So many people get involved with carrying grudges and having these moral battles with people, where they cast themselves as the righteous and the other guy is the dirtbag. They waste tons of energy on it, create all kinds of darkness around themselves and the other person. It gets you nothing.

Magazines.

Clean, crisp, beautiful. Today’s world is filled with noise, blinking lights and distractions. Print advertising utilizes all that technology has to offer to deliver targeted messages that capture the imagination through traditional storytelling and the surrounding silence allows readers to stay engaged without moving on to the next blinking light. This makes them perfect for building brand and product awareness. Magazines also work to build trust; use them to achieve credibility with consumers. Magazine advertising can be used to lead customers to a more conversion-friendly platform like digital.

LEGALLY SPEAKING BY ALAN J. REINDFELD, ESQ

Who inherits what Jose Fernandez left his family after his tragic death? Jose Fernandez, star pitcher for the Miami Marlins, died tragically on September 25, 2016 in a boating accident. He lef t behind a girlfriend who was pregnant with his soon -to - be f irst child. As more facts are revealed, it appears that he lef t a Last Will & Testament naming his mother as his sole benef iciar y. Does this mean that an af ter- born child can be automatic ally disinherited? Well, let ’s see what Florida law has to say about this mat ter. For tunately, Florida Statute §732.302 (the so - called “ Pretermit ted Child” statute) was created to specif ically address this issue. The law essentially states that a child born af ter a testator (or parent, in this c ase) makes a will, the child has the right to receive his or her share from the deceased parent ’s estate as if the parent had died without leaving a will, or intestate. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule. The child will not receive his or her share if the deceased parent intentionally omit ted the child under the will or the parent had other children during the execution of the will and lef t substantially all the estate assets to the other parent of the pretermit ted child and that other parent sur vived the deceased parent.

the time of his death, his child would be entitled to receive 10 0% of his estate, unless, of course, he intentionally omit ted providing for his child under his will or he lef t substantially all his assets to his girlfriend (which according to news repor ts, points to the c ontrar y). This is one of those ex tremely rare areas where Statute has already been done to cover scenarios which c annot usually be foreseen. The negatives here, depending on his Will, is whether a Guardianship will have to be set up to manage the assets, or whether there are other alternative arrangements out there. Hopefully, his Last Will & Testament may have contained a Standby Trust provision, so that his child will not inherit all monies at 18 years of age. A standby Trust would possibly allow monies to be disbursed at later periods and for specif ic instances, such as health, maintenance and suppor t. If you would like to obtain more information on succession laws in the State of Florida, you may contact the Law O f f ices of Reinfeld & Cabrera.

So what does this mean? It means that if Jose Fernandez’s unborn child is born alive and well, then his child c ould inherit any and all assets that he may have owned at the time of his death. Given that Jose Fernandez was not married at

at&t recognition

The Margate Police Department awards officers who display a high level of efficiency, competence and an eagerness to excel at their duties.

Last Saturday, a two-yearold boy wandered away from his Pinebrook Pointe apartment in #OurMargate. The child was only gone a short time when the babysitter realized he was missing and began frantically searching for the child. Neighbors, including Henry Tate III, began to assist in the search for the child. The boy was spotted in the lake behind the apartment where he lived, and without a second thought, Mr. Tate jumped in and pulled the child out of the water. He began CPR, and the child regained consciousness. Margate Police and Fire Rescue arrived on scene quickly and took over care for the child. He was transported to Northwest Medical Center for further evaluation, and is recovering thanks to Mr. Tate’s actions

coMMunity Policing awarD: Officer Kyle Woolley and Officer Neil Sohn, Homeless Outreach Specialists, were awarded the City of Margate Police Department Community Oriented Policing Award. Do Your Eyes Make You Look Tired

Dr. Annabelle Dookie

Before

A primary reason for droopy eyes is simply due to age. It can also be hereditary. As everything droops, so do the eyebrows. As the outer part of After the eyebrows droop, the skin of the upper eyelids will look saggy, as if you had developed extra skin that was not there several years before. Removing this “extra” skin can drastically improve that droopy look. Another reason for “tired eyes” is because of droopy or migrating eyelid fat. This fat is held back by a thin wall of fibrous tissue called the orbital septum, which weakens over time. The fat, held firmly back by this wall in youth can bulge with age, giving you “baggy” upper and lower eyelids. Blepharoplasty removes this extra fat and tightens the wall, restoring a youthful contour. For those patients with puffiness under the eyes or baggy upper and lower eyelids, laser eyelid surgery can reduce and often eliminate these problems. The end results are a more alert and youthful look around the eyes.

