Often times in fitness, we set out to embark on this grand journey of achievement that will one day have us proclaiming from the mountain tops, “I did it! I made it! I’ve arrived!!” The picture of this happy ending is crystal clear, yet the starting point is where we tend to have a more blurred vision of things. It is hard sometimes to accept our present circumstance and even harder to acknowledge that there is work to be done. It is in that moment though, that the decision must be made to take that all important first step in becoming our ultimate selves. It is not certain if Shakespeare was a Trainer as well as a world-class poet, but what is certain is that he understood the importance of self-awareness. As it pertains to fitness, understanding our true starting point involves consulting with someone that understands the body and can relate to what exercises are needed to address any areas of concern. A Certified Trainer can show you that it isn’t necessarily about where we are, but more importantly, what we need to do to get to where we’re going. Someone once said, “Once you make the decision to do something, the universe will move out of your way.” Well, that individual must not have ever felt the soreness of doing a leg day or had to endure the physical hardships of a three day total body regiment. While, these are some of the obstacles that will inevitably rear their ugly heads along the way on our fitness journeys, they can’t be seen as insurmountable walls that are impossible to climb. Rather, they are merely stepping stones on the way to greatness. Now, not unlike any other grueling task, it is better to go about the journey with a group of like-minded people. Friends or work out buddies that are just as committed to beating those hard days and overcoming those obstacles, are great resources to have. More importantly, actually working together side by side in a group setting, is the best way to stay motivated and on task to reaching that summit.

Think about Estate Planning for Your New Year’s Resolution The New Year is a chance to reflect on the past and to make changes to the future. What better way than preparing your family for the inevitable, “Old Age and Death.” These words are feared from among the strongest and or richest person to the poorest and or weakest individual. We all share this common fact, that one day we will age and no longer be here. With this said, why not put on the top of our New Year’s Resolution List, “Get a Will or Trust prepared and make the process easier on your family. What is a will? A will is a written document, signed and witnessed, which sets out instructions for the disposition of your estate only at the time of or after the event of your death. What is a trust? A trust is a set of instructions which come into effect as soon as the trust is created which means that it provides property management during your life and/ or after your death. My best comparison is a trust is almost like a company, one you manage while your alive, and if your become incapacitated or die, it can be managed by your successors according to your instructions.

Differences between a will and a trust Apart from the main difference that a will comes into effect only after death whereas a trust is in effect during lifetime and after death, there are many more things to think about when deciding between the two estate planning tools. Here is a list of some of the more significant differences which a trust attorney can explain in further detail: •

A will and the property in the will is subject to the probate process; a trust and assets in the trust are not subject to the probate process. However, assets in both plans may be subject to federal estate tax. Because a trust does not go through the probate process it may remain a private affair; a will goes through probate and therefore it becomes accessible to the public. A will allows you to assign a guardian for your minor children; a trust allows you to control when and how your minor children, grandchildren and other dependents access your trust assets. Often, the costs to set up and manage a trust can be much higher than setting up a will. The assets in a will do not need to be managed; a trust can only plan for assets which have actively

been transferred into the trust, therefore the assets in a trust need to be actively managed. The actions of a trustee are not usually overseen by a court; the actions of an executor of a will are court supervised through the probate process. Because a will is only effective after death, it does not allow for instances where the person becomes incapacitated through injury or illness or old age; a trust provides a plan for the possibility of incapacity.

Cops and Kids Event

Margate Police Department held their annual Cops and Kids event on Saturday December 10, 2016. Walmart hosted the event at their store in Margate, 105 children were treated to holiday shopping. Each child received a Walmart gift card to spend in the store and were treated to shopping with a Margate Police Officer. Officers said the real treat was seeing the holiday spirit on the kidsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; faces while they shopped.

A reduced number of giant migrating contractions in the colon has been reported in patients with slowtransit constipation and might contribute to symptoms in some patients with IBS and constipation. Alternatively, accelerated intestinal transit, characterized by an increased number of giant migrating contractions, is observed in some patients with diarrheal disorders such as diarrhea-predominant IBS. The frequency of regular migrating motor complexes is influenced by the frequency of food intake, quality of sleep, and stress. Acute stress is associated with increased parasympathetic output to the small and large intestine and reduced vagal output to the stomach. Even though they have not been studied outside the setting of bacterial overgrowth, these alterations in gut transit are likely to have a major impact on the composition and organizational structure of the gut microbiota in different regions of the GI tract.

