COMMUNITY NEWS LETTER FROM THE EDITOR This quote, by Zig Ziglar, a famous motivational speaker, speaks for itself. Make this month a special month where you do that little extra for your neighbor, friend, or even better, someone you do not even know. Since Lucy and I have purchased the business, we have joined a local Rotary Club. The Rotary motto is SERVICE ABOVE SELF, which says it all. Charity has become a very important part of our lives and of our magazines. Besides us covering or sponsoring almost every event and cause that comes along, and believe me, there are many, this month we were able to help so many kids in distress, that I still feel the afterglow. We will all miss the Ringling Bros. Circus, which is shutting down due to lack of attendance.
Your Community Magazine But FELD also puts on the DISNEY ON ICE shows at the local arenas which all the younger kids just love. We were able to trade a full page in each magazine for 83 tickets to next weekend’s shows, for a total of 189 tickets. We have donated all these tickets to non-profit groups that shelter kids in distress. We also were fortunate enough to give away over $20,000 in clothing to these same groups of children in distress. For us, this month was by far and away, the most gratifying we have been involved with the magazines. We both hope that this will just be the beginning and that all our local businesses will support us going forward. Our staff has worked hard to bring you the most enjoyable viewing experience possible knowing that everyone is looking for the one thing that matters to them. We hope we have achieved that. Thank you.

Today’s world is filled with noise, blinking lights and distractions. Print advertising utilizes all that technology has to offer to deliver targeted messages that capture the imagination through traditional storytelling and the surrounding silence allows readers to stay engaged without moving on to the next blinking light. This makes them perfect for building brand and product awareness. Magazines also work to build trust; use them to achieve credibility with consumers. Magazine advertising can be used to lead customers to a more conversion-friendly platform like digital.

It’s Their Business
BY JOSEPH BUCHINO
From Green Beret To King of Restoration
F
rom jumping out of planes at 30,000 feet during nighttime operations with over 100lbs of equipment strapped to him, to multiple combat tours in various theaters across the world, to becoming an up and coming success in the small business world, Joseph Buchino not only has some amazing stories to be shared, he also has a plan on how to bring greatness back to the restoration industry. The self-proclaimed “Emergency Restoration King” first opened his doors in February 2016. With over $24,000.00 of credit card debt and only $3,000.00 in the bank, he managed to grow his company to over $1,000,000.00 his first year in business! He has taken skills he learned being a Green Beret in the United States Army to his restoration business. Interviewer: Joseph, there are hundreds of restoration companies here in Florida. What makes you stand out from the pack? Joseph: There are a few things that make us completely different than our competition. Our competitive edge is education. Everyone on my team has obtained certifications by the Institute of Inspection
Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) and has additional training from the Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA). With a high emphasis on education, every one of my team members has leadership and decision making abilities. When you call us give an estimate, they give it to you on the spot. You ask a question, they will answer it. If they do not know they answer, they will honestly say do not know and will find the answer for you. I harp on integrity. It doesn’t matter how big or small the job is, we will do it the correct way, by the book, every time. My team has walked off of jobs because the property owner did not want us to do it to standard and would not sign the paperwork acknowledging that they ask us not to do it to standard. We do it accurate every time. I: What is the first step a property owner should do if they are having some sort of water loss on their property? J: First thing they should do is turn off the water. Next thing they should do is call me! I cannot tell you how many times I have gone into a house, weeks after they
had a plumber fixed the leak and we find water still in the walls with mold growing due to the time the water has been there, if they would have just called me the same time they called a plumber, we could have saved them time, money and heartache. I: Any advice for property owners that could save them money? J: If you own and/or manage commercial property, call us today and we will set up an Emergency Service Plan (ESP) for you. This plan is guaranteed to save you thousands of dollars, while keeping you in business. If you are a homeowner, Always turn off your water when you leave for an extended period of time and have proper maintenance conducted of your AC unit.

