champion. This was for my skills not only in dancing, but in stage props and costuming as well. I was awarded a Certificate of Excellence in my Cert lll makeup course as well as TAFE NSW TVET Student of the Year. Whilst taking the TAFE course I was also studying for the HSC, doing 3 majors; Art, Design Technology and Textiles.
11. WHAT TRAINING DO YOU DO TO KEEP IN SHAPE?
After moving away from home for school I stopped attending dance, so for fitness I now attend the gym 4-5 times a week, or as much as I can.

To my teen sisters, s the living situations around us continue A to change the same thoughts keep going through my mind. What if we grow distant? What if we lose the amazing bond and friendship we share?
Now that school is cancelled I won’t see you everyday, we won’t have our time together to chat on the bus, we can’t sit together in Maths and laugh at the teacher, we can’t hang out with all the girls at recess and lunch to discuss the latest goss and we can’t get ready to go to the party together on the weekend. It’s times like this that I realise more than ever how much your friendship means to me and how at times I took it for granted. So I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to tell you some things I want you to know right now.
• I’m always here for you
no matter what. Although we can’t physically be together that doesn’t mean I can’t support you and be there for you like I always am, we just need to get creative, find new ways to connect. How lucky we are that it’s 2020 and we have endless ways to do that. I’m here if you wake up anxious and need to chat over the phone, I’m here if you wake up sad and need a laugh over FaceTime with a silly face filter, I’m here if you need a distraction and want to play trivia on House Party and I’m here if you just need a good old goss sesh in a group chat with the rest of the girls.

It’s easy and almost natural for us to slip into a negative mindset, looking and focusing on all we don’t have and can’t do but this doesn’t help the current situation and more so our mental health. If we can find even just one thing in each day to be grateful for, we could share that one little thing with each other. It might hard right now, but I know it will get easier if we do it together.

• This too shall pass
- remember that time when I tripped over at school and it was all everyone could talk about for weeks? Remember when you failed that test and you thought the world was going to end? In both of those times, and so many other times, it feels like we will never be able to most past that moment. But we did. And it’s the same with this situation right now. One day we will look back and remember this strange time, we will laugh and talk about how we talked for hours on facetime, or binge watched an entire season of a show on Netflix in one day, or made up the most amazing choregraphed routines on TikTok. This too shall pass, and it will just be another chapter in our story.
• Be kind to yourself at this time - sometimes it’s hard to even get out of bed right now. I have times where I don’t want to wash my hair or eat my lunch. But we have to be kind to ourselves at this time. Be kind to our minds and our bodies. We have to make sure we are doing something at least once a day that brings us joy and happiness. Listening to some of our favourite music, doing a facemask, painting and re-painting my nails, reading and even yoga – these are some of the things I’ve been doing lately that make me smile. We could do some of these things together over Facetime, or I could help you think of things that I think would bring you joy. But it’s more important now than ever, to speak kindly to ourselves, and do things that make us smile. 63
It’s not that I never thought these things about you and our friendship, it’s just that I never said them to you. But this current situation has made me realise we shouldn’t wait to tell people we love them, how much they mean to us or that we are always there for them, so from now on, I promise to tell you these things just because and not wait for a reason why.

