Adirondack Hot Air Balloon Festival Announces Special Shapes: 100’ Tall Panda Bear Event Debut And Super FMG GLENS FALLS, NY – The 39th Annual Adirondack Hot Air Balloon Festival will host two new special shape balloons for the first time at this year’s event. “PANDY, the world’s largest Panda Bear will be making its first appearance this year. The 100 foot tall Pandy, hails from Kilgore, Texas and is owned by Jerry and Shelley Caraway. Mark MacSkimming will be piloting PANDY at this year’s event. SUPER FMG will also be making his debut at this year’s event. FMG is the mascot balloon for the Festival De Montgolfieres DE Gatineau, (24th Annual Gatineau Balloon Festival), which was created with help of our longtime organizer, Walter Grishkot. SUPER FMG joins us this year as a tribute to Walter who passed away earlier this year. Super FMG is a brand new balloon this year, designed in Brazil and built and England. The event will kick off on Thursday, September 22 at 4:30 p.m. in Crandall Park, Glens Falls, NY. The opening ceremonies will include a tribute to Mr. Grishkot followed by the first balloon launch, Yankee Sunrise, which will drape a large American Flag from its basket. An additional 15 plus balloons will launch shortly thereafter. On Friday, activities will move to Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport in Queensbury, NY with an evening launch of 65-70 balloons as well as numerous other weekend filled activities including a static aircraft display, craft fair, bands, and numerous food vendors. Saturday will include 2 balloon flights, 6:30am, and 5:00pm. Sunday morning’s airport launch will be a mass ascension, entitled “Walter’s Flight when 8590 balloons rise to the sky simultaneously from the Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport. New this year, Sunday evening’s launch will return to Crandall Park to close the weekend with a flight of 20 balloons. A complete schedule of events is attached and can also be found on our website. For more information, please visit our website: www.adirondack balloonfest.org, or contact us at adirondackballoonfest@gmail.com or by calling either Mark Donahue 518-421-0627, 518-222-4593 or Laura Critcher 518-605-2996.
