Alumnae Au Courant January 2017

Swimming Reunion On Saturday, December 17 we welcomed home alumnae who swam at Sacred Heart Greenwich for a special reunion at the pool. The swimming facility recently underwent significant renovations including enhanced seating for spectators, a new Colorado Timing System with electronic touch-pads at the end of each lane, digital pace clocks, a scoreboard, and an underwater sound system. The renovations were generously underwritten by a Sacred Heart family. To see pictures click here.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Prayer Service We invite you to celebrate the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at our prayer service on Friday, January 13, at 10 a.m. in the Athletic Center. We look forward to the return of the popular GospelKnights singers and the Vision Steppers, and welcome our special guest speaker, Civil Rights Activist Joanne Bland. All are welcome to attend. Mrs. Joanne Bland is a sought-after speaker who participated in the civil rights movement as a child and teenager. She marched in "Bloody Sunday" and "Turn Around Tuesday," and on the historic march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. Mrs. Bland will share her experiences in the struggle against “Jim Crow laws and will speak on her continuing involvement in human rights work. To watch the prayer service live, tune into the King Street Chronicle's Facebook page or click here.

Return on Investment: Why an Independent School Education is Worth the Cost We hope you'll join us on Thursday, February 9th at 8:30 am in the McLaughlin Gallery to hear from Douglas Lyons, executive director of the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools. He will speak on the topic: Return on Investment: Why an Independent School Education is Worth the Cost. Independent schools demonstrate a variety of organizing principles (single-sex, coeducational, secular and religious, boarding and day, etc.). They share a mission-driven, student-centered, non-bureaucratic model. This model has distinct advantages for students over the increasingly compliance-driven model that characterizes public education in the No Child Left Behind era. Is an independent school education worth the cost? This presentation will offer information that may assist parents in answering that question. This event is free and open to the public.