So before solid evidence based treatment recommendations become available, what should we do to enhance our odd to benefit from theses ground breaking, game changing disease prevention/ treatment regarding the human microbiome? It all come down to what I have been proposing all along. Following the known beneficial factors by eating “clean” (plenty of vegetable and fruit, i.e. prebiotics), and exercising regularly to enhance the native gut microbiome. In addition, routine practicing of parasympathetic enhancing activities such as establishing a good sleeping hygiene, regular meditation and yoga practice, and occasional acupressure therapy. Also, following the medical guidelines regarding reduce excess antibiotics use. And as an additional safety measure; taking daily probiotics either through diet (my preferenceGreek yogurt, Kefir) or probiotics supplement. Despite the mounting evidence suggests a deep connection between the gut microbiota and central nervous system, we still have yet to come up with clinical evidence based studies to determine how alterations in these interactions begin and how they are sustained over time. Keep Pets Safe, Healthy During the Holidays The holiday season is synonymous with family gatherings, dinner parties, gift openings and plenty of festive food, all of which can pose challenges for pets. Lisa Darling, DVM, PetSmart’s resident veterinarian and pet care expert, offers this advice for keeping pets safe, healthy and happy this holiday season and throughout the cold winter months. Create a Safe Home This time of year, holiday decor can include seasonal plants, ornaments and candles, which means plenty of intriguing and dangerous new sights and smells for pets. For example, extra electrical cords can be tempting new “chew toys” for pets. Darling recommends taking special care to ensure extra electrical cords for festive indoor lighting are not accessible to pets by taping down or covering to help prevent injuries. Christmas trees can also pique the interest of curious cats and playful pups. Darling urges pet parents to firmly anchor trees so they can take any potential playful swatting and to keep breakable glass ornaments higher up on the tree, out of pets’ reach, along with temptations like tinsel and ribbons. Candles can also be problematic, so it’s best to avoid burning them or put them far out of pets’ reach. Seasonal plants like holly, mistletoe and poinsettia plants are poisonous to dogs and cats, so if you plan to decorate your home with them, place them in an area your pet cannot reach. Savor the Season The holidays are filled with festive food, treats and candy, and although it can be tempting to share human foods with your beloved pets, resist the urge. “Table scraps such as turkey, gravy and stuffing may look harmless, but even small amounts can lead to serious health issues,” Darling said. Creating Resolutions that Stick! The new year is upon us. The gift and energy of a fresh slate…a chance for growth, for change, for creation, for resolution of what we want to be different from the year before. Maybe it’s a resolution for improved health and weight loss, a resolution for a new career, a new business or enhanced relationship. Perhaps you’re resolving to manage your emotions, such as being less angry. Or you may simply resolve to cultivate more happiness and joy into your life every day. The challenge is not in what resolutions we set, the challenge is in how to achieve and sustain what we are after. I am sure we can all admit to the experience of setting a resolution, feeling ready and pumped, only to lose steam and commitment after a month or two. Yup, you’re not alone! There are a few key elements to creating sustainable, long-lasting change. And I am grateful to share them with you. 1.It’s all YOU - Before you can act on the resolutions you have chosen, you MUST start by accepting 100% personal responsibility for where you are in your life right now. Like, outrageous, full, entire responsibility. Period. Once you are able to say, yes, it is me that is the control center of my life, then you can go to key element #2.