The Five W’s of Trusts What, Who, Why, Where, And When
S
ince my last article, people have been calling my office and inquiring on what a trust is and its potential benefits. As a result, I have decided to focus this month’s article on answering, what I like to call “The Five W’s of a Trust.”
1. WHAT - a trust is a legal document that transfers property during or after a person’s lifetime for the benefit of someone. For the most part, there are two types of trusts: A Revocable and a Non-Revocable. A revocable trust can be changed or altered at any time by the creator or creators of the trust during his or her lifetime, while a non-revocable trust can only be changed in certain, rare circumstances. 2. WHO - a trust can be made out for the benefit of any person that you may want, including young children, your spouse, a friend, or your parents. 3. WHY - a trust can automatically transfer property without the use of a will or the need to go to court. Additionally, the use of a trust is usually faster than that of a normal will in transferring property and title as well as it helps avoid the lengthy process of probate in courts. A trust also has the following benefits: it secures your property for the benefit of your beneficiaries, it protects the property from claims from creditors while in the trust, and it also ensures your privacy (as a trust does not become a public record like a will does). Some trusts may even better your tax status, if you fall above the taxable exemption.
4. WHERE - a trust can dispose of property anywhere, so long as the local law of where the property is located is followed and the property is properly titled in the name of the trust. 5. WHEN - a trust can be created today with the help of our attorneys. A trust is a very important document for the preservation of your property in the event of death or incapacitation. There are many factors to consider in creating a trust document and only a licensed attorney can walk you through the fine details of both the creation and the proper funding of a trust. The attorneys at Reinfeld & Cabrera, P.A. have experience in creating trusts and can formulate a trust to meet all your needs. Call us now to schedule a free consultation and to discuss our special rates.
The Law Office of Reinfeld & Cabrera, P.A. is conveniently located at 10235 W Sample Rd # 207, Coral Springs, FL. The law firm is bilingual and offers a free initial consultation by phone or in person. To speak with an attorney, call 954-334-1520 or 1-855-LAWS-123. “Varicose Veins are more than skin deep”
By Rachel Galvin
O
ur body does so much day in and day out, and most of that work goes unseen. Our veins have an important job, carrying our blood back and forth to our heart only to be pumped out again. As we age, this daily toil can become more apparent as veins reveal themselves like road maps, especially on our legs. When they become deeper and wider, such as the case of varicose veins, that is when it can be cause for concern. Not only can varicose veins be unsightly, but they also can be a signal that something else is happening within the body to cause them. Each vein has a tiny valve that helps it do its job, but there can be leaks and the valve can malfunction causing the blood to back up and the vein to bulge. Sometimes, having varicose veins can mean the person with them has cardiovascular problems. Many people will seek out a doctor to get rid of the unsightly veins, but sometimes the doctor they consult with is more of a plastic surgeon or dermatologist and does not probe deeper to understand the root cause of the issue. But Dr. Ariel Soffer, M.D., FACC, knows “varicose veins are more than skin deep.” He is board certified in cardiovascular disease and, for over 20 years, he has focused his practice on aspects of the cardiovascular system, especially varicose veins. According to company spokesperson Adam Kustin, people who have issues with their veins often complain of achy legs or numbness, among other symptoms. In order to ascertain the underlying problem, patients who come into our office undergo an ultrasound. “You and I can walk in and both have the same degree of problems with our veins] and there is no way to tell [the underlying issue] based on the surface,” says Kustin. “It is important to see a doctor.”

sclerotherapy, we inject a saline solution and the blood is magically redirected. It depends on the severity,” he says. “The laser is super accurate and highly effective. It is a low risk procedure.” Compression socks might be used in recovery as well, Kustin adds.
He said that one of the big culprits is inactivity. “When you are on your feet eight to 12 hours a day, not moving ... inactivity is the biggest culprit, or sitting with legs crossed...It also can be genetic,” he says. Mr. Kustin explained that exercising and elevating your legs periodically will help with blood flow. He also recommended compression socks, which he said act like a reverse funnel redirecting blood to the heart. Also weight management is important. The procedure to fix varicose veins can be relatively simple. Most procedures involve closing the vein, sometimes repairing it. “If it is a secondary or tertiary vein, we can close it up; a laser heats it and clamps it shut. If we do
Besides working with veins, The Soffer Health Institute also handle other cardiovascular issues, including primary care, everything from allergies to working with weight management. They work with senior care and also have a concierge service, which allows patients basically to “pay for play,” getting special services like having no wait time, obtaining greater access to the doctor, getting an annual physical and more. Dr. Soffer also keeps his staff up-to-date with the latest medical developments and shares his knowledge on an ABC News Health segment called “Dr. Soffer’s Second Opinion,” and elsewhere. Soffer Health Institute began in Aventura and now there are several locations, including one in Deerfield Beach at 1877 W. Hillsboro Blvd. They plan to open a Weston location next. Members of the staff speaks Spanish, Russian, Hebrew, Creole and Portuguese. For more information, call 305-792-0555 or visit www.sofferhealth.com.