If the eyes looking back at you in the mirror are not reflecting how you are feeling, it might be time to consider a blepharoplasty.

The prominent fat pockets can be removed from a hidden incision along the inside surface of the eyelid. This “no stitch”, no external scar technique is utilized when patients have fat prominence of “eyelid bags” alone without excess or sagging eyelid skin. If minimal excess skin is present, a skin pinch technique is combined with transconjunctival fat removal. In this case, a “pinch” of lower eyelid skin is removed. These techniques typically result in less swelling, less discomfort, and shorter recovery time. I will assess which technique is ideal for your eyes during your personal consultation. Recovery from eyelid surgery usually takes seven to ten days. Sunglasses allow you to go out in public immediately after surgery, and make-up can be worn within about one week. Normal activity can be resumed within a few days, and exercise can be resumed within 14 days after surgery.

The eyes are the first thing we notice when we meet someone. Beautiful eyes can make up for other features that are less than ideal. Likewise, eyes that are tired, droopy, or puffy may not reflect a vibrant inner self. It is often said that the earliest signs of aging are around the eyes. Perhaps people are always questioning whether or not you had a good night’s sleep because your eyes are swollen with bags. Fortunately, at the Weston Cosmetic Surgery Center, we can give you dramatically younger looking eyes through “eyelid lifts”, also known as blepharoplasty.

How to manage noise aversion in dogs and strengthen the human-animal bond (Family Features) The holiday season seems to last longer and get more hectic every year. Whether cooking the Thanksgiving feast or doing last-minute gift shopping, everyone can get a little stressed out. Most people don’t know that their dog may also experience anxiety during these celebrations. According to an online survey conducted by Harris Poll and commissioned by Zoetis, 46 percent of dog owners reported their dog showed symptoms of stress during the holidays; that stress could be due to noise aversion. The survey also found that 44 percent of dog owners said their dogs suffer from noise aversion. Noise aversion is the set of fear-based behaviors that dogs display when subjected to “noise triggers.” During the year-end holidays, such noise triggers might be the doorbell, boisterous family gatherings, children playing with loud toys or New Year’s fireworks. During the busy holiday season, common behavioral signs of canine noise aversion include: panting, trembling or shaking, pacing or restlessness, vocalizing, hiding, owner-seeking behavior, cowering, refusal to eat, excessive vigilance or hypervigilance, and escape behaviors. Although noise aversion is common, dog owners often do not seek help from their veterinarians. One reason may be that pet owners recognize their dogs overreact to noise, but do not recognize that these behaviors are a demonstration of fear. This fear can disrupt the human-animal bond by causing anxiety for the dogs and stress for their humans. Therefore, it is important to seek treatment for your dog if he is displaying signs of noise aversion. Not only are these dogs distressed and suffering, but when left untreated, noise aversion can progress to a more severe state. 100% NO-KILL SOCIETY

“It is crucial to understand the level of physiological suffering that occurs with the stress and anxiety of noise aversion,” said Dr. Lynn Honeckman, a Florida veterinarian. “Ignoring the fearful pet during a noise event or using prescription medications as a last resort is not the standard of care as outlined by the American Board of Veterinary Behaviorists.”