HOW TO MAKE COOKIE DOUGH EGGS A
s temping as it might be, I wouldn’t try to bake this dough! I was curious about how this dough would end up baked, so I rolled dough into a few balls and baked them. They ended up spreading out a ton and got really hard – not great. The cookie dough is amazing, but baking this dough just doesn’t work.
This cookie dough also freezes beautifully! I put some of this dough in the freezer to see how well it would hold up, and it freezes and thaws great. If you want to make a batch of dough ahead of time, you can freeze it, thaw completely at room temp and roll into eggs.
69
INGREDIENTS Cookie Dough: • 1/3 cup + 1 Tablespoon palm oil • 1-1/4 cup powdered sugar • 2 Tablespoons rice milk • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract • 1 cup fine sorghum flour • 1/8 teaspoon salt • 2 Tablespoons mini allergy-friendly chocolate chips
Chocolate covering: • 1/2 cup mini allergy-friendly chocolate chips • 1-3 teaspoons coconut oil
IF YOU’RE WONDERING IF THESE ARE REALLY VEGAN SINCE THEY HAVE PALM OIL IN THEM (OR ANY OF MY OTHER RECIPES USING PALM OIL), I USE A SUSTAINABLY SOURCED PALM OIL
70
Crush It Magazine
4. 1. In a medium bowl, beat together the palm oil, powdered sugar, rice milk, and vanilla with a hand mixer.
2. Beat in the flour, salt, and mini chocolate chips until a thick dough forms. The dough should be thick and not sticky
3. Roll about 1 Tablespoon of cookie dough into an egg shape, and chill for a few minutes to firm up. Don’t leave these too long in the fridge or they can dry out a bit
While the cookie dough eggs are chilling, melt the chocolate chips with the coconut oil in a small bowl in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time until completely melted. If you want a thicker coating of chocolate, use 1 teaspoon coconut oil. If you want a thin coating of chocolate, use 1 Tablespoon coconut oil.
5. Dip the cookie dough eggs in the chocolate and let them set up either at room temp or in the fridge (for faster setting use the fridge)
6. These have the best texture when they are served and stored at room temperature in a sealed container. If you chilled these to let the chocolate set, allow them to sit at room temp for about 15 minutes to soften the dough.

4 TIPS TO IMPROVE
YOUR RESUME FOR INTERVIEW SUCCESS
Created by Skills For Your Career Owner Loretta Spatocco
A
re you ready and motivated to succeed in your career? If your answer is yes, you already possess two wonderful qualities. Confidence and motivation. You have a positive attitude and the energy to succeed. The “how-to-do-it” comes when you believe in yourself. How do I know this? I’ve helped hundreds of job seekers secure their first professional role. I’ve learnt confidence, self-awareness, unwavering motivation, and a positive mindset fuels your job search and gives you the best chance of achieving the position you desire. If you want to enhance these qualities and develop your resume writing skills, then the four tips outlined below will help you out. You’ll develop the “how-to” and create a resume that will attract your dream employer.
77
SO, HERE WE GO! GRAB A NOTEBOOK AND PEN AND LET’S GET STARTED:
1.
Become Self-Aware
Your resume matters. What’s equally important is knowing yourself and being able to communicate your strengths, passion and skills to a potential employer. How do you do this? By becoming self-aware. What does it mean to be self-aware? The dictionary definition of self-awareness says, “Conscious knowledge of one’s character and feelings.” One aspect of self-awareness is knowing your strengths. This will not only help you to write an effective resume, but it will also allow you to answer the toughest questions during an interview.
Can you confidently answer the two most common interview questions?
• Tell me about yourself? • What are your strengths? Think about your responses for 10 minutes. Are you stuck? That’s okay. Before you begin writing your resume, you need to become more self-aware.
Think about your responses for 10 minutes. Are you stuck? That’s okay. Before you begin writing your resume, you need to become more self-aware.
78
Crush It Magazine
Try this exercise: 1. List the skills and knowledge you have
developed through participating in hobbies, school life, university and employment.
2. Using the list above, circle some skills you are
passionate about. Why are you passionate about these skills?
You’re now on the way to becoming more self-aware! By reflecting and looking deep into who you are, what you do and how you make others feel will not provide you with valuable content to use in your resume, but it will build your confidence from within.
3. What skills or attributes have others praised you on, and what do they say about you?
2. Communicate Your Value And Uniqueness
How do you capture the attention of a hiring manager in the written form? By clearly communicating your strengths and the outcomes of your performance. One way to do this is by writing a core competency statement. For example, you may use words to describe yourself such as, committed, compassionate and professional. These are qualities employers want in an employee. But just writing the word can lack credibility and depth in a modern resume.
You aim to engage the employer in three seconds (I know, so quick!) and compel them to read further and contact you for an interview.
Your competency statement should include elements of your personality, as well as your values, skills, passion and experience. And guess what? You’ve already done some of the work in tip one using the self-reflective questions. Referring to what you wrote in tip one, elaborate on the keywords and sentences by describing how your strengths and attributes contributed to the workplace. Here’s an example of a student nurse’s response to the first question in tip one. List the skills and knowledge you have developed through participating in hobbies, school life, university and employment? Well-developed communication skills, listening skills, empathy, and ability to provide quality patient care.
79
Below is an example of how to use these words into a core competency statement. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: With an engaging communication style and highly developed listening skills, I can effectively build trust with patients and deliver quality patient care.