FINANCIAL / TAX ADVICE RobeRt Spielman, Cpa, JD
Beware “The Dirty Dozen” Beginning in the early weeks of tax filing season, the Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”) releases its top twelve (12) scams targeting taxpayers in its reports titled “The Dirty Dozen”. The “Dirty Dozen” targets scams most detrimental to the tax system and taxpayers alike. This year, you can be certain the IRS is most concerned about phishing schemes and identity theft, along with recurring topics identified in prior years. While the top twelve (12) 2017 scams will be published over the coming weeks, all taxpayers should be aware of the risks they face due to the following “scams”: 1. Phishing – the unlawful attempt to obtain sensitive and confidential information through the use of fraudulent communication, whether by email, mail or by telephone, including fraudulent requests for personal data such as user names, passwords, and credit card details. 2. Fake Charities – closely related to phishing, fake charities solicit contributions online or by telephone, frequently targeting elderly or nonEnglish speaking taxpayers. 3. Unscrupulous Return Preparers – beware of return preparers who promise significant refunds based on credits, deductions, or expenses that may have no basis in fact. Beware of scam artists posing as tax preparers who do not provide a copy of your return, and whose final product is not in accordance with the information you provided. Filing a false return and securing unlawful refunds can result in civil and criminal penalties. 4. OVDP Assistance – taxpayers with foreign bank accounts who have not disclosed their existence and are otherwise required to do so, may fall prey to unscrupulous tax preparers. Because of the threat of significant penalties, taxpayers may be targeted for exorbitant fees.
www.CityNewsMagaziNe.CoM
5. Overstating Deductions, Expenses and Credits – this is a continuing “Dirty Dozen” issue. Taxpayers who file returns reflecting overstated deductions and expenses or understating their income may be subject to both civil and criminal penalties. 6. Tax Shelters – while less prevalent than in the 1970’s through 1990’s, tax shelter matters still concern the IRS. If you have participated in a shelter, you may need to provide certain disclosures to avoid penalties. 7. Credit Overstatements – the IRS is vigilant in policing credit overstatements for education credits, research and development credits, earned income tax credits, and child care related credits. Be sure you retain all required documentation. More information on the annual “Dirty Dozen” list can be found on the IRS website and in financial columns throughout the tax filing season. Taxpayers should choose their tax preparers wisely. Taxpayers are legally responsible for what is in their return, even if they use a third-party tax preparer to electronically file. Make sure you know your preparer’s credentials and reputation. Be sure they possess the requisite skills to assist you with your own unique tax facts and circumstances. Making a smart choice in selecting your tax preparer insures you are properly meeting your tax filing and payment obligations. LEGALLY SPEAKING
BY KEN CUTLER, ESQ. & ANDREW RADER, ESQ.
What happens if you leave the scene of an accident if someone is injured? In an earlier issue, we explained that under Florida law communications between police of ficers and par ties involved in motor vehicle accidents are privileged. In other words, statements made to the police cannot be used against you. This is called the Accident Repor t Privilege. Under Florida Statute 316.066(4), accident repor ts are not admissible as evidence in any trial, civil or criminal nor are any statements made by the par ticipants in the accident to the police of ficer investigating the accident. This subsection states: “Each accident repor t made by a person involved in an accident and any statement made by such person to a law enforcement of ficer for the purpose of completing an accident repor t required by this section shall be without prejudice to the individual so repor ting. No such repor t or statement shall be used as evidence in any trial, civil or criminal. The result of breath, urine, and blood tests administered as provided in §316.1932 or §316.1933 are not confidential and shall be admissible into evidence in accordance with the provisions of §316.1934.” Recently, a Florida appellate cour t opinion out of Miami considered this privilege in a situation where the driver fled the scene of an automobile crash in which someone was killed. The Cour t held “ that the accident privilege in section 316.066(4) does not confer any benefit or privilege on a person who abandons her duty to remain at the scene of any automobile accident which results in death, and who chooses instead to leave the scene of an accident, contrar y to section 316.027(1)(b) of the Florida Statutes (2013).” That statute states: The driver of a vehicle involved in a crash occurring on public or private proper ty which results in serious bodily injur y to a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the crash, or as close thereto as possible, and shall remain at the scene of the crash until he or she has fulfilled the requirements of s. 316.062.” So, this law requires that a driver has a duty to give information and render aid after a crash. Bottom line: If you are involved in a crash resulting in someone being injured or killed, or resulting in damage to any vehicle or other proper ty, you must stay at the scene and give your name, address, and the vehicle registration. What’s more, you have an obligation to take reasonable steps to get an injured person at the scene the medical care he or she needs if it is apparent that medical care is necessar y or the person requests that you help medical care. If you don’t, the privilege that prevents your statements from being used against you may not apply. WILLIAMS V. STATE, No. 3D14 -2853 (Fla. Dist. Ct. App. Oct. 26, 2016). Remember you have rights that are spelled out under the law. If you are involved in a crash and want to know more about your rights please give us a call. All initial consultations are always free with no obligation. CUTLER R ADER, P.L. can be reached at (954) 913 - CASE (2273) or visit us at w w w.CutlerRader.com www.CityNewsMagaziNe.CoM

