C

onvent of the Sacred Heart, Greenwich participates in a student exchange program with other Sacred Heart schools in the United States and around the world. The program complements the educational experience at Sacred Heart, Greenwich and allows students to experience, firsthand, the breadth of a Sacred Heart education. It is meant for students who have demonstrated consistently sound academic performance. Students learn independence, confidence in their abilities to thrive away from home, and a new appreciation for the Network of Sacred Heart Schools and our educational mission.

Where in the world do Greenwich students go? Our students have studied in Australia, Canada, England, France, Latin America, Mexico and Spain. In the U.S., they have attended Sacred Heart schools in California, Florida, Louisiana and Texas. Exchange is limited to schools in the Network of Sacred Heart Schools and affiliated international schools.

What do they study? Students spend two to ten weeks during the academic year studying at another Sacred Heart school. They may follow regular courses, as in their home school, or be involved in special programs at the host school. They are expected to keep up with their class work at Sacred Heart, Greenwich.

Network Guidelines Academic Credits Grades: The home school is responsible for making arrangements for grades with the host school. Specialized program or consideration: Credit or other arrangements for special programs or projects will be mutually agreed upon by the home and host schools.

Evaluation • The host school sends an academic evaluation of the student to the home school. • The student produces a portfolio (written or digital) and photo journal of her exchange experience. • The exchange coordinator of the host school writes an evaluation of the student’s exchange experience.

Do students get the same education on exchange? All efforts are made to match the courses as closely as possible. Colleges consider the exchange experience a great plus on the transcript.

Where do students stay? Students live with host families or stay at Sacred Heart boarding schools. It is understood that the students agree to abide by the school and home regulations of the host school and family.

What about expenses? Students and their families are responsible for paying for trans足 portation to and from the location of the exchange, and for spending money for incidentals and gifts. Sacred Heart, Greenwich pays the tuition for an exchange student. The host school will cover the cost of attending the school, and host families will be responsible for room and board. All boarding school fees of an exchange student are paid by the host school.

If students are selected for exchange, should they expect to host exchange students in return? Yes, but families will not be asked to host students while their daughters are away. Whenever possible, students who go on exchange should be willing to host students who may come to Greenwich.

How can I find more information about a school? You can learn more about schools in the U.S. and international network by visiting the Sacred Heart schools website, www.sofie.org.
