Alumnae Au Courant March 2018
Margaret Brennan '98 named Face the Nation moderator Congratulations to Margaret Brennan '98on her new role as moderator for CBS Face the Nation. Margaret assumed the permanent role on Sunday, February 25, and will continue to serve as the network’s senior foreign affairs correspondent. “Face the Nation has long been the place that myself and viewers across the country rely on to make sense of it all by cutting through the noise to break down what matters and how it affects our daily lives. I am deeply honored and excited to carry on Face the Nation’s tradition of helping provide this crucial context to our viewers,” said Margaret, who was Sacred Heart's commencement speaker in 2015. Margaret recently spoke to the Greenwich Time about how Sacred Heart influenced her career development. "Days spent walking by the student rec room slogan 'To whom much is given, much is expected' certainly helped. That concept is what the school was based around — model UN, theater, community service, giving back,” Brennan said. “From the moment I walked in there, I felt like these girls were like me.” To read more click here or here.
Winter Sports Recap After an impressive fall sports season featuring two Fairchester Athletic Association Championships, our winter sports teams also excelled.
Varsity Squash took home second place in the FAA with a record of 13-4. The team made its first Division I appearance at the High School National Championships since 2009, taking 14th place, and then went on to finish sixth overall at the New England Class A Championships. JV Squash boasted its best-ever record, finishing 8-1 in match play and 13th in Division IV at the High School National Championships. Plus, Thirds Squash went undefeated in match play during the team’s inaugural season. At the Middle School level, both teams had incredible seasons on the national stage. The Middle School Squash A Team took home second place in Division 1 at the US Squash National Championship and the Middle School Squash B Team took home first place in Division 2 at Nationals!
Varsity Basketball battled hard to a regular season record of 8-10 before taking out Greens Farms Academy in the opening round of the FAA Tournament. Despite coming back from a sizeable deficit at halftime, Varsity Basketball fell to #2 seed Hamden Hall during the semifinals in a true heartbreaker, 46-49. At the JV Basketball level, the young team took big strides over the course of the season while implementing the system run at the varsity level and finished fourth in the JV FAA Tournament hosted at Sacred Heart Greenwich. The Middle School teams implemented the system as well, with 7/8A Basketball going 10-1 and earning a third place finish in the Greenwich Town Tournament. 7/8B Cubs and Stripes both fought tirelessly throughout the season against challenging opponents. Rounding out the program, MS 6 Basketball went undefeated at 12-0!

Daily Lenten Reflection Series
Each day during Lent, in preparation for Easter, an email containing a brief reflection has been sent to the Sacred Heart Greenwich community. The reflections were written by students, parents, alumnae, faculty, and staff, all of whom offer their own perspective on how God speaks to them through the scriptures and how they negotiate the frontiers (challenges) of their lives. St. Philippine turned to God for strength and overcame boundaries she never expected to face with the unyielding determination to serve. This Lent we invite you to deepen your prayer practice, unpack the scripture readings with us and contemplate God’s call for you.
