Mohawk Valley Chorus Pops Concert BALLSTON SPA – “At Last,” the 2013 Pops Concert of Mohawk Valley Chorus, will be presented at 7pm on Saturday, March 9, at the Ballston Spa Baptist Church and at 3pm on Sunday, March 10, at United Presbyterian Church in Amsterdam. A highlight of the program, featuring a variety of music, will be Jeffery L. Ames’ “In Remembrance,” opening the second half of the concert. This was selected by MVC director David Rossi as a special memorial to the victims of the Sandy Hook elementary school tragedy in Newtown, CT, especially Principal Dawn Hochsprung, who had close family ties to Broadalbin. The tribute will follow performances by two groups, the Sentimentalists, a sextet of chorus members, and the MVC Youth Chorale, directed by Margaret Lazarou. Mohawk Valley Chorus, which rehearses in Amsterdam, is made up of 100 vocalists from throughout the area. Members come from Fulton, Montgomery, Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga, Schoharie and Hamilton counties. Tickets for the concert are available, in advance, from chorus members, or at the door of both performances. General admission: $12; Senior Citizens & Students: $9. Children, 12 and under, are admitted for free when accompanied by an adult. Doors open 30 minutes before curtain time. (P)
Veteran Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Program SARATOGA COUNTY – The Saratoga County Board of Supervisors is proud to announce a new program aimed at Veterans who are interested in having a mentoring relationship with another Veteran. This program aims to match Veterans with other Veterans who have similar interests, goals, or life experiences. If you are someone who is attempting to get re-acclimated to civilian life, and looking for some extra help with the transition we would love to talk to you! Our mission is to design, implement and evaluate a Saratoga County based peer-to-peer support program for veterans who are experiencing post-traumatic stress symptoms. We do this by providing: outreach, education, access to local resources, peer to peer relationships, a sense of hope, help with building resiliency, tools for family and community connectedness, and access to suicide prevention/intervention measures. Please call 518-884-4999 to get connected. This is a FREE program, and ALL Veterans are welcome. If you are someone who is interested in mentoring another Veteran and you think you have time and experience to offer, please call 518884-4999 as well, and we will be happy to speak with you. Training is free and appropriate reimbursement is available. (P)
