CHRISTIAN EDUCATION CLASSES TO BEGIN On Sunday, September 11, 2011, the Nassau and Stuyvesant Reformed Churches will focus on the Gospel of Matthew 18:2125 where in the Gospel writer speaks to the Grace of Forgiveness. In these verses, Jesus tells the parable of the unforgiven debtor through conversation with Peter. In response to Peter’s question about how often he must forgive someone who offends him, Jesus talks about the true meaning of forgiveness and the consequences of not forgiving one another.

In the sermon titled, “The Grace of Forgiveness,” the Reverend Edward L. Van Kampen will reference how the death of Christ has won the forgiveness of sins for all believers and releases us to be people who forgive others.

The Nassau Reformed Church worships at 11 a.m. in its sanctuary on the second level of its Church-School-Building, 43 Church Street (Route 20,) one half mile east of the only traffic light in the village. Beginning on September 11, The Nassau Reformed Church will preceed its Sunday time together with a “Ministry with the Young” prior to the Call to Worship. Everyone is invited to take part in praise songs and other activities.

Following this time, the young folk will leave the sanctuary and report for Christian Education classes under the direction of Carol Sanford, Director; her assistant, Donna Ortgies; and the teaching staff. All boys and girls are welcomed, with or without their parents at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary and in Christian Ed Classes following the Ministry with the Young.

The Stuyvesant Reformed Church worships at 9 a.m. in its sanctuary at the corner of Church Street and Route 9J in the hamlet of Stuyvesant. Children are welcome in worship at that time and following the sermon for young folk they are encouraged to engage in self study activities related to the children’s story.

NORTH GREENBUSH PUBLIC LIBRARY DISTRICT ELECTION The Board of Trustees of the North Greenbush Public Library invites all registered voters of the Town of North Greenbush to vote in an election to be held on September 8, 2011 from 10 AM to 8 PM at the North Greenbush Public Library in the North Greenbush Municipal Building, Main Avenue, Wynantskill, NY. On September 17th, at Fall Market Day at the Poestenkill Library, you can count on the Poestenkill Town Green being covered with used books in good condition, for all ages, at bargain prices. You can also count on their being various tables with gently used items to appeal to everyone. Among the gift baskets is a movie themed one with videos, snacks and tickets to a local theater and a gardening basket with fall bulbs and appropriate how-to books. Another Civil War themed quilt, this time a throw, will be raffled off. The talented Judy Geise created this masterpiece, which features pictures of the officers and battles of the war on one side and portraits of Generals Lee and Grant on the other side.

Marcia Hopple will oversee a large array of jig-saw puzzles at cheap prizes - something to do on a cold winter night. Best of all, Karen Cardamone will gather the most delicious baked goods donated by the great cooks of Poestenkill. Look for your favorite blueberry pie, chocolate chip cookies and homemade jam.

Put aside a couple of hours between 9AM and 1PM on the 17th to meet on the Town Green, chat with your neighbors, have a little lunch and “shop till you drop!”

1875, Reinhardt Becker purchased the first five acres of what is known as Becker’s Farm. With fruit trees already on the land he began to develop a small fruit and vegetable stand. After purchasing more land in 1894, Reinhardt farmed until his death in 1931. His son Frank Becker continued to farm the same land.

Frank expanded the farm to provide more of the fruits, vegetables and strawberries for the increase in demand. After Frank’s death in 1963, his son Frank Becker Jr. expanded once again introducing sweet corn to the already popular farm stand.

At this point, nearly every possible piece of tillable ground was used for the production of sweet corn and tomatoes. However, in the 70’s and 80’s, retail groceries were able to mass market quality fresh fruits and vegetables at a less expensive price.

Frank Jr. recognized this early and decided it was time to diversify and began to grow bedding plants. This was an immediate success. Frank Jr. began to increase the number of greenhouses on the farm. David returned to the farm in 1989 and immediately began making plans for an expansion project to include a state of the art greenhouse. Frank Jr. and David ran the farm together until Frank Jr.’s death in 1996. Today, the farm has two state of the art greenhouses with computer enhanced environmental controls and computer assisted watering. The total growing area of all greenhouses is currently 75,000 sq ft. with an additional 35,000 sq ft of outside growing area. David and his son Mark are working side by side growing many bedding plants including fall Mums and Aster. We also carry wood pellets and bird seed. Becker’s Farm also hold events.

