Social Knitting for Social Concerns‌.. The Knit-Wits, a social knit/crochet group from St. James Episcopal Church in Lake George, are challenging themselves to knit and crochet at least 300 wool caps for troops from the Capitol region in the NY area by November 2011. These caps will be distributed to the men and women who will be deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan in September, October and November of 2011. If you are interested in participating in this challenge you can knit or crochet a cap and donate it to the group, or you can donate 100% wool worsted weight yarn so that members of the group can work it into caps. We will be taking the first package with as many caps as we can knit or crochet by the end of September, 2011, followed by trips in October and November to deliver the rest of the caps before the men and women are deployed. The Commanderʟs office at the Guard base will distribute the caps to the lowest ranking soldiers first and then progress up through the ranks until the caps run out. You can get copies of the patterns that we are using by contacting St. Jamesʟ Episcopal Church, Lake George NY at stjameslg@verizon.net or by calling the church 518 668-2001. The group meets to knit or crochet and socialize on most Tuesday evenings at 4:30PM to 5:30PM at Cafe Vero in Lake George Village on Canada Street across from the Post Office Thank you! We appreciate your help and the men and women in the armed services really love that touch of home.
