Bulletin Board 7th Annual Palm Sunday Weekend Bake Sale SCHENECTADY – St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, located at 600 State Street, (corner of State and Lafayette Streets), Schenectady, is sponsoring its Seventh Annual Palm Sunday Weekend Bake Sale on Saturday, March 23 from 4-5:30pm and Sunday, March 24 from 7:30-11:30am in the vestibule of the Church. Clearwater TU Flea Market ALBANY – The Clearwater Trout Unlimited Flea Market will be held on March 23 from 9am-1pm at its New Location at the Albany Ramada Plaza Hotel, 3 Watervliet Ave. Ext., Albany. The flea market is a great place to both sell excess gear and tying material, books, and any other items you want to clear out, or to buy these items at a bargain price. STEM Education Teacher Workshop SCHENECTADY – Thursday, March 21, 5-8pm at miSci (formerly Schenectady Museum), 15 Nott Terrace Heights, Schenectady. Free! Join miSci and San Francisco’s Exploratorium for Engaging Students’ Science and Engineering Practices, a workshop of inquiry and exploration. The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) offer a vision for K-12 science literacy in which successfully understanding science content and performing science practices are equally important. In this workshop, staff from the Exploratorium Teacher Institute will facilitate innovative classroom activities designed to bring the authentic practices of science and engineering to your students. All activities will involve the use of easy to find, inexpensive, recyclable materials. Content is appropriate for middle and high school level learners but open to all. ROTTERDAM JCT. – Tricia Shaw, Education Coordinator at Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site, will present her recent research on the interconnections between Schenectady and Schoharie families with Fort Hunter and Queen Anne’s Chapel on Saturday, March 30 at 2pm at the Mabee Farm Historic Site’s George Franchere Education Center, 1100 Main St., Rotterdam Junction. Shaw will trace the 300 year history of one acre in particular that passed through five different families, most importantly, the Mabee Family and also saw the construction of Fort Hunter, the building of the Erie Canal, a 19th century tenant farm and a multitude of flooding disasters including Hurricane Irene. $5. Bulletin Board Monday Noon Program SCHENECTADY – The Friends of Schenectady County Public Library will offer a series of Monday Noon programs at the Central library, 99 Clinton Street in Schenectady. On March 18, Dr. Tina Maxian, Schenectady Regional Orthopedic Associates, will give a talk entitled “Broken Bones and How we Repair Them”. The programs are held in the McChesney Room, beginning at 12pm. All are open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lunch; beverages are available for a nominal fee. (P)

Employment Lecture Designed for Veterans GLENVILLE – The Town of Glenville is pleased to present a lecture designed for our Armed Forces Veterans entitled, “How to Get a Job” on March 23rd from 11:30am – 1:30 pm at the Glenville Senior Center, 32 Worden Rd., Glenville. This effort, spearheaded by Councilman Sid Ramotar (a veteran) is designed to help our returning servicemen and service women navigate the challenging job market in our area. Lecture will be given by Lester R Nathan - CEO and Senior Group Consultant at RESULTS Management & Marketing, Inc. Through the Town of Glenville, and in cooperation with the Glenville Senior Center, this lecture is offered free of charge to veterans. For over 50 years, Lester Nathan (a veteran) has successfully built, managed and operated numerous businesses. Retiring after 30 years as CEO of his own chain of retail stores, he became a turn-around consultant working with others in over 24 different industries. Whitney Book Corner Sale SCHENECTADY – The Whitney Book Corner, 600 Union Street, Schenectady, will hold a sale of paperback books thru March 17. The books are 3/$1. The store is open seven days a week: Monday-Friday, 10am4pm (Thursday until 7pm); Saturday, 10:30am-3pm; and Sunday, 1:30-3:30pm. The Whitney Book Corner sells quality used books at reasonable prices as well as used audio books, records, CDs and DVDs. It is operated by the Friends of Schenectady County Public Library. A Festival of Hymns SCHENECTADY – A Festival of Hymns, directed by Dr. Aaron David Miller, Music Director and Organist at House of Hope Presbyterian Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 603 State Street, Schenectady, on Sunday, March 17, at 3pm. The festival will include many hymns – both familiar and new - for the audience to sing, and there will be readings and solo artists as well. Dr. Miller is renowned for his performances as a concert organist, his many compositions for organ, chorus and orchestra, and for his improvisational skills. Lenten Luncheons Continue REXFORD – Lenten luncheons are sponsored by the Faith Baptist Church, 11 Glenridge Road, Rexford and include a special speaker each week. The public is encouraged to attend these luncheons, which will continue weekly, each Wednesday until March 27. Lunch is served at noon, with a suggested donation for the meal. West Point Dress Parade SCOTIA – Glenville Senior Center presents West Point Dress Parade, lunch at the Hotel Thayer, and a guided tour of West Point on Sat., April 27. West Point Academy welcomes you to view the famous U.S. Military Academy Cadet Review. These reviews, or parades, are part of West Point tradition. Dr. Khyber Khan Joins Ellis Medical Group SCHENECTADY – Ellis Medicine is proud to announce the addition of Dr. Khyber Khan to Ellis Medical Group. Mohawk Valley Chorus Scholarship Competition AMSTERDAM – Mohawk Valley Chorus’ annual scholarship competition for area high school juniors and seniors is now open. All musically inclined students living in MVC’s seven-county area are eligible for the $500 award, which may be used to further the winner’s musical education or for any other desired purpose. The winner must perform one or two numbers at the beginning of the chorus’ annual classics concert at 3pm on Sunday, May 19, at Amsterdam High School. Each applicant must submit a CD of two songs (one should be a classical piece, the other a lighter, more modern number); three letters of refer-

Town of Glenville Tax Collection Sites GLENVILLE – The Town of Glenville has announced that all 2013 town, county, school and water taxes will be processed at the Glenville Municipal Center, 18 Glenridge Rd. In 2012, 1st National Bank of Scotia assisted with the collection of taxes, but based on proposed costs for bank services in 2013, the town has determined that an in-house collection will be the most cost-effective process. Town of Glenville residents are asked to plan on paying all taxes for 2013 by mail or in-person at the Glenville Municipal Center, or by utilizing the secure web portal on the town’s website, www.townofglenville.org. 2013 Acoustic Coffee House Shows FULTONVILLE – All free Acoustic Coffee House from 6:30-10pm, held downstairs of the Fultonville Methodist Church on Montgomery Street in Fultonville. $1,000 Scholarships Available GLENVILLE – The Scotia-Glenville Seniors will again offer $1,000 scholarships to two area high school seniors who have demonstrated good scholarship and community service, with special emphasis on service to Scotia and Glenville seniors. High school seniors who live in the town of Glenville, regardless of their school affiliation, may request an application by writing to the Glenville Senior Center, 32 Worden Rd., Glenville, NY 12302; ATTN: Scholarship Committee. After The Fire is in Dire Need of New Volunteers SARATOGA COUNTY – After The Fire is a non-profit organization that helps residents of Saratoga County who have suffered a loss due to fire. After being paged by Fire Control, After The Fire members respond to the fire scene to provide the family members with clothing, gift cards, personal care items, a night’s stay at a participating hotel/motel, Red Cross referral, informational material, emotional support-whatever is needed to help the family through an extremely traumatic situation. Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday at 7pm as follows: February, March, October & November at Eagle Matt Lee Fire House on Washington St. in Ballston Spa; April, May, June & September meetings are held at Halfmoon Town Hall on Harris Rd. in Halfmoon.
