letter from the

I can’t believe it’s almost the end of our term. The term blew by so fast but it was also really jam packed. From in-person NMI to Awakeathon and beach clean ups, you all have made this term the best. I’m really proud of each and everyone of you have come out whether it be our meetings to our events and even fundraisers, who have contributed to this term. We have reached over 1,000 service hours and an average about 20 hours a member. You all should be proud of this accomplishment. As well, I hope you all had fun bonding with your family at your socials and also hanging out with your mentor or mentees. This term has been full of adventure, fun, and excitement, so let’s end this term strong. We only have about a month left, so let’s make it count. For the new members, I hope this term has been a great term this year and I hope you comeback next year to experience more. For our returning members, thank you so much for coming back and I hope you had fun this term and made some new memories. Especially for our graduating members, I wish you the best of luck on your journey outside of school and CKI, but always you have home here With that, let’s keep this good momentum going to the end of the term, and I’ll see you all at DCON and banquet!

HOUSINGAmerican Family

American Family House was such a fun event! We got to furnish newly built apartments with basic necessities like towels and soap. These apartments are going to homeless people to get back on their feet with a place to stay The organization and its leaders were so nice and we loved their mission statement. I would recommend all general members to attend their next service event!

Orange CountyChildren ' s Book t

My experience at the Orange County Children's Book Festival was truly memorable. We got told we were going to be volunteering at Justin Baldoni's signing booth! I had no clue who he was, but other volunteers were really excited because they were fans of Jane the Virgin Most of our job was just telling people that they needed to have a book in order to get in line, since a lot of people were really excited just to meet him and hadn't even bought the book! He was super nice and signed his book that some of the volunteers bought. Outside of Justin Baldoni, there were tons of children's authors at the event and it was super cool to walk around and see how many new children's books there are now. I hope that CKI volunteers at this event in the following years, and who knows what kind of celebrities our club members will meet next!

Service Marathon HALLOWEEN

The Halloween Service Marathon was great event put on!

Although I wasn’t able to stay for long, I was still able to participate in a multitude of service projects and get some hours done At this event there was a new project every few hours. While I was there, we were making cotton ghosts and care kits with Halloween drawing decorations. I always love these types of events because it makes it a bit easier to complete some service hours and you can come and go for as you please.

Service Marathon CSULBXUCSD

During the service marathon, I was a little nervous about going because it was probably one of the first service events I went to as a new member, so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but CSULB CKI members are always so welcoming, and the UCSD members were super nice as well. The place they picked out was pretty, it was a beautiful day, and we had a lot of activities planned out. We did a few icebreakers, which helped me get to meet and know more people in the club (people who I’m now very close with, so I’m super grateful). The service part of it was also fun, and there was a lot of crafts and creativity involved. Overall, it was a fun, laidback experience and CKI has helped me get out of my shell, socialize with others, and have a fun time volunteering

Awakeathon in my opinion was definitely one of the highlights for this year Being a family head for the club has been a very gratifying experience and being able to bond with members from my family and other families was really fun. Awakeathon did a great job of incorporating all three tenets of CKI by making sure the members in the club were able to engage in service activities while also being able to incorporate fellowship along with it My favorite activity from the event would definitely have to be the activities in which we competed alongside our families in various different games. This was amazing as it brought out everyone ' s competitive spirit while also making sure that everyone was enjoying their time at the event. I was really glad to be able to participate in such an amazing event and would definitely love to see it in the future!

LEADERSHIP LEADERSHIP LEADERSHIP

FallTraining Conference

The Fall Training Conference was a memorable experience. I got to meet CKI members from other districts, and we participated in different bonding activities and we got to go to different workshops. We also did very loud chants for a big part of the training conference It was very new to me, and I was taken by surprise when we did these chants since I was not expecting it. CKI members also prepared speeches and expressed their appreciation for us going. My favorite workshop was the meditation one and the dance one. I also loved the scenery of the forest. The atmosphere was really nice. There was a room with retro games that was also really fun. We also played team building games, and that was definitely pretty memorable. The experience was really fun, and I'd recommend it to anyone who is interested in participating in the Fall Training Conference this year.

BOARD BOARD MEETINGS MEETINGS

N I N M U N Y

I enjoyed attending our weekly fall board meetings because it allows us to interact with our board members as a whole and see what they’re up to with their position. It allows us to share our ideas with everyone and get feedback on what we can do to better improve our events or the way different aspects of the club function. Board meetings are also crucial to have because we discuss important matters that may arise in the club and ways to work them out. I appreciate having the opportunity to voice out any concerns and thoughts I have regarding the club and it is nice being able to hear my fellow board members express how they feel as well We also have check-in questions from time to time as a way to open up to the board and feel more connected to them by sharing other things going on in our lives besides CKI. Overall, I appreciate these fall board meetings especially with new members joining the club, because it gives us the chance to improve different parts of the club. 28

BOARD BOARD MEETINGS MEETINGS

B R I T I N Y M I

All the planning for the term happens at our board meetings. From large scale events such as Awake-a-thon to Week of Welcome tabling, all the magic and behind the scene work occurs here As a board, we want to give our members the most rewarding experiences and create moments they can enjoy while being part of the club. For example, we were able to discuss how we wanted to execute the first in-person New Member Induction, after it had been virtual the past few years, to make it the most worthwhile for our members. We are able to hear each other’s opinions and give input to one another as we create lasting memories with not only each other but for our members as well 29

