PUTTING YOUR GARDEN TO BED Helen Dolan and Pat Mulligan, Master Gardeners with the Rensselaer County Division of the Cornell Cooperative Extension will present “Putting your Garden to Bed” on Tuesday, September 6th at 6 PM at the Lansingburgh Branch of the Troy Public Library.

The workshop will cover wintering over tender bulbs and plants, cleaning up perennial beds, harvesting seeds, providing protection for shrubs and trees and more.

RED LIONS INDIE ROCK GROUP IN CONCERT AT SLCA

Saratoga Springs Youth Orchestra Auditions

The Red Lions performed during 2006-2010 in the capital region as a group featuring singer/songwriter Eric Margan and a diverse ensemble of musicians. They’ve evolved in a number of ways, both in line-up and musical style. With the addition of singer/songwriter Caroline Corrigan, the band has begun to sing 3 and 4-part vocal harmonies and exchange roles of lead vocalist. Multi-instrumentalist Rick Spataro has gravitated toward playing the drums and Jonnie Baker has joined the band as lead guitarist. Scott Kellerhouse lives in Ithaca but lends his talents on keyboards, guitar and bass on occasion.

The new sound is less orchestral and more rock ‘n’roll- but equally as melodious and sweet. They’re having a lot of fun playing music so come hear them play their versions of familiar songs, as well as the great originals from their CD’s Midnight Book and Human Rhythms on Fri., Sept. 9 at 7:30pm and tickets are $12 adults and $8 under 18. However, such couples who are about to walk down the aisle might want to take a cue from Prince William and his now princess bride, Catherine Middleton.

In what many called the social event of the year and some called the most talked about wedding since Prince William’s late mother, Diana, walked down the aisle roughly 30 years earlier, the prince and his bride stayed cool under pressure despite the knowledge that their wedding was being broadcast all over the world.

The Nielsen Co., which monitors television viewer habits across the globe, reported that, in America alone, 22.76 million viewers watched the ceremony as it was taking place between the hours of 6 a.m. and 7:15 a.m. EDT on Friday, April 29.

That viewing was spread across 11 different networks, including ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, BBC America, andE! Entertainment. But broadcast networks were not the only ones to reap the rewards of what came to be known as the Royal Wedding. E! Online reported its 23.6 million page views the Friday of the wedding was the most the site had ever garnered, while ABCNews.com, no stranger to big news stories itself, saw its online traffic reach its highest point since the 2008 presidential election.

This is a major fundraiser for the Troy Damien Center. The center provides social, educational and support opportunities for people and families affected
