Understanding and Addressing LGBT and Gender-Based Bullying
Online Bullying Course for Educators Cal State Fullerton’s 1-unit, online course Understanding and Addressing LGBT and GenderBased Bullying gives K-12 administrators, staff, and teachers the information they need to know about California’s anti-bullying laws. On January 1, 2014, new law AB 1266 went into effect, proscribing new rights and protections for transgender students, including the ability to choose the restroom and locker room they feel most comfortable in.

AUTISM ADDED AUTHORIZATION THE PROGRAM The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing has recently revised program requirements for teachers of students with Autism. Every Education Specialist teaching children with autism must obtain training in working with children with autism. If you currently hold an Education Specialist in Early Childhood Special Education or Moderate/ Severe, you already have training in Autism and are NOT required to obtain this new Added Authorization. However, anyone who received their Education Specialist credential in Mild/Moderate prior to fall 2010 AND who currently works with or is interested in working with children with Autism must complete an Added Authorization. Additionally, persons with a Learning Handicapped Credential, Education Specialist in other areas must also obtain the new Added Authorization.

CLEAR CREDENTIAL PROGRAM THE PROGRAM The Clear Credential Program is designed to serve teachers who need to clear their multiple or single subject credential, but for whom induction is unavailable. Although the program is completely ONLINE, participants will receive onsite face-to-face support from a local support provider as well as an opportunity to interact with an online community of learners. Individualized learning experiences based on the participants’ particular teaching/learning context will be addressed. Participants will enroll in three classes and receive 9 units of graduate credit. Up to 9 units may also apply to Cal State Fullerton’s graduate degrees in Curriculum and Instruction and Secondary Education. Contact the Graduate Program Adviser for your program in order to assess the number of units that may be transferable. It is recommended that participants complete the program in one year (2 semesters). If pursuing a multiple subject credential, participants should enroll in EDEL 502E and EDEL 537 in the fall semester, and EDEL 502F in the spring semester. If participants are pursuing a single subject credential, please enroll in EDSC 502E and EDSC 537 in the fall, and EDSC 502F in the spring. Courses will be offered during Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 semesters.
ELIGIBILITY To be eligible for CSUF’s Clear Credential Program, a teacher must: n
H ave been trained in California and hold a valid California SB2042 single and/or multiple subject preliminary credential.

B e employed by a California school district, charter school, private or independent school, and teach to the California Common Core State Standards.

H ave no access to an induction program through their employing school or district.
n
B e employed as the teacher of record that plans, delivers, and assesses standard based instruction. Applicants must also be responsible for the issuing of grades and have direct contact with parents.

B e the instructor of record for no less than 10 students in assigned classroom.