Murphy, the Adjutant General, announces the recent reenlistment of members of the New York Army National Guard in recognition of their continuing commitment to serve community, state and nation as part of the Army National Guard.

The Red Lions performed during 2006-2010 in the capital region as a group featuring singer/songwriter Eric Margan and a diverse ensemble of musicians. ANNUAL NASSAUFEST On Saturday, September 10th the annual Nassaufest celebration will take place at the Village Commons Park on John Street in the village of Nassau.

Sadly, people can turn to violence, looting, etc., but when people choose to help each other and be friendly during an emergency, it is a testament to the goodness of humanity.

Fortunately, my household was not affected nearly as badly as I had feared. I saw little wind, almost no thunder, and I did not even have a power outage. I was surprised, however, when my basement started to flood. I live in a relatively high elevation, and my basement was under a half inch of water.

Half an inch isn’t much, but my father thought it might get a lot worse.

We made an emergency trip to the hardware store to buy a sump pump. The streets were more or less deserted, and some parts were underwater, but when we got to the hardware store, we found at least two dozen other people in our predicament. There was a pile of pumps at the front of the store, and they were going fast. Not only that, but the pumps needed extra hardware to work with a garden hose. Even finding all of the parts, let alone taking them home and setting them up, seemed daunting.

I half expected people to be fighting over the pumps. However, we found that almost everyone we met was friendly and willing to offer us advice. The employees of the store were very helpful (as they should be), but other shoppers were almost equally helpful. Thanks to their advice, my father and I soon had our hands on everything we needed. Then, we were able to help others find what they needed.

Even while all of our basements were flooding, we were happy to share stories, offer advice, and be courteous to one another.

I was very impressed, and I felt a sense of brotherhood had developed throughout the store. Our basement turned out all right, and I hope that everyone else’s did as well. Not only that, but my faith in humanity grew substantially. ~Paul McKee, APHS 11th Grade Student

REPAIRS OF ROUTE 2 AND OTHER ROADS CRUCIAL FOR EASTERN RENSSELAER CO. Rensselaer County Legislature Vice Chairman Stan Brownell and Legislator Lester Goodermote say repairs of State Route 2 in Grafton and other areas is crucial to eastern Rensselaer County.

Sections of Route 2 were washed away or broken up by the weekend storm and the loss of the road creates a major obstacle for residents and small businesses in the area.

Approximately 1500 feet of the road surface was damaged and needs complete replacement.

“Repairing Route 2 needs to be a top priority because of the importance of the road to local residents and small businesses.

Not having Route 2 in operation means a crucial connection to eastern Rensselaer County is interrupted,” said Goodermote.

Brownell and Goodermote said they were also concerned about the damage to smaller county and town roads that also sustained heavy damage in the storm. Many roads and culverts sustained heavy damage in the storms.

The cost for repairing the smaller roads exceeds the budgets of the small municipalities in eastern Rensselaer County. Both Brownell and Goodermote said outside assistance will be crucial in repairing Route 2 and many other roads in the area.

“Many of these roads and culverts will need repairs that exceed the total highway budget for a municipality for one year. There needs to be a cooperative effort in helping these small towns deal with these problems,” said Brownell.

Brownell and Goodermote said their office has been in contacted with federal officials to seek assistance in repairing the roads and culverts damaged in the area.

TUGBOAT ROUNDUP CANCELLED IN WATERFORD Event Was Scheduled for Sept. 9-11 The annual Tugboat Roundup scheduled for Sept. 9-11, 2011, at the Waterford Harbor on the Erie Canal has been cancelled because of the impacts from Tropical Storm Irene.

High waters and flood damage have hampered navigation along the New York State Canal system. The Hudson River also has high waters.

The Erie Canal remains closed to navigation between Lock 2 in Waterford, Saratoga County, and Lock 19 in Frankfort, Montgomery County. The Champlain Canal remains closed for its entire length. No date has been established on when these canal sections might re-open.

LEGISLATORS APPRECIATIVE OF FEMA INCLUSION OF COUNTY Members of the Rensselaer County Legislature applauded the decision by the federal government today to include Rensselaer County with counties eligible for assistance to individual property owners who suffered damage as part of Hurricane Irene.

The decision follows the announcement that governments would be eligible to seek assistance to recover costs for damages as part of the storm.

