SID MILLER TEXAS AGRICULTURE COMMISSIONER
INTERVIEW WITH SID MILLER BY CHARLES LINGERFELT Charles: What did you Do before you ran for office? 2.) When did you first run for Office and for which office? Sid Miller: I’ve been a farmer, rancher and small businessman most of my life, while also serving as an vocational ag teacher. Before I first ran for Texas Agriculture Commissioner in 2014, I served in the Texas House of Representatives for several terms. Charles: Are you a native Texan? Sid Miller: Yes, I am a native Texan. I was born in a little town called De Leon, Texas west of Stephenville. Charles: How long have you been a Rancher in Texas? Sid Miller: I’ve been involved in either farming or ranching my entire life. As a matter of fact, I’m an eighth-generation farmer and rancher. My family was already farmers when they first came to Texas in the 1800’s. Charles: How does being a Rancher help you in the current position you hold? Sid Miller: I have found that in my role as a lawmaker in the Texas House and now as Agriculture Commissioner, my background as a farmer and rancher gives me a grounding in reality that is useful in making policy decisions. I’ve turned the dirt. I’ve run cattle and horses. So I know firsthand the challenges our ag producers face every day. Whether it's low commodity prices or bad weather, these challenges make farm families tough and resolute. The last thing they need is the government making things worse, so my goal is to always keep that in mind when making decisions. That’s the kind of understanding that comes with being an 8th generation farmer and rancher. Others might call it common sense, but I call it “cowboy logic!” Charles: How many years have you served the people of Texas and in what capacities? Sid Miller: In terms of public service, I have been in elected office since 2000 when I was first elected to the Texas House of Representatives for District 59.
CHRISTIAN TIMES MAGAZINE | PAGE 05
Charles: Are you a Christian? How long have you been a Christian? Sid Miller: Yes I am a Christian. I have been an elder in the Erath County Cowboy Church for some time now. Charles: How does being a Christian help you in your current Position in Texas? Sid Miller: Being a brother in Christ is the foundation for everything I do and believe. So it not only helps me as a public servant but as a husband, father, and grandfather. I ask for God’s guidance in all things, especially making decisions that will affect others. As a side note, as Texas Ag Commissioner, I do a lot of interviews. TV, radio, and everything in between. Before every interview, I pause to ask for God to guide my thoughts and words to bring glory to him. Sometimes it's more successful than others! I always speak from the heart but sometimes my mouth gets in the way!
history and our people and they can do their part to keep Texas great. And I’d remind them that at some point in their life, they may need a good doctor or a good lawyer, God forbid! But I’d also remind them that every day, three times a day, they’re gonna need a farmer. So thank a farmer, because Texas Agriculture Matters! Charles: If You had a message you wanted to get to All Americans - What would it be? Sid Miller: If you need to see what the promise of freedom and hope can deliver, then look to Texas. Texas is a beacon for liberty, freedom, respect for life, free enterprise and rugged individualism. The rest of the nation can learn a lot from the Lone Star State. Charles: Have you ever served in the U S Military? If so, what Branch? Sid Miller: I have not served in the military.
Charles: Are You a Pro-Life Advocate? Have you ever wavered?
Charles: What do your duties entail as Commissioner of Agriculture?
Sid Miller: Never wavered. As a Christian and a Republican, I have always been staunchly pro-life. A member of the Texas House I passed the state sonogram bill requiring expectant mothers to conduct a sonogram before choosing abortion. I was vilified by the left and the media. But that law is the one legislative accomplishment of which I am most proud. It will enlighten and empower mothers considering the tragic act of abortion and consequently protect the unborn. As a matter of fact, as a House member, I was named Pro-Life Legislator of the Year by Texas Right to Life.