81
3.
Target Your Resume To The Role
Visually, your resume needs to make an impression. A well-formatted template combined with content that sparks a hiring manager to contact you increases your chances of interview success.
• What the employer is looking for: • Sections of your resume to be aligned with your experience, passion, knowledge and skills matching the requirements of the role, advertisement, job description, industry and company. • Enthusiasm for the position and an understanding of the employers needs. • Outcomes, results or achievements. This article, we are going to look at targeting the profile summary located on the top of the front page. You’ll notice I have identified what sections need to focus on besides the profile and branding statements in red.
• The primary selling points for your profile • summary are: • The number of years of experience gained in the field, credentials and qualifications. • Your specialisation, training, knowledge or technical skills that match the role and industry. • How you perform and outcomes achieved. Example profile addressing the primary selling points: A qualified Graduate Nurse offering a high standard of clinical skills. An engaging communication style and ability to connect with patients in a meaningful way. Builds trust and delivers quality patient care. Achieved patient satisfaction and 100% positive preceptor evaluations during clinical placements. Refer to Example 1.1 for a profile that targets a Graduate teacher position. 82

4.
Include Vital Information
EVERY RESUME SHOULD INCLUDE THESE SEVEN THINGS: 1. Your details including; full name, mobile, email and suburb 2. Profile summary 3. Qualifications, education and training 4. Most recent role including; company, position, dates (same with previous role/s) 5. Knowledge and value offering 6. Proof of your capability 7. Referees
Most of these are apparent, but number 5 and 6 need some explaining. Here’s the thing, competition is fierce in most industries, including graduate and entry-level roles. What I know from working with hundreds of passionate job seekers is that they’re humble people who are not comfortable with selling themselves in the written form. But they have unique strengths and experiences they’re unaware of, hindering their chances of getting noticed.
So how do you reflect on your value and show evidence to prove it? Answer this question – how does your strengths, value and experience align you to the role you are applying? Here’s the nursing student’s response to this question. She’s applying for a Graduate Program. “I provided quality patient care to elderly residents by supporting them with their showering and hygiene needs. My ability to perform compassionate and supportive care to elderly patients meant I was able to improve their health and general wellbeing.”
See how the student connects her skills to how she provided value? It’s a good idea to have similar statements under each role you list in your resume, but write it in the third person. Remove the “I” and “my” and begin each sentence with an achievement verb, such as “provided”, “delivered” or “supported”. Now for the evidence. What type of proof can you include? A testimonial, otherwise known as a personal statement. A personal statement from a referee, supervisor or a colleague provides evidence of your performance during employment or work experience. 83
84
Crush It Magazine
Example 1.1: Testimonial on a resume - located underneath the profile.
There you have it! Proof of your capability. Testimonials strengthen your profile, authentically and powerfully showing credibility and providing evidence of your high standard of work. My biggest tip is to make sure you gather testimonials throughout your career journey. Whether it be from a lecturer, teacher or manager, kindly ask for a personal statement and permission to use their name and title on your resume.
Believe
YOU CAN SUCCEED AND YOU WILL
Developing a keen sense of self-awareness will enable you to create a career with purpose. Through learning to draft, craft and improve the content on your resume, you’ll realise this is the BEST self-development activity you can do. You’ll not only get a more profound sense of who you are and what you’re passionate about but also develop writing skills you can bring to the workforce. We believe in YOU and your ability to crush your career goals. To Your Career Success!

