Architectural Portfolio

About this portfolio

This portfoio is a selection of architectural and landscape explorations. Through revisiting designs from my academic carreer, I reinterpreted the selected projects while adding new concepts and ideas. Along with my interdisciplinary assets gained from a bachelor in architecture and master in landscape architecture, I am able to apply the skills and concepts picked up on my professional setting in landscape architecture in order to strategically blend the two. I belive that my passion for the design of a building and the way in which it intereacts with the landscape makes me an essential candidate to an architectural firm. My willingness and desire to learn, really gives me the freedom to employ innovative and thoughtful solutions for an integrated design.

Lake House |residential lake martin, alabama

The character of the site; steeply sloped, heavily wooded, and overlooking lake martin, suggested the crude angled geometry of the architecture that mimics the landscape. The un-apologetic shape maximizes views and dayling for interior spaces. The spaces are divided by a central stair, allowing the two main volumes to house the primary family spaces on the top level. The secondary spaces, the office, bedrooms, and master suite, are stacked along the slope in order to allow for cascading views from every space. Large floor-to-ceiling windows allow each space to share the grandius view of the lake and landscape beyond. The project is a primary example of the potential for architecture and the landscape be harmoniousy integrated.

Shelter | public auburn, alabama

The project involved the use of various planning strategies in order that the down town in the city of auburn, alabama serves as a catalyst to project the vision of sustainable site initiatives. Site strategies such as water filtration, green roof and multi-purpose spaces were explored along the ‘back-of-house’ to the commercial core. Molding and re-shaping the topography was key to allow these processes to become legible. This in turn transforms the urban fabric into a didactic landscape while mimicking the dramatic topography of auburn. The concept of the ‘shelter’ came through physical sketch models & computer modeling that resulted in a multi-modal building/public-space. The resulting structure offers an additional 15,000 square feet of interior space that could house a cafe/restaurant & bike rental shop to further promote a healthier & sustainable life style. In addition, the roof top can be used for leisure as a ‘hang out’ space for both college residents and visitors.

1031 PARK |mixed-use chicago, illinois

The project involved designing a mixed-use, mid-rise tower to house a selection of programatic elements in the down-town area of chicago, il. The program includes pedestrian level retail, exrecise|recreational facilities, restaurant, & an event space |auditorium. The concept and form of the building were developed through spatial diagrams, physical modeling, and computer modeling. The result was a main residential tower, flanked by two adjacent wings that house the rest of the program. The building does not compete with its surrounding in height or form Instead it opens into the adjacent park & acts as a special jewel among other monumental structures.

Pending a renovation, the clients, a young designer|developer couple, approached me as a design consultant to update the look of their newly purchased condo in buckhead, atlanta. The appartment is a 1,300 sq ft 2-BR | 2 BATH from the mid ‘80s & will be phased going from public to private spaces. Athough the layout in the living|dining|kitchen remained untouched, the challenge came in gaining any possible square inch by pushing and pulling the existing walls. The choice of materials was key in order to create visual features that will give the condo new & contemporary look

The memorial garden which sits adjacent to the new Veterinary Medicine Learning Center facility is designed for contemplation and inspiration. The garden reveals various moments of surprise while maintaining a certain level of serenity as you move through each space. I was involved in both design development and construction documentation stages of the project and produced marketing and fundraising material for the client.

1000 Park Amenity Deck

Atlanta, GA

This high rise luxury apartment complex will be located in buckhead, atlanta. The design includes a formal motor court drop-off/entry & an adjacent residential amenity pool deck. Energetic paving & planting forms drive the design into various open & intimate spaces that help structure the residential tower. The residents are given a generous variety of programs around the amenity deck including ‘media’ bars, firepit areas, movable seating, lounging and tanning spaces for the pool. An intricate ‘spill over’ fountain flows from the upper pool deck onto the lower community area.

Project Acorn Atlanta, Georgia

Project Acorn is a design for a private corporation residing in the outskirts of Atlanta. The concept is mainly driven by cues taken from the client’s already established language and motifs from the products they offer. The two main challenges of grading and vehicular/pedestrian separation became opportunities to detailing at both macro and micro-scales. These details were made present through the signage, fencing, and paving used throughout the site.

Kitchen Renovation

Albertville, Alabama

Following a kitchen fire, which fortunately did not consume any major structural components of the four bedroom, two and a half bath house, both the kitchen and living room underwent major renovations. With functionality and aesthetic as the driving components, I was able to provide a series of interior renderings as well as technical drawings that aided both the client and the general contractor in choosing materials, fixtures and color for a speedy renovation process. In order to help the client cope with the unfortunate accident, the layout of the kitchen was transformed, giving it better flow and an updated, contemporary look.
