Push Play 2014 Fine Arts Series 2015
Push Play 2014 Fine Arts Series 2015
We bring the same artists to Central Minnesota that metro folks pay big money to see. In fact, I am more than a little confident that our offerings rival those of most major metropolitan areas, and cost a lot less. These artists often stay in our community for an extended period of time, going out to schools, performing at the St. Cloud VA, or teaching master classes here on campus. The Fine Arts Series exists to make life an even richer experience here in Central Minnesota and we all know we’ve got it pretty darn good already. The artists who visit us leave a part of themselves here and we are all richer for those gifts. I hope the upcoming season of performances inspires and entertains you and leaves you thinking “I can’t believe I just saw that!”
Brian Jose, Executive Director of Fine Arts Programming Photo by Adam Konczewski
We can’t wait for you to join us! The Fine Arts Series was born out of the Benedictine Value of Hospitality. We believe your experience, from your first encounter at the box office to the moment you take your seat, should feel as though you’re visiting a trusted friend.
That’s why you’ll find that we do things a little differently: • No ticket surcharges! The price you see is the price you’ll pay - we’ll never charge you an online or “convenience” fee.
• Lower Ticket Prices! See world-class artists for as little as $17 for some shows. Student/Youth tickets are always $10.
• We’re close to home! You don’t have to travel to New York, or even to the Twin Cities, to see your favorite artists - we bring them to you!

What our friends in the community are saying...
We all know the Fine Arts Series at CSB/SJU brings world-class artists to our stage...
Dick & Mimi Bitzan But it also brings the performers into our neighborhoods and into our lives. Storytellers and actors work with local veterans to help them create and perform personal stories. Hip-hop artists teach youth in correctional facilities to dance in ways that express respect, confidence, and hope. Dancers introduce children with special needs to an environment that enables them to move and interact in ways they never have before. The performers transform all of us by inviting us to take risks, to laugh, sing, dance, reflect, learn, create, and most importantly, to PLAY! 3

Khumar On tour as part of Center Stage
With its propulsive, furious sound, Khumariyaan has reawakened the live music scene in Peshawar, Pakistan, the ancient crossroads through the Khyber Pass whose contemporary culture is under attack from within and from without. Built around traditional instruments, the lute-like Pashtoon rubab is the meeting point for this hyper-folk jam quartet. It intertwines with the djembe-like zerbaghali and Pushtoon sitar. Underpinning these instruments with driving acoustic guitars, Khumariyaan’s rolling pulse and richly layered sound builds to frenzied intensity. It’s an addictive and accessible pleasure that’s ushering in a new era for this region’s eclipsed music. Tickets: $20, Senior $17, Faculty/Staff $10, Student/Youth $10

This show is for you if you’re inspired by world music and the art forms of other cultures.