We actually never left just life got in the way, and your sense of understanding, support and never ending patience and belief in us and especially Amy-Summer has meant she knows she is in capable hands and that you know exactly how to pick up where you left off with her. Your teaching style is so innately in tune with how she processes information. Because she knows this she automatically feels confident that she is in not only in good hands but her anxiety in relation to Maths has evaporated. You are an incredible teacher with an understanding of not only your students, but being abundantly aware of their wellbeing is so evident and pivotal in terms of what makes you that much better at what you do. Have said many times before, if you are thinking about a tutor look no further than BPT Private Tuition. Kylie at the helm is just brilliant in how she can look at the whole student’s needs and then adapt her teaching style so it fits so innately into how each individual student learns. Each student is different, and Kylie’s recognition of this is what places her at a level of excellence most teachers would find simply unattainable. You can’t teach that. It is what makes BPT Private Tuition so incredible . We still travel 140km round trip to attend tutoring with Kylie. So worth it. The impact BPT has had on Amy-Summer is so overwhelming [sic] positive that cannot recommend her highly enough.

A
t school I was always a consistent student. Not great but not bad either. If I applied myself I could have done much better, but with a mind full of worry study wasn’t a thing I was able to focus on. In high school my beautiful family fell apart. I sat in class un-focused, worried about my family. Especially my 3 younger siblings. I’d sit staring out of the classroom window anxiously. I completed year 12, mainly as I had no idea what I wanted to do for a career and the future was something I could not clearly vision. I didn’t get my t.e.r (now u.a.i ) as I chose to do subjects I was interested in and this meant I would be down by 1 unit!? I didn’t care I went on to complete year 12 anyway.

Once finishing year 12 I still had no idea what I wanted to do. As a creative person I knew it would have to involve something where my creative spirit would evolve. My first jobs where very boring, mind numbing and (at times as a female bullied). I started in hospitality and as an all rounder I was an asset to any cafe. I soon started helping the head chef with food preparation etc... Catching on quickly having cooked many meals for my family it came naturally and I could get creative. I was offered an apprenticeship but turned it down as at this time I was out of home with bills to pay and an apprenticeship wage was not enough. Later, I went to TAFE as a mature aged student and got that qualification.

y journey started with Chocolate.
My business was founded in 2013, I’d just had baby number 2. I was exhausted, overweight and depressed, and I was trying my best to overcome my addiction to Cadbury chocolate. I was eating a block of chocolate each night, and a kind friend of mine introduced me to Raw chocolate, as she knew I was struggling to find a healthier alternative. At that time, there was no where to buy raw chocolate, so I investigated how to make it and started to experiment. It was love at first bite, and I was hooked.
116
Crush It Magazine
Not long after, I was sharing it with my friends and family, and they fell in love too, so I took the plunge and decided to start selling this Raw chocolate and other raw treats at my local market. Local shop owners would come and buy the treats, and they asked me to stock them, so all of a sudden, I was wholesaling these treats around my local area. After 1.5 years of doing this, I decided that being in a kitchen all day wasn’t for me. I missed people, and wanted to make an impact on people’s lives by teaching them how to make all these treats, and all the other whole foods and ferments I was making at home. So, I started teaching workshops in 2015. My first workshop was small, I had 9 people there, and my hubby was my staff member for the day. Over the years, I’ve learnt so much along the way, and my workshop numbers have grown significantly, and so has my team. I now have a team of 5 staff members who assist me to run my business, and I run a variety of sold out whole food workshops & fermenting workshops (and my amazing online Wholly Nourished Hub Membership), which give people the opportunity to choose healthier alternatives.