2. Get Clear – What is your resolution? Why do you want? How will life be different once you get there? Who do you get to become on your way? What does it feel like? What will not getting there cost you? These are some great questions to ask yourself as you get clear and create that vision. It is with that clarity and vision that you will be able to make choices that align with that vision. That align with that big WHY behind what you want. When any obstacles arise, which they will, you can call on that vision – picture it, feel it, believe it – and that carries you through, inspiring you to continue going for it! 3. Say it Loud, Say it Proud – Share your resolution. Tell people. Write it with dry erase on your bathroom mirror. When you speak and see your intentions and goals, they become more real. The universe hears it too. Sharing it also creates accountability. Bonus tip – Write and speak your resolutions as if there are already happening. 4. One Bite at a Time – When you see your resolution, chunk it down. Create an action plan that allows you to take small, little shifts. When we start off sprinting, it leaves very little energy for the long haul, so see it as a marathon. Slow and steady. Small step by small step.

5. Practice Gratitude – When you are in a state of gratitude, you are reprogramming your brain into an abundance mindset. Abundance attracts abundance. Commit to a daily practice journal and write down 5 things you were grateful for in each day. The super bonus here is that it also instantly creates more joy and fulfillment in your life. this philosophy has guided Boca Helping Hands (BHH), BYLINE HEREa non-profit organization that assists neighbors in need, for nearly 20 years.

For people facing financial crises, BHH steps in with immediate aid. Dollars devoted to this program help prevent eviction, utility shut-offs and other emergency situations.

Founded in 1998, BHH started as a soup kitchen in a local church. t today, it’s a thriving, $2 million operation that provides a wealth of food, financial, medical and jobrelated resources for individuals and families throughout the community.

Like food services, the financial assistance program is designed “to supplement, not sustain,” swedenborg explains. Boca Raton residents who apply must document their needs and usually receive a onetime payment, reinforcing BHH goal to lend a hand up, rather than a hand out. “we don’t enable,” says swedenborg. “Our mission is to instill dignity and foster independence.”

Feeding the Hungry BHH welcomes up to 200 guests a day for hot meals, which are served at the Remillard Family Resource center, BHH spacious home at 1500 Nw 1st court. Lunch is offered Mondays through Fridays, and family dinners are scheduled thursday evenings. Patrons include people of all ages, from all walks of life--the elderly, single moms with kids, veterans, the unemployed and the working poor. the program is unique among community meal programs. guests can choose from a wide selection of healthy, upscale fare, and enjoy their meals in the comfort and comradery of a pleasant, wood-trimmed dining room that resembles a small café. Menu items are lovingly prepared, and beautifully presented, by a caring team of volunteers. Even special occasions, from st. Patrick’s Day to the Kentucky Derby, are celebrated with specially themed dishes, dining room décor, and staff dress. “Everything, from the food to the atmosphere, reflects our passion for our work and respect for those we serve,” says Development Manager Karen swedenborg. through the program, hot meals are delivered to the homebound as well. Over 5,000 pantry bags, filled with a variety of groceries, are also distributed monthly to qualified, low-income residents of Palm Beach County. Additionally, the program’s backpack service, which benefits 1,400 boys and girls from ten schools, ensures that children are well fed on the weekends. Keeping BHH warehouse and kitchen shelves fully stocked is a huge undertaking. Job training centers on jump starting clients’ careers, through fast-track courses for lucrative positions as hospitality workers, home-health aides, commercial drivers, call center representatives and help-desk technicians. the program is highly successful, both in completion and job placement rates, says Swedenborg. “Students enrolled to become home health aides, for example, rarely drop out, and 85 to 90 percent find work after graduation.”

Health Care Services Added this year, BHH expanded its spectrum of services with medical and dental care. Joining forces with another non-profit, Genesis Community Health, BHH established a clinic at 30 sE 6th street in downtown Boca, where people from across the county receive physical exams, lab tests, and other primary care procedures. the ultimate goal is to treat 3,000 patients a year.

coincidentally, barely a month after receiving the honor, Rosemary has jumped back into an AVDA cause. she is on the committee planning the Feb. 21 “Heart of a Woman” luncheon fundraiser at the Boca Resort. The speaker will be Michelle Knight, one of the three women abducted, imprisoned and repeatedly raped by Ariel castro at his home in cleveland. Nabbed by the suspect between 2002 and 2004 were Knight (who has changed her name legally to Lilly Rose Lee), Georgina DeJesus and Amanda Berry. They finally escaped in 2013 when Castro was captured, tried and sentenced to life plus 1,000 years in prison. He committed suicide behind bars.
