Parade Grand Marshal Announced BALLSTON SPA – The Ballston Spa Business & Professional Association is pleased to announce that the Grand Marshal for its annual Holiday Parade will be Major General Patrick Murphy, leader of the NYS National Guard. The parade will be held Friday evening, December 2 as part of Ballston Spa’s Holiday Weekend celebration. General Murphy assumed duties as the 52nd Adjutant General of NYS on February 15, 2010. He leads 16,000 members of the New York Army and Air National Guard. Prior to that he had served as Director, Joint Staff of the NY National Guard since July 2007, where he was responsible for directing activities of the Joint Force Headquarters - NY, Joint Staff and is the principle advisor to the Adjutant General on domestic operations and joint force issues. His military service began in 1977 when he enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard. Since that time, he has served in company and battalion command positions, as well as several battalion and brigade staff positions. He served in Kuwait from November 2004 to June 2007. Among his many commendations are the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. He and his family reside in Clifton Park. Ballston Spa’s Holiday Parade and Weekend Celebration takes place December 2-4. Parade step off time is 6:30pm, proceeding on Milton Avenue and ending in Wiswall Park on Front Street with Santa lighting the village Christmas tree.
