Preston Doll, Graduate Student, Oklahoma State University Geology, May 2013 "The benefits of working in my field of study while going to school are continuing even past graduation. By working I was able to take theories from the classroom and immediately apply them in industry. This experience set me apart from other graduates in my field and opened up many opportunities I’m sure wouldn’t have been available to me otherwise. If it had not been for the teachers in and out of the classroom and support from Career Services, I would not have been as prepared to successfully advance to the next level in this increasingly competitive field."

Survey information can be an important factor when selecting a major or accepting a job offer. WSU students use this information to research career paths and to learn what first-year professionals are earning.

How do we collect the data? A link to the survey is emailed to each graduating student. If the survey has not been completed three months after graduation, a paper survey is mailed. Recent graduates are contacted by phone in a final attempt to collect data. Not all graduates choose to participate or to provide salary amounts for the GSS report.

How do we use the survey data? Career Services gathers this information to help students with career decisions. We also provide salary information upon request to employers who want to make fair and competitive offers to Wichita State University graduates. Additionally, the various colleges request information as part of the accreditation process. The Graduating Student Survey Report is a highlight of the survey findings. To view more detailed information go to wichita.edu/career.

GRADUATING STUDENT SURVEY

The Graduating Student Survey (GSS) is an exit survey of bachelor’s degree recipients. The survey collects first destination information on employment.
