Fall Harvest Craft Fair ALBANY – The Shaker Heritage Society in Albany, will host their Fall Harvest Craft Fair on September 10 & 11 from 10am-4pm.

Hospital Volunteers Honored; Gift Shop Renamed

TROY – Seton Health recently hosted its annual Volunteer Luncheon, honoring the many volunteers who give their time and commitment to the organization. Salvatore Sestito, a volunteer in the EKG/EEG department, was named the 2010 Volunteer of the Year. Rose Cronin was awarded the Volunteer Lifetime Achievement Award and had the hospital gift shop named in her honor. Sestito, of Latham, has been a volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital since 1986. He works five days a week assisting patients and the EKG/EEG staff. Cronin, of Troy, has been a volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital since 1978, devoting over 83,500 hours. She served as the manager of the hospital gift shop for 22 years and now sells raffle tickets in the hospital lobby. Cronin has raised over $100,000 in raffle funds for the Seton Health Auxiliary, which has been used to purchase new state-of-the art equipment. Maureen Noonan, President of the Seton Health Auxiliary, announced that the hospital gift shop would now be named Rose’s Gift Gallery. (P)

ALBANY – The Albany Institute of History & Art will be opening “Albany and the Civil War: Medicine on the Home and Battle Fronts” on Saturday, September 3, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the war. The exhibition will focus on the medical concerns and necessities of the Civil War by examining the role of the 1864 Albany Relief Bazaar and the letters, field notes, and photographs of Albany brothers Garrett Vander Veer and Dr. Albert Vander Veer, who served as dean of Albany Medical College from 1895 and 1904. Also featured will be silver loving cup presented to Dr. Vander Veer by his students in 1907. 9th Annual Mohawk Towpath Duathlon CLIFTON PARK / HALFMOOON – The Mohawk Towpath Scenic Byway Coalition is seeking sponsors for the 9th Annual Mohawk Towpath Duathlon, which will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2011. The Duathlon is an athletic event, involving a 2-mile run, a 16-mile bike ride and a 2-mile run to the finish line along the scenic, rural roads of Clifton Park and Halfmoon.

LATHAM – The Friends of Pruyn House will celebrate the 28th annual “Old Fashioned Sunday” at the Pruyn House, 207 Old Niskayuna Rd., on Sunday, September 11, from noon-4pm.

The public is invited to this Free event, which will be held rain or shine. The historic House built in 1830 will be open for touring as well as the carriage house, one-room schoolhouse, tool museum, Buhrmaster Barn and gardens. RENSSELAER – The Hendrick Hudson Male Chorus will begin its Fall 2011 season on September 12 at 7:30pm.
