County Fair Education Exhibit Winners

SARATOGA COUNTY – For the first time, every school district in Saratoga County was represented in the Education Exhibit at the Saratoga County Fair. The first place winner is the Ballston Spa Central School District. Along with trophies and ribbons, they will receive a TV-DVD. The second place winner is the South Glens Falls School District and they will receive a DVD player, trophy and ribbons. Third Place goes to Saratoga Springs School District who will receive a TV along with a trophy and ribbons. In the Collections category, by age group, the first place in the 3-5 year old category is Owen (no last name given) for his bird’s nest collection; in the 6-10 year old category, the first place goes to Dylan Robinson for his collection of 30 hats; and in the 11-15 age category, first place goes to Lilly-Anne Trainer for her porcelain doll collection. 5K Fun Run/Walk for Brachial Plexus Injuries

SARATOGA – The 2nd Annual 5K Fun Run/Walk to raise awareness for the United Brachial Plexus Network will be held on August 6 at the Saratoga State Park Warming Hut. Registration begins at 8am; Fun Run/Walk starts at 9am. Registration is available online at UBPN.org. Registration fees are $20 individual / $40 for a family of four. Proceeds will benefit Brachial Plexus Network, Inc. The term Brachial Plexus Injury (BPI) refers to an injury to the complex set of nerves that control the muscles of the fingers, hand, arm, and shoulder. The Brachial Plexus can be damaged in a number of different ways including accidents involving high impact conditions but most brachial plexus injuries are sustained during birth from excessive force being applied to the baby’s neck and head resulting in stretching and/or tearing of the Brachial Plexus nerves.

Proper labor management would prevent a majority of these preventable obstetrical injuries.