Winston Winston is one of my many rescue pups. He is going to be 5 years old on March 26th. He was found with another dog abandoned in a house. He loves to play ball and as you can see he also likes to dress up :-)

Lola & Aila Lola and Aila are our beautiful Golden Girls. We moved from Wisconsin to Boca in October. Rather than rolling in the snow making snow angels, they love chilling on the beach and bringing unconditional love to others! Both are being trained to be canine good citizens and therapy dogs.
Cashew Cashew is quite the adventurous and likes to go kayaking, loves playing with his friend Brady, he’s been to the top of Mt.Evans in Colorado, and played craps at the MGM in Vegas. He’s in training to be our therapy dog. He’s my best friend and unless I’m working out or on a date (sometimes he comes too) he’s with me. His favorite foods include grass fed beef and spinach omelets, wild salmon, and coconut oil. He also will only eat veggies if I cook them for him. He hates them raw. He’s also grain free.
Jamaica Jamaica is a 2 years old male scottie. He is a happy, energetic and loving little buddy! He loves to bark to lizards, and also tease his little brother Pedrito(also a scottie).

“March is National Nutrition Month, which is the perfect time to re-evaluate what your cat is eating and make necessary changes to ensure you both are on the right path for a happy, healthy life,” said Dr. Jeff Werber, registered veterinarian. “Like humans, cats need a balanced diet to be healthy; look for a premium food that has animal protein as the No. 1 ingredient to help satisfy their nutritional needs and carnivorous appetites.”

(Family Features) Cats are typically self-sufficient family members, but owners tend to forget that those furry feline friends do need help when it comes to their daily nutrition. To keep your cat healthy, it’s important to look for a cat food with highquality ingredients to help with their nutrition needs from head to tail.

Other key elements to look for in your cat’s food include: • Optimal levels of fatty acids for a soft and shiny coat. • A fiber blend, including prebiotics and beet pulp, for healthy digestion. • A good mix of premium, high-quality ingredients to contribute to healthy energy levels. Keeping your cat healthy and happy doesn’t stop with general nutrition. It’s also important to pay close attention to other health concerns, like oral care, which is often overlooked. “In my experience, one of the most common health concerns I see cats face today is oral care,” Werber said. “That’s why I was happy to see that IAMS released a great-tasting cat food, IAMS Oral Care Complete, specifically designed to help reduce plaque and tartar while also providing cats with a 100 percent complete and balanced nutrition. It’s a win-win.” With the proper nutrition from a quality food, your cat can be healthier inside and out, which means more energy and vitality for playing and bonding. Whether you’re starting a kitten on a new eating routine or reassessing your adult or senior cat’s nutrition, remember the importance of supplying them with a premium cat food that includes high-quality ingredients for lifelong health. For more nutritional information for cats of all sizes and ages, visit IAMS.com.

