“Fueling a Cure” CAPITAL REGION – John Ray & Sons’ Fueling a Cure program ended its third year with a recent check presentation in the amount of $13,811.33 to the Northeastern New York Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure(r). The amount represents the number of gallons of fuel (over 1.3 million) the company’s Pink Truck (painted in Komen’s signature color) delivered from October 2010 through September 2011. Similar to a moving billboard, the Pink Truck is designed to promote breast cancer awareness throughout the greater Capital Region and to raise funds for education, screenings and treatment in local area communities. Since its inception in 2008, the program has raised a total of $41,848.54 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure. John Ray & Sons also conducted a “Spot the Pink Truck” contest to further promote breast cancer awareness. The participants were entered into a random drawing for a NY Giants gas grill. Glenn Young, General Manager of John Ray & Sons announced the winner of the contest as Vince Sfara of Cropseyville. (P)

No previous experience is necessary. Partners in Public Conversation (www.public-conversation.org) is developing a yearlong Capital District Public Conversation on Joblessness and the Economy to begin in the spring. Training volunteer facilitators once a month throughout the winter is an essential part of this project. Community Giving Fair SARATOGA SPRINGS – In an effort to teach young people about the importance and value of local and global community giving, Youth2- Youth Helping Youth will be hosting its third annual Community Giving Fair on Sat., November 19, 10am3pm, at the United Methodist Church, 175 Fifth Ave, Saratoga Springs. Walking side by side with your child, the alternative holiday market will provide shoppers the opportunity to make donations to their favorite community organization. You can give a financial contribution or have your child donate in-kind items such as a blanket to the Backstretch Employee Service Team or socks for the Domestic Violence shelter. Please refer to www.youthsquared.org to locate items that each agency could use. This year’s event includes a “Youth Challenge: Calling All Kids” grant stimulation effort. Seeking Flea Market/ Craft Fair Vendors SARATOGA SPRINGS – The Saratoga-Wilton Elks Ladies Auxiliary is looking for flea market vendors for an indoor market to be held once a month at the Lodge, 1 Elks Lane, off Rte.9 Maple Avenue, Saratoga, on Sundays from 11am-3:30pm. The cost for an 8-foot table space will be $15 each paid in advance.

Doors will open to set up at 10 am. All merchandise must be cleaned up from your area by 4:30pm and no large garbage left.