Legislators said the individual aid could potentially help farmers, small businesses and property owners who suffered heavy damage from flooding following the storm.

Chairman of the Legislature Martin Reid said pressure from state and local officials helped changed FEMA’s position on the individual aid. Reid credited leaders, including Governor Cuomo, U.S. Senator Gillibrand, Congressman Chris Gibson and Senator Roy McDonald.

“This disaster has brought New Yorkers together to help those affected and displaced by the storm. There has been real cooperation between various levels of government, and great work by emergency responders and many volunteers, which we are eternally grateful for,” said Reid.

“That same cooperative approach helped change FEMA’s course of action, and we appreciate their reconsideration of this issue,” added Reid.

“This is good news for residents, including a number in Poestenkill, Grafton and Troy, and other areas. There are many homeowners who suffered heavy damage that will not be covered by insurance and we hope FEMA can help get them back on their feet,” said Legislator Leon Fiacco.

“Farmers and agricultural businesses were hit hard by this storm and having the opportunity to seek aid may help many farms across the county,” said Majority Leader Ken Herrington.

RENSSELAER CO. SMALL BUSINESSES HURT BY STORM NEED HELP Members of the Rensselaer County Legislature said they will be contacting federal officials to discuss possible assistance for the many small businesses across the county damaged by Hurricane Irene.

Legislators said they have toured a number of small businesses either damaged in the storm or forced to incur great expense to save their business from flooding or related damaged.

Problems faced by businesses include damage to buildings and equipment, costs for clean-up, costs for diverting or removing water or debris and loss of revenue and inventory due to shutdowns and loss of power. Many of the costs faced by the small businesses may not be covered by insurance.

“There are small businesses that could be going under because of the effects of this storm. They need help getting back on their feet,” said Vice Chairman of the Legislature Stan Brownell.

“Without help or disaster relief, some of these businesses may be forced to close in the coming weeks or months, costing the

INFRASTRUCTURE & BRIDGE REPAIR SHOULD BE PRIORITY Members of the Rensselaer County Legislature said repair of bridges that connect Rensselaer County with neighboring counties need to be a priority as repairs are made following Hurricane Irene.

Many state and county roads damaged in the storm will also need significant repairs in the coming weeks and months.

Legislators said a comprehensive review of the several bridges that carry traffic over the Hudson and Mohawk rivers is needed following the heavy flooding and debris caused by the storm.

“Prolonged closure of any of these bridges would cause great harm to our businesses and the daily lives of our residents. We have to make sure these bridges can return to normal use as soon as possible,” said Legislator Mike Stammel.

“Our bridges are already in tough shape. The storm is likely to have caused even structural degradation and repairs will be needed,” said Majority Leader Ken Herrington.

Legislators said they would like to see federal and state disaster relief officials pay close attention to the need to repair bridges and repair roads as they assess damage from the heavy storm.

The Legislature adopted a resolution seeking review of the structural soundness of area bridges following a recent problem with a bridge leading to the South Mall in Albany used by many county residents.

At the same point, a number of state roads have deteriorated and funding to repair county and local roads has been reduced significantly in recent years.

ARE ABORTIONS RIGHT OR WRONG? Letter to the Editor: Everyone has a different view and opinion on everything. Some say stealing is okay while others say it isn’t. Some people say murder is okay, while others think its horrendous. But what is an abortion? Is it a murder? Technically, it is. But in my opinion, I believe abortions are not a horrible thing. Of course, it is horrible to kill a child that hasn’t been born yet, although I believe that an abortion gives girls a second chance. Whether their child was a mistake, or had a horrible disease the parents didn’t want to see their child living with.

Sometimes, not only are the parents doing themselves a favor, but they are doing a favor for their baby. For example, if I ever became pregnant at a young age, and wasn’t prepared to have a baby, I’d like to do anything to save my future, my career, and live a happy and easy life. If I became a teen mom, I would not have the ability to finish school, begin my dream career, and my life would simply not be the same. As for the baby, things wouldn’t be as smooth as well. I wouldn’t be able to give him/her the things I’d like to. I wouldn’t be prepared to take care of a child, go to school, get a job, etc. at a young age. I’d become an adult, before I could ever finish being a teenager. Personally, if I ever were to be in this position, and I, In my heart believed I wouldn’t be able to do this, I would take an abortion into consideration. An abortion is a sad thing, and I’m sure its a difficult decision to make, but it gives you a second chance at life. East Greenbush Dems Set Slate

Phil Malone, Sue Mangold, Toni Murphy, and Rick McCabe have received the endorsement of the Democrat Party as their candidates for reelection in East Greenbush this Fall.

