CORINTH FREE LIBRARY to Host Battles of the Civil War with Greg Baker The Library invites the public to attend a two part program discussing two key battles of the Civil War. The program features teacher Greg Baker of the Corinth Central School and features images. The program will start on Tues., April 5 with the Battle of Antietam and conclude Tues., April 12 with the Battle of Gettysburg. Both programs are at 7pm at the Corinth Free Library. This program is made possible by a gift awarded to the library through the We the People Bookshelf national grant project. The library was one of 4,000 libraries across the country selected to receive a We the People Bookshelf grant, which provided free hardcover editions of 17 classic books on the theme of “A More Perfect Union�. The library also received bonus materials, including a DVD edition of “The Civil War,� the award winning documentary by Ken Burns. The grant was awarded by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) in cooperation with the American Library Association. Dear Family and Friends, Our dear friend and sister, Kim (Gorham) Zilm, was in a tragic skiing accident on February 6, 2011. Kim, 38, lives in Lake George with husband Mike and two daughters Morgan, 11 and Alli, 7. They share a love of the outdoors and enjoy skiing, boating, camping, hiking and snowmobiling in the Adirondack Mountains. She shattered her T12 vertebrate, suffered broken ribs and collapsed a lung. Kim was in Albany Medical Center for 10 days and underwent two surgeries to repair her broken spine. Due to the severity of the fall, she has been diagnosed with a complete spinal cord injury that has left her paralyzed from the waist down. Kim is presently at The Kessler Institute of Rehabilitation in New Jersey. There is still a long road ahead in her recovery and the Zilms face a tremendous financial burden. By one estimate, the average first year expenses for someone suffering paraplegia is over $300,000. Although Kim has insurance coverage, there are many items that it will not cover. These include modifications to their home in order to make it wheelchair accessible, a modified vehicle, rehabilitation equipment and more. To assist with these costs, a fundraising campaign has been established with NTAF. NTAF is a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for more than 28 years and the catastrophic injury community for more than 10 years. NTAF provides fiscal accountability and donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.