Puppies Kittens Dogs Cats

A new medication called SILEO® (dexmedetomidine oromucosal gel), the first and only FDA-approved treatment for canine noise aversion, is available via prescription from your veterinarian. It can be easily administered at home to calm your dog without sedating him for the duration of a noisy holiday event. The first dose can be given as soon as the dog shows signs of anxiety and fear, or approximately 30-60 minutes before a known fear- or anxiety-causing noise stimulus. There are additional ways to make your dog with noise aversion feel more comfortable. Dogs always need a safe place to call their own, and that can be especially true when they need comfort from loud celebrations. Sometimes a dim, quiet room or crate can provide comfort, while soft music can soothe other dogs. Don’t suffer through the holiday season with a fearful and anxious dog and a stressed family. If you think your dog is showing signs of noise aversion, consult your veterinarian for guidance on a solution that allows you and your dog to enjoy the holidays together. It’s Their Business

Impress at your holiday party with authentic New York style cuisine ‘Big Daddy’s Pizza & Subs’ offers catering and delivery for any occasion! By Nicol JeNkiNs A holiday or office party doesn’t have to be stressful. Impress your guests with homemade authentic New York style pizza, delicious baked ziti, mouthwatering wings, and top it off with a cannoli for dessert. Big Daddy’s Pizza & Subs serves up a big menu of Italian dishes to choose from for the holidays and every day. The restaurant is conveniently located in Margate, so you won’t have to travel to New York City to get a slice of their Italian cuisine. Instead of slaving over the oven and spending hours in the kitchen, let the expert Chefs at Big Daddy’s Pizza & Subs cook up an Italian meal just in time for the holidays. Their catering menu offers a wide variety of dishes including: lasagna, manicotti, eggplant parmesan, chicken marsala, pasta salad and meatballs. The restaurant is also well known for their New York style pizza by the slice and by the pie. Their specialty pizzas include: the Big Daddy’s Special, Buffalo Chicken Pizza, Italian Supreme, Meat Lover’s Pizza, Bruschetta Pizza, Steak Bomb Pizza, Mexican Pizza, and many more! Other menu favorites are their tasty calzones, Stromboli, fresh salads, delicious wings, cold and hot subs, and homemade Italian meals such as raviolis, chicken parmesan and good old spaghetti and meatballs. Neal Persten, who is from New York, opened the local pizza shop 10 years ago to deliver authentic New York style dishes to South Florida. He is known for his successful restaurants in the area, Brooklyn Boys and Little Italy, both were located in Coral Springs. “A lot of our customers from up North say we are the closest thing to New York style pizza in South Florida. It’s a combination of the sauce, the crust, and the care we put in it,” said Neal. At Big Daddy’s Pizza & Subs, all of their food is made fresh daily by the owner or one of their expert chefs. Neal and his family run the restaurant by treating their customers like family. When you stop in for a slice of pizza, you will see Neal making the pizza and chatting with diners. You’ll also see Neal and his wife, Joey, in the community sponsoring sports teams and giving back to local schools. “I know a lot of my customers by their first name when they come in or call. It’s like Cheers where you know everyone by name,” said Neal. “It’s all about the care that we put into the product. When it’s done and the customers are happy, it’s very rewarding to see.” Big Daddy’s Pizza & Subs is truly your neighborhood pizza shop! Stop in for a slice of real New York style pizza or make your own pie by choosing your own toppings. Cater your next office party, holiday event, or any occasion with Big Daddy’s Pizza & Subs. Big Daddy’s is located at 407 N state Road 7, Margate Fl 33063. To place an order or for more information, call 954-971-0810. FINANCIAL / TAX ADVICE RobeRt Spielman, Cpa, JD

Time For 2016/2017 Planning

Now that we are in November, most of us can effectively project what our 2016 income tax picture will look like. Therefore, November and December are the prime months for doing year-end 2016 planning. When doing your year-end planning, it is essential to think ahead to 2017, so strategies can be implemented that not only reduce your 2016 tax liability, but potentially reduce your 2017 liability. Our objective is to adopt a plan that creates a net tax savings, considering the two tax years together. For individual tax planning, you must account for all of your income and deductions to date and then project your income and deductions through the end of the year. No one tax checklist for year-end planning can ever be fully applicable to everyone. Below are just a few planning ideas to consider when you do your year-end 2016 planning: 1.Consider family tax planning to determine whether you can shift income to family members in lower tax brackets. 2.If you can, make gifts of up to $14,000 per person Federal gift tax free. Making gifts to children enables them to earn income, which may be subject to a significantly lower level of income taxation.