CLEAR EDUCATION SPECIALIST CREDENTIAL THE PROGRAM The purpose of the Clear Education Specialist Induction Program is to successfully prepare participating teachers to meet the academic needs of their students while receiving multiple opportunities for application and demonstration of the required knowledge and skills as evidenced in the induction standards. Participating teachers may choose to complete the program in one year by taking two courses a semester or they may opt to spread the opportunity out over several semesters. We have aligned our program with the required state standards and have incorporated innovative approaches for the professional development of Education Specialists. Three courses are offered ONLINE through Extended Education: SPED 496, SPED 502 (an elective for the clear), and SPED 551. SPED 531 (moderate/severe), SPED 532 (mild/ moderate), or SPED 535 (early childhood) is also required for the Clear Education Specialist Credential and offered through the Department of Special Education and/or University Extended Education. SPED 496- Senior Educational Practicum(Required only for those who hold a Level I Credential): For candidates who currently hold a Level I credential (not a preliminary credential). 496 enables Level I candidates to earn a Clear credential. Candidates who hold a preliminary credential do not need to take 496. CURRENT ISSUES: BULLYING Understanding and Addressing LGBT and Gender-Based Bullying EDAD X934 (1 UNIT) Prerequisite: none. Bullying is a significant problem on K-12 campuses across the United States. Gender identity and perceived gender identity, along with sexual orientation and perceived sexual orientation, play a significant role in most cases of bullying. This course is designed to give administrators, teachers, and school staff, the ability to recognize and to effectively address the dynamics of student bullying. The course also provides information about state and federal bullying laws, precedentsetting legal decisions, and success stories of schools that have re-set their campus cultures by addressing the underlying dynamics of school bullying. This course is organized as a series of multi-media learning modules developed and team-taught by scholars and professionals in the fields of Education, Psychology, Health, Public Policy and the Law. Carolyn O’Keefe, Psy.D. Senior Staff Psychologist, University of California, Irvine Adjunct Faculty, Pepperdine University, Graduate School of Education and Psychology Dr. O’Keefe is a licensed clinical psychologist whose primary interests include working with LGBTQ populations, suicide prevention, and training and education. She currently is a senior staff psychologist at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) where she works as a clinical psychologist in their Counseling Center. Among her many duties at UCI, she is a primary supervisor in their American Psychological Association accredited internship program, she serves as the liaison for the UCI School of Law, as the advisor of the Counseling Center’s LGBTQ Mentoring Program, and she has served as a member of the university-wide Transgender Task Force. In 2012, she was privileged to serve as the counselor in residence for the inaugural “T-Camp,” which is an annual weekend retreat for transgender identified college students who attend both public and private colleges and universities across the state of California. In 2013, Dr. O’Keefe was recognized as one of two Diversity Scholars for the Association of Counseling Center Training Agencies, and as a result of this recognition, she was invited to speak on mentoring LGBTQ university students at their annual conference. Dr. O’Keefe also serves as adjunct faculty at the Pepperdine University, Graduate School of Education and Training where her teaching repertoire includes psychopathology, diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders across the lifespan, group interventions, theories of counseling and psychotherapy, and intelligence and personality assessment. Dr. O’Keefe also is currently on the board of the California Psychological Association, Division II – Education and Training and she is on the board of the Orange County Equality Coalition. Dr. O’Keefe received her M.A. and her Psy.D. in clinical psychology at Pepperdine University, where her dissertation focused on mentoring of LGBTQ university students. Dr. O’Keefe also worked for many years as a musician in southern California having received a B.M. in trumpet performance at California State University, Long Beach, and an M.F.A. and D.M.A. in trumpet performance at the University of California, Los Angeles.

ELIGIBILITY
This 12-unit, graduate-level, online certificate program responds to the enormous demand for trained reading professionals with expertise in postsecondary settings - particularly at the community college level. This certificate also responds to the national mandate to ensure a quality workforce in postsecondary education, to solidify the purpose and role of appropriate professional preparation, and to continually update the knowledge and skills of those who practice in this field. This certificate addresses cutting-edge curriculum that corresponds to emerging needs in the profession and is also linked to the California mandate under AB 1725 for community college faculty who have either an MS in Reading or an MS in English with certification in Postsecondary Reading.

Candidates for admission must have completed a BS or BA from an accredited institution having achieved a minimum GPA of 2.5 in the last 60 semester units attempted for that degree. GENERAL INFORMATION COMPUTER ACCESS FOR HANDSON, ONLINE OR TITANIUM CLASSES You need to obtain your Username and Password in advance of accessing any CSUF computer and/or to participate in any online or TITANium (Moodle) managed class. Here’s how it works: • A PIN notification letter is sent to you by U.S. mail on your first registration with UEE. • The very first time you logon to the CSUF portal (www.fullerton.edu) you need to use your PIN as your Password and your Campus Wide I.D. (CWID) as your Username. • Following prompts, you will then be required to create a Username and Password. • Once you have completed this process, you will use your Username and Password to logon. You will no longer need to use your Campus Wide I.D. or PIN to logon. If you have questions, or have not been successful in obtaining your Username and Password, please contact UEE Student Services at 657.278.2611.
CLASS CHANGES AND WITHDRAWALS If you need to drop a class, you may do so in person, by phone, fax or mail through the Extended Education registration office, 657.278.2611. The day the form is received is the official date of withdrawal and determines the amount of refund, if any. (See “Refunds” for additional information.)
REFUNDS Refunds are based on the date official withdrawal is received in the Extended Education office. Allow up to six weeks for refunds via check. If you paid with a credit card, allow 7-10 business days for your refund to be credited back to your credit card.