At their nominating caucus on August 22nd, East Greenbush Democrats endorsed the candidates they will be supporting in the upcoming Town Elections on November 8th. Supervisor Rick McCabe, Council Members Phil Malone and Sue Mangold, and Tax Receiver Toni Murphy all received unanimous support for reelection.

Democratic Chair Kim Halloran was pleased with the turnout for the caucus, and says she is enthused about the coming race. Since the Democrats regained a majority on the Town Board in last year’s special election much progress has been made. Major economic strides have been taken with the beginning of the Fed Ex project, the expansion of the NYISO facility, and the settlement of the outstanding water payments from Rensselaer. Just those three accomplishments have brought millions in new revenue into the Town’s coffers. “I feel with the advances in our business community, the upgrading of Public Works services, and the improvements in Parks and Recreation programs our team has a strong record to build on,” Halloran commented.

In addition to their participation in the general election, all of these nominees are pursuing ballot positions in the September 13th Primary Vote as write in candidates for the Independence, Conservative, and Working Family Party Lines.

LYNCH’S RECENT LETTER Letter to the Editor: Miss Lynch asked a question in her recent article on gay marriage. She asked, “How does same sex marriage affect you?” The simple answer is that it infringes on my right to believe the Bible and to publicly state that belief. It infringes on the First Amendment to the Constitution. The powerful gay lobbies do not tolerate any Christian view of marriage at all and wish it to be purged from society. For all the talk of “tolerance”, there is no tolerance of the Christian viewpoint. If you don’t believe that, then just look at the very recent example of “teacher of the year” Jerry Buell who was fired from his position of high school history teacher for over two decades because (on his private facebook page from his private computer on his own time at home) he dared to post that he believes marriage is between one man and one woman.

Look at all the town clerks in NY who had to resign their posts so that they would not have to go against their conscience.

The Bible is very clear in Romans 1 that homosexuality is a perversion in God’s eyes. You are free to not believe the Bible, but this is a doctrine that has not changed in Christendom for over 2000 years. The Bible also is clear that God does not send people to hell for homosexuality. In fact, God is not willing that any should perish (2 Peter 3:9)—that is why he sent his Son Jesus to die for all of our sins. (John 3:16) However, if one chooses to not accept that free gift of forgiveness, then he will go to hell (Romans 6:23)—not for just the sin of homosexuality, but for any sin. Many in our community have benefited from these programs, or have children or grandchildren currently participating on high school sports teams, reaping the rewards that come from participation in athletics.

Consider this (from the Averill Park Central District website): The athletic department saw the elimination of all freshman sports, indoor track and several assistant coaches. These sports and assistant coaching positions can only be considered for reinstatement pending the availability of fund, to be raised through community fundraising efforts.

The Averill Park Central School District supports community efforts to raise funds to reinstate any and all sports programs and coaching positions. Legally, for a sport or coaching position to be reinstated, the entire cost of the program must be donated to the school district prior to the start of the season.

The “2nd Annual Rensselaer Plateau Traverse Hike” will cover two days and more than 30 miles of hiking on trails, old roads and logging roads with a little off-trail bushwhacking. EAST GREENBUSH FIRE COMPANY 17th ANNUAL GOLF SCRAMBLE Each year for the last 16 years the East Greenbush Fire Company has looked forward to sponsoring our very enjoyable golf outing. This year, our 17th year, will be no exception with a great day planned.

The date of the event is Sunday, September 25th, at the Winding Brook Country Club for golf with Check-in beginning at 9AM and tee off at 10PM, lunch will be served at the turn.

2011-2012 SPORTING LICENSES AVAILABLE New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Joe Martens announced that 2011-2012 hunting, fishing, and trapping licenses and Deer Management Permits (DMPs) may be purchased beginning Monday, August 15. Licenses and permits can be purchased at one of DEC’s 1,500 license sales outlets statewide. Sporting licenses can also be ordered by mail or by telephone and via the internet at www.dec.ny.gov. The 2011-2012 sporting licenses are valid beginning October 1, 2011, through September 30, 2012.

