The Latest from CLC New Board 2007-2008 Officers CLC’s new Board officers were elected recently. Congratulations to Chair: Randi Ashton Pritting, Vice Chair: Roz Rubinstein, Treasurer: Anita Barney, and Secretary: Bernadette Baldino.

Trendspotting III Postponed—Attend Social Networking Instead The CLC Database Committee has decided to postpone Trendspotting III until the spring of 2008. As you all know, the fall calendar is getting jammed, and the date we had tentatively booked (October 19) has already been nailed for a similar, very exciting program sponsored by CLA's college and university section at CCSU. “Social Networking—Do You Know What Your Patrons Know?” will be a discussion of how public and academic libraries are responding to Web 2.0 technology and the demands of their users. Panelists John Blyberg of Darien Library will speak about "Successful Social Networking" and Kate Sheehan of Danbury Public Library will discuss uses for "LibraryThing for Libraries." For a direct link to the pdf registration flyer, go to www.ctlibraryassociation.org/ pdfs/culsReg.pdf.

Mark Your Calendars for the InfoAnytime Summit Where: Inn at Middletown When:

Thursday, October 25 from 9:30 to 1:00

Why:

To gear up InfoAnytime promotion for the 20072008 school year.

Up for discussion will be marketing tips from our own May Madness winners, info from the Virtual Reference symposium that Carl Antonucci, Amy Terlaga, and Kirsten Kilborn attended this summer in Denver, content for media promotion, ideas from Tutor.com, and sharing input from all participating libraries.

Want to Go to BEA in LA? BEA in LA? Can we do it? Remember June 2007 when three busloads of Connecticut librarians (courtesy of Holtzbrinck Publishers!) went to BookExpo America in New York? What do you think? Would 100 of us be game to fly to the City of Angels for BookExpo America on May 29 - June 1, 2008 at the LA Convention Center? BEA's Steve Rosato says that there is an option to contract with a specific airline for a deep discount, but we would need to sell 100+ tickets! Tempted? Go to www.ctlibrarians.org and sign up online to state your interest. We'll keep a rolling count of Connecticut librarians who are California Dreamin', and if there are enough of us so inclined by January 2008, we'll get serious about pursuing this option. Questions? Contact Chris Bradley at cbradley@ctlibrarians.org.

Free Trial for Online SAT Prep PrepMe, one of the leading online SAT companies, has recently launched a program that lets every student use its 80-hour, online SAT course with a valid library card. The course is available as a low-cost subscription that patrons can use for free from home, or the library with their current public library card. Each student begins the course with a series of diagnostic tests. From the results of the tests, the student is then provided with a customized schedule of exercises and tests designed to significantly improve their comprehension. As the student makes progress, the course constantly adjusts the curriculum to provide an ideal learning path for each student. PrepMe.com is the exclusive SAT provider for the State of Maine and has demonstrated a 305 average score increase for its clients.

CLC Dues Reminder

CLC invites all public library managers to a demonstration of the program at the Fairfield Public Library on September 5 and 7 at 10 am with Rick Bolton, who will demonstrate how the program works and answer any questions. You can contact Rick anytime at 203.375.3432, or at rbolton72@yahoo.com.