FAMILY FEATURES
ules may vary from one event to the next, but whether your favorite team kicks it, runs it or dunks it, sports fans and food always provide a winning combo. Gather your friends for the next big game with a menu that gets everyone revved up for a win. A lineup filled with starters is just the ticket for a game day watch party or tailgate. Offering a series of finger foods and lighter fare lets your fellow fans grab a quick bite before the game or during a commercial break and continue snacking through the game. Make no mistake, serving up a lighter menu doesn’t mean you need to skimp on quality – just the opposite, in fact. Make every bite count by using exceptional ingredients and introducing unexpected flavors such as the distinctive taste of Jarlsberg Brand Cheese, which has a rich, 60-year Norwegian heritage. Best known as a classic wedge, this mild, mellow and nutty cheese can also be served sliced, shredded and cubed. Quesadillas are always a hit, and this version combines the best of gooey, melted cheese with bacon and a deliciously tangy salsa for a lively burst of fresh flavor. Then keep the mouthwatering cheese and bacon combos coming with a whole new take on grilled kebabs. No game day is complete without pizza, and this one scores big with its unexpected blend of flavors for a pie that is smoky and tangy, sweet and savory, and briny and creamy all at once. Then round out your menu with these easy sliders that are big on flavor and small on prep time. Find more ideas to liven up your game day menu at jarlsberg.com.

How to Navigate a Financial Emergency Your washing machine suddenly breaks down, a child requires a laptop for school or your car needs new tires. Sometimes surprise bills can be difficult to cover. Life’s financial emergencies happen to everyone, but 6 in 10 Americans cannot cover an unexpected $500 bill without selling something or borrowing money, according to Bankrate. As many as 70 percent of U.S. families live paycheck to paycheck, according to Alok Deshpande, founder of SmartPath Financial Education. In fact, less than 30 percent of families today have anything left at the end of the month to put in savings. That reality is echoed by a recent GoBankingRates survey, which revealed that 69 percent of Americans have less than $1,000 in savings and 34 percent don’t have any savings at all. “When you don’t have cash for something you need, there are many different financing options available. However, few realize that many of these options can lead to a debt spiral that can be difficult to pull out of,” said Richard Carrano, CEO of Purchasing Power, an employee purchase program offering consumer products and services through payroll deduction at the workplace.
“Regrettably, circumstances and bank accounts don’t always align. That’s why it’s so important to be ‘credit educated’ – to understand hidden costs and fees associated with high-risk credit options and avoid making financial mistakes that can hound you months, even years later.” Buying items on sub-prime credit or through highinterest vehicles like payday or title loans can be risky propositions, particularly if you have a low credit score to begin with. Understanding your options can help ensure you make the best choice to meet your short-term needs without compromising your long-term finances. Consider the following: Cash: Paying cash for a major purchase makes the most sense in terms of avoiding exorbitant fees and preventing credit dings from missed payments. However, cash may not always be readily available. Credit cards: Chances are, even with a shaky financial history, you can find a creditor willing to offer you a line of credit, but you’ll likely have a steep annual percentage rate that accrues each month. Furthermore, if you’re unable to repay more than the monthly minimum, you could end up carrying that debt for years before it’s fully paid down.
productivity at work. This leads many employers to offer an employee purchase program such as Purchasing Power, which allows you to buy what you need through automatic paycheck deductions over a 12-month period. There’s no credit check, zero interest and no hidden fees. There’s also a free financial wellness platform to help with budgeting, credit reports and personal coaching. Learn more at PurchasingPower.com. Rent to own: With rent-to-own products, you pay a monthly principal amount plus service fees and taxes for a period of time, up to completing the rental agreement and owning the item outright. While the monthly rate makes items like appliances and furniture immediately accessible, be wary of the long-term cost. Renters can end up paying as much as three times the retail value of an item before satisfying the terms for ownership. Payday/Title loans: Essentially, these loans function as a loan against a future paycheck or your vehicle. They often come with high percentage rates and fees, as well as extremely short repayment schedules. Rely on these loans only if you are certain you can cover the entire loan and associated fees by the designated due date. Whatever option you choose for emergency financing, understanding the repercussions can help you long-term.
Employee purchase programs: Research shows that financial stress at home regularly impacts employee