GENERAL GENERAL MEETINGS MEETINGS

I've always found it fun that each of our general meetings had an individual theme- this meeting in particular had a theme of magic! It was lovely to see the cool slides that would be styled according to the theme and seeing our board members dress to the occasion. As someone who attended most general meetings that semester, there's always a good handful of members who regularly attend, but it's nice to see a few who popped in a few times during the semester. Regardless, everyone is warmly welcomed and we all had a good time with this meeting's icebreaker- throwing cards! Everyone had a chance to try their hand at tossing a card at a bullseye. It turned out one of us had a fair amount of experience with card throwing and showed us techniques on how to do it properly. He even tried hitting the bullseye from the back of the room! We recapped previous events, promoted upcoming ones, and gave a chance for everyone to share what's going on in their lives. The meetings have always been enjoyable to attend and it's always a good opportunity to get to know and catch up with our fellow members

BRAINSGAINS

Brain Gains with Board is a leadership study event in which general members join board members either in the USU, Library Basement, or through discord for a full night of studying. The first Brain Gains Night occurred during Fall 2022's Finals Week and we have continued this event for many nights now. Sometimes I'll host it for 3 days in a row to really promote that open study space for our members to join in and keep their study momentum strong. What is fun about Brain Gains is that after a couple hours of deep studying, we all reward ourselves with food that's open late right after. Whether it be driving to the nearest BJ's Restaurant for Pizookie Tuesdays or to In N Out for that midnight dinner, Brain Gains is our way of making sure that our general members keep a healthy balance of school and pleasure and that being a student can be a lot of fun!

NewMember InductionNight

A G U S T I N

New Member Induction is the year ' s biggest event, where all official CKI members find out about their club families and their mentor or mentee that will support them for the rest of the year. The pirate-themed scavenger hunt was planned so well- it ended up being one of my favorite parts of the event I remember running around the ballroom, following my hints, and eventually finding the treasure chest that revealed my family. When mentors and mentees were revealed, I loved seeing the surprised look each mentee gave when their mentee gave them a special welcome gift basket. Overall, the time, thought, and effort of this event is something that should not be left unappreciated. I am certain that I'm not the only person who would say that this event was unforgettable

Pumpkin Potluck social

The pumpkin potluck social was a very fun event to attend and really helped me get to know more of the CKI members, especially the new members for the year. We had to bring our own food to eat, and most of the members brought some really good food, snacks, and drinks to share After we all ate, we were free to decorate our pumpkins as we liked. I chose to make my pumpkin toothless from how to train your dragon. Throughout painting we all just talked to the people around us and overall made lots of conversation. After we finished, a couple of us just played some games that people brought such as hacky sack and took pictures We also were able to take lots of food home as there was much leftover to share. The event was overall a memorable event and I was able to make lots of new friends that day!

Friendsgiving Friendsgiving

What better way to spend the holiday break than with your friends! We had our Friendsgiving event this year at Signal Hilltop Park. Signal hill is a must go to place in Long Beach as it overlooks the beautiful city. This was a fun event because I got the chance to meet lots of new members as well as reconnect with old ones. This Friendsgiving was potluck style, so we had so much good food to munch on. We had pizza, lumpia, chips, pie, and so much more that we were all stuffed The afternoon was filled with activities like bracelet making, making tik tok videos, playing games, bonding with one another, and of course watching the sunset. Despite how cold it was, it was a fun afternoon filled with friends and food and of course we had to end the night getting boba

I attended the ice skating fundraiser and it was so much fun! I was a little nervous at first since I don't know how to ice skate. It was my first time ice skating in a while so it took a while to get used to! It was so nice to ice skate to get into the holiday spirit. The ice skating arena was so nice and decorated with holiday decorations. They had a projector playing christmas music videos so there was christmas music playing in the background as well. It was fun getting to ice skate for a while before just sticking to getting pushed around in the seal skating for the rest of the time lol. The experience overall was really fun and I was glad that I was able to attend and get over my fear of falling in the rink Overall, I had a great time!! 38

ULTIMATE LAST MAN STANDING

At Ultimate Last Man Standing, we use the time to prepare for our finals, do work or to relax with everyone around doing the same thing. This took place in the University Student Union, in one of the big study rooms like the Huntington Beach room. If people wanted to take a break and watch something, movies were played on the television with songs in which you can hear a good chunk of people singing to. We would grind out our work till super late at night and if we heard about something happening like free food being given out to students people would announce it and flood out of the room to get it and come back. The timing of the event was so good to relax that a majority of the group one night went out to gaze at the falling stars on the rooftop of the Hall of Science where the Astronomy Club was using their telescopes to look at the moon and Mars! Overall, this recurring event is a great way to relax or get in the mood to push through finals.

Naples Christmas Lights

B I N P H A M

Different emotions were in the air . Christmas was rounding the corner Christmas joy was filling up everyone ’ s lungs This all converged at the Christmas lights in Naples Long Beach. Around Christmas time, the neighborhoods of the Naples waterfront all contest each other for the best Christmas decorations, which leads to the sights that we have today, considered one of the prettiest Christmas sights in SoCal We first met up around the middle fountain, where once everyone was together, we walked as a huge mob around the entirety of Naples with all of us enjoying the views. All the houses were unique in their own ways, some houses even had a giant Grinch display! As CKI went around together, more than just joy was present, everyone just had a great time with each other. Different emotions would also arise around certain people, making the experience go from good to great. New connections were formed as everyone walked from bridge to bridge, crossing from street to street with nothing but feelings of happiness as we got to enjoy watching Christmas lights as a club. 40