ta x a n d a d v i s o r y s e r v i c e s

from trusts that bring along income. Expenses that can be deferred include paying mortgage interest, real estate tax, medical expenses, State income taxes, charitable donations, and miscellaneous deductions such as legal, accounting, and investment management fees. 7. Have you fully funded your retirement accounts? If you have not made your required minimum distribution from your retirement plan, do so before the end of the year. If you reached aged 70 ½ this year, you may delay your first withdrawal until next year, so long as it is made before April 1. Consider your 2016 and 2017 marginal tax brackets when making this decision. Consider whether making a charitable contribution from your retirement plan makes sense. 8. Maximize the use of education benefits and credits within the family. Consider Section 529 Plans and determine if you can benefit from education credits or if they are better utilized by the student. If students can utilize the credits, they should recognize income to the extent a credit can be monetized. 9.Review your withholdings and estimated tax payments to insure you will not be subject to underpayment penalties.

3.Carefully review your business activities, especially activities flowing to you from Schedule K-1’s, to maximize your 2016 tax position. 4.Review investments to determine if you have unrealized capital losses, which may be recognized to offset capital gains already recognized. Review any investment interest expense limitation. 5.Bunch up your itemized deductions if you are close to being able to utilize them after considering all phase-outs. If you might not be able to utilize them, consider moving them to 2017. 6.Review 2017 to determine if it makes sense to accelerate income into 2016 or defer expenses into 2017. If you need to accelerate income, consider selling U.S. savings bonds, recognize capital gains, accelerate wages or take distributions www.CityNewsMagaziNe.CoM

Year-end tax planning can be complex and is often based upon assumptions for the succeeding tax year. However, if you gather all your information, review your 2015 return, and consider all of your options, meaningful tax savings can be achieved. Avoid the “should’ve’s” and “could’ve’s” by planning now and taking the appropriate action steps before yearend. Gifts of Love for Those Who Have Everything and Those Who Have Nothing You can make this Christmas season more meaningful and give a gift that gives back long after the holidays have passed. Food For The Poor’s annual Christmas Gift Catalog is filled with heartfelt gifts that epitomize the spirit of giving and will positively change the lives of those who have nothing. For as little as $30, you can give school supplies and a soccer ball to a child for a year, ensuring they have all they need to learn and do well in school as well as play and get plenty of exercise. For $100, you can provide a computer work station which opens doors to another world for a child living in poverty and better equips them to further their education and become competitive in the workforce. And for as little as $43.80, your Christmas gift can feed a hungry child for a year. Animals are another welcomed gift. For $90 you can give a goat that provides families with nutritious protein and a chance to break the cycle of poverty. The gift of baby chicks provides a poor family not only with a sustainable source of protein from eggs, but also with supplemental income from selling extra eggs. A gift of $25 provides 20 chicks or $125 for 100 chicks. “Fashion and technology are constantly changing, but when you choose to give a gift to help the poor in rural communities, such as goats, donkeys, cows, chickens or pigs, you’re giving a gift that will keep on giving,” said Angel Aloma, Food For The Poor’s Executive Director. “For destitute families these farm animals are a source of income and nutrition and will never go out of style.” Some of the catalog’s creative gift ideas enable communities to sustain themselves economically. Tilapia ponds provide entire villages with an ongoing food source; fishing villages provide the boats, engines, tackle and equipment needed for the fishermen to support their families. Your tax-deductible gift this holiday season will be used to further enhance these Food For The Poor projects and is greatly appreciated. The 2016 Christmas Gift Catalog can be accessed through the charity’s secure website at www.FoodForThePoor.org/giftcatalog. Food For The Poor, one of the largest international relief and development organizations in the nation, does much more than feed millions of the hungry poor primarily in 17 countries of the Caribbean and Latin America. This interdenominational Christian ministry provides emergency relief assistance, clean water, medicines, educational materials, homes, support for orphans and the aged, skills training and micro-enterprise development assistance, with more than 95 percent of all donations going directly to programs that help the poor.
