OUR DIRECTOR Bronwyn Bennett is the Director of the Chilton Dance Centre and the creator of the new programme – Chilton Ballet Academy. As a young person, Bronwyn simply wanted to dance. Bronwyn considers herself extremely lucky to have trained with incredibly talented and inspiring teachers, especially Joye Lowe, Lynne Harrison and Valerie Bayley each of whom had a huge influence on her dancing and her teaching. Bronwyn performed in countless performances as a student as well as competitions throughout New Zealand. She was the inaugural winner of PACANZ Young Performer and, at 15, was awarded her Royal Academy of Dance Solo Seal. Bronwyn is the current Patron of PACANZ. Bronwyn kept up with her formal schooling, achieving excellent academic results throughout secondary school but university did not appeal. Her teacher and mentor, Lynne Harrison, asked her to teach in a newly acquired studio in Upper Hutt; thus beginning what was going to be a career in teaching. It was not long before Bronwyn opened her own school teaching Ballet and Jazz - a school that developed and grew over more than 20 years until an offer came to join the Chilton Dance Centre. Initially, Bronwyn joined the Dance Centre as a senior teacher of Classical Ballet but, after two years, she became Director of Chilton Dance Centre. She had a strong desire and focus to develop the Dance Centre further and offer students the opportunity to experience a range of dance styles taught by passionate teachers specialising in their favourite dance genre. It is a dream come true for Bronwyn. With the development of the cba, future dancers will now have the opportunity to complete their academic qualifications while training seriously in Ballet. The secret to the success of Bronwyn’s students is that she nurtures talent and will go above and beyond to prepare them for the world of Dance. Her vast knowledge and exemplary teaching skills make her the perfect person to develop this programme for those who are serious about a career in Ballet. This programme is set for success with Bronwyn at the helm.