Additionally, anyone – not just hunters and anglers – can help feed the hungry by contributing to the Venison Donation Program at all license issuing outlets. Individuals should inform the license sales agent that they want to make a donation of $1 or more to support the program. Since 1999, the Venison Donation Coalition has paid for the processing of more than 330 tons of highly nutritious venison, the equivalent of 2.8 million meals served. ST. MARY’S & SAMARITAN HOSPITALS OFFER HEALTHY HEARTS WALK St. Mary’s Hospital/Seton Health and Samaritan Hospital/Northeast Health, as part of the Healthy Hearts joint initiative, will hold the next “Just Walk With a Doc” event featuring a one-mile community walk with a cardiologist, Saturday, Sept. 10, 8 - 10 a.m., Farmer’s Market, Riverfront Park, Troy.

Dr. Robert Benton, of Capital Cardiology, will offer a short educational talk on cholesterol, and lead participants in the one-mile walk downtown. Participants will be able to ask medical questions in an informal, relaxed atmosphere.

The Just Walk With a Doc program is part of a national initiative designed to educate and encourage physical activity to improve health. Just 30 minutes of walking a day can reduce the risk of heart disease, improve blood pressure and blood sugar, elevate mood, and reduce the risk of osteoporosis, cancer and diabetes.

Another walk is planned Saturday, October 8, from 8 - 10 a.m., at the Farmer’s Market in Troy. The events are open to the public free of charge. Rain or shine. Walkers must sign a liability waiver prior to participating.

PAPSCANEE ISLAND NATURE PRESERVE IN HUDSON VALLEY RIVER RAMBLE The Papscanee Island Nature Preserve will again be among the areas in and around the Hudson River that will be included in the Hudson River Valley Ramble later this month.

The Ramble will be held on Saturday, September 17, at 9:30 a.m. at nature preserves, historic sites and recreational areas along the Hudson River in several counties. The 2010 Ramble marks the twelth year the event is being held at the Preserve.

In recognition of the Ramble, there will be a special guided one-hour walk through the Papscanee Island Nature Preserve.

Members of the public are invited to attend the walk through the Preserve, which is free of charge.

“The Papscanee Island Nature Preserve is one of the most beautiful areas along the Hudson River and we are excited about showing off the Preserve during the Ramble,” said Legislator Alex Shannon, chairman of the Legislature’s Environmental Committee.

The Preserve is located on Staats Island Road, just off State Route 9J. Take a right onto Staats Island Road and proceed over the railroad tracks to the parking area at the entrance of the Preserve.

Set for Friday, September 16, 2011, from 6-8p.m., this event take places at the Spare Time bowling center, located at 570 Columbia Turnpike in East Greenbush. All proceeds benefit the Greenbush YMCA’s Reach Out For Youth scholarship program. SEXUAL ASSAULT PROGRAM SEEKING VOLUNTEERS FOR FALL TRAINING The Sexual Assault and Crime Victims Assistance Program for Rensselaer County at Samaritan Hospital is seeking volunteers interested in training to help answer calls on its sexual assault hotline, beginning Monday, Sept. 12 - Oct. 3, 6 - 9 p.m., room 228, Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing, 2215 Burdett Ave., Troy.

The 10-session training will begin with an introduction to the Sexual Assault and Crime Victims Assistance Program.

Subsequent sessions will explore the psychology of victimization, how to counsel those in crisis, vulnerable populations, domestic violence and stalking, working with adult survivors, and crimes and the courtroom.

DATE OF LEGISLATIVE MEETING MOVED DUE TO PRIMARY DAY The monthly meeting of the Rensselaer County Legislature for September will be moved due to Primary Day, Chairman of the Legislature Martin Reid announced. The Legislature normally meets on the second Tuesday of each month, but in September, the primary is normally held on the second Tuesday. Due to the scheduling of the primary, the legislative meeting will be moved to Wednesday, September 14.

The Legislature established rules requiring a regular monthly meeting to be moved when it falls on Primary Day. In accordance with those rules, the Legislature adopted a resolution officially changing the date of the September meeting to September 14.The September 14 legislative meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. with public presentations, and at 6 p.m. with the agenda, and will be held in the legislative chambers, located on the third floor of the County Office Building, 1600 7th Avenue, downtown Troy.

ASSOCIATED PRESS’S EXTREME LIBERAL BIAS Letter to the Editor: I just witnessed one of the most blatant examples of press bias I’ve ever seen. It was an August 22nd Associated Press article by Charles Babington. I would advise people to Google: “GOP may OK tax increase that Obama hopes to block” for a complete text, but it starts out with: “News flash: Congressional Republicans want to raise your taxes.” It then goes on to completely distort the facts about the expiring, temporary, payroll tax “cut” that Republicans agreed to last year and compares it to the Bush Tax Cuts that the same Republicans fought to keep in place.

The article paints a false picture of Congressional Republicans as hypocrites. The problem is that the tax is not really a tax but probably the only time the term “investment” would be a more accurate label. He’s writing about the 6.2 percent of an employee’s payroll that is designated to his/her social security and was reduced to 4.2% last year. It’s due to go back up January 1st.

The truth is that it was a mandatory reduction in the investment you made in your social security account. You had no say in the matter and most people didn’t know the reduction occurred.

It will result in less money ($120 billion) in that “trust fund” at a time when our government is supposed to be shoring it up.

Just remember the outrage when George Bush proposed giving people voluntary control of 5% of their social security investments in an effort get it out of the hands of Washington’s wild spending politicians.

Why wasn’t this cut big news last year when it was imposed?

That’s a rhetorical question, because when you hear the details you realize it’s another one of Obama’s bad deals that media liberals must either bury or blame on Republicans.

Employees pay half of their social security investment and their employers pay the other half for a total of 12.4% but the employer didn’t get a reduction.

Rensselaer County Legislator Mike Stammel said Rensselaer city officials should immediately schedule a new public hearing to gather comments from residents regarding a proposed asphalt plant.

Stammel said he shares concerns voiced by residents that the project slated for the Port of Renssaler can affect quality of life in nearby neighborhoods. The neighborhoods include the Fort Crailo and South Street areas in Rensselaer and areas in East Greenbush. The project should be redrawn to mitigate any potential impacts to nearby residents and neighborhoods. One way to address those concerns is to invite additional public comment from residents, he said.

“Residents in areas near the project do not believe their concerns are being heard or addressed. The people deserve to be heard on this issue,” said Stammel.

On August 15, Stammel wrote to the city Planning Director stating his concerns regarding the project. Stammel cited concerns about additional traffic on Routes 9&20, also known as Columbia Turnpike, State Route 9J, lower Broadway and Riverside Avenue. With the closure of a state bridge near Route 9J slated for the future, traffic problems could be increased.

“There are real concerns that when the state bridge near Route 9J closes that traffic will be diverted up narrow neighborhood roads for an extended period of time.

The hours of operation for the project, height of the stake, fumes from the project and other factors have raised concerns about impacts to quality of life.

“I have been contacted by many residents who are concerned about this project. They are just as concerned that their worries about this project are not being addressed. An opportunity for public comment is needed,” said Stammel.

EGCSD ANNOUNCES UPCOMING BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETINGS The East Greenbush Central School District has announced its Board of Education meetings for September 2011. The first meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 14th. It will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room of the District’s Administration Center (located in the Genet Elementary School on Route 4 in East Greenbush).

Neighbors were then throwing food over the fence to help these dogs survive.

Buddy is a great dog who gets along great with other dogs. He adores them and loves to play with them. Buddy is approximately 1 yr old. He is a true sweetheart and deserves a home where he is loved and not abandoned.

HISTORY, CRAFTS & ENTERTAINMENT AT CRAILO HARVEST FAIRE On Saturday, September 10th, Crailo State Historic Site and Friends of Fort Crailo present Harvest Faire, an event with something for everyone in the family! This outdoor event is free to the public (a nominal donation is asked to enter the museum exhibit) and is presented in conjunction with the Hudson River Ramble. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held on Sunday, September 11th. The festivities run from 11:00am to 4:00pm.

Crailo’s historic grounds and Hudson River park set the scene for the event, which features both 17th and 18th century reenactors, music, and demonstrations, as well as crafts and games for children. Among the re-enactors are 17th century Dutch settlers, a rope-maker and tinsmith, Native Americans, and an 18th century doctor. Tom Hanford performs as a wandering minstrel around the grounds throughout the day and will offer his own brand of musical storytelling under the tent at 12:30pm and 2:30pm. There will even be a team of oxen for visitors to meet!