Sid Miller: As Texas Commissioner of Agriculture, I wear many hats. I serve as the chief regulator and advocate for the Texas agriculture industry, including farmer and ranching. I am also the consumer protection chief for Texas, including the oversight and regulation of pesticides and weights and measurements. This responsibility gives us authority to regulate devices used to sell anything by weight, volume, or other measurements. That’s why the Texas Department of Agriculture has responsibility for grocery scales and fuel pumps, to name a few. As Ag Commissioner, I also have a responsibility to help open markets here at home and around the world for products made or grown in Texas. Texas produces the best stuff on earth, so one of the great aspects of this job is my role as an advocate for those products. Finally, as Agriculture Commissioner, one of my biggest responsibilities is to oversee the school nutrition programs here in Texas. The Texas Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Division administers 12 federal child and special nutrition programs for the State of Texas.
Charles: Are You a believer in The Second Amendment? Do You believe in 'The Right to Carry?' Sid Miller: Lifelong believer in the Second Amendment. Because of my strong Second Amendment voting record, I’ve always had an A+ rating with the National Rifle Association and the Texas State Rifle Association. Charles: If you had a message to get out now to All Texans, what would that message be? Sid Miller: Be proud to be a Texan. No matter where you come from, we welcome you here and once you get here, learn our history and help celebrate our heritage. Texas is the last great place on earth and I always strive to keep it that way. So I’d want to remind all Texans that this is a special place because of our

You’d better have a tough hide. Running for office can be a tough business, especially for pro-life, Christian conservative Republicans. The media is always on the attack and that doesn’t go away once you win. If you win and hope to change things for the better, you’re going to face criticism. But stick to your guns, remember your principles and ignore the personal attacks. As David Crockett said, “be sure you’re right, then go ahead . . .” Charles: Which political party do You claim? Why? Sid Miller: I am and always will be a Republican. The Republican party is still the only party that believes in economic freedom, the protection of the unborn, and American exceptionalism. Charles: How does your position in Texas correlate with The Lieutenant Governor? The Governor? Sid Miller: We are all elected statewide. In Texas, the Agriculture Commissioner is elected statewide just like Governor, Lt.Governor, Comptroller, Attorney General, Land Commissioner, and Railroad Commissioners. Charles: What is your position on Border Security in Texas? Sid Miller: Texas, perhaps more than anywhere else in the country, understands the need for strong border security. Our southern border with Mexico is the longest international border of any state and must be kept strong. Without strong border security, our national sovereignty is at risk. As a side note, Texas farmers and ranchers are also big supporters of strong border security. With some of our largest farms and ranches along the southern border, they understand that we need a strong border and a common-sense legal immigration system. Charles: Are you for the Building of The Border Wall? Sid Miller: I am not only for building the wall, but I am also for finishing the wall. Texas already has hundreds of miles of border fencing, walls, and other barriers. We just need to finish the job because not having a wall is immoral. The moral thing to do is to direct anyone wishing to enter the United States through legal ports of entry rather than have them dying of thirst in the desert. A wall will do just that. Take away the option from the coyotes of crossing through the unpopulated, harsh desert areas by building a wall, leaving only legal ports of entry. Charles: Are you compatible with Former President Trump's agenda? Do You still Support President Trump?
Sid Miller: I was one of the earliest and loudest supporters of the former President Trump here in Texas. He and I both share a dislike and distrust of the liberal media and a love for social media as a tool to take away their power. When everyone was counting on Hillary to win, I was the one on Fox and Friends saying that Trump was going to win big, in Texas and across the nation. Everyone thought I was some crazy guy in a white cowboy hat when I said that Trump would win Texas with double digits. I was right.

Restoring the Republic with Advanced Citizenship BY CHRIS GRAHN HOWARD | CHRISTIAN TIMES MAGAZINE COLUMNIST
In the current political environment, people are worried about freedoms and their rights. The true nature of our Republic is in peril. If we want to protect and defend our rights, ensure that our shared Christian heritage is secured, and support the Republic, we must hold our elected officials accountable. In this American Republic, we have more than just the right to vote, and we have advanced Citizenship. Many countries allow the people to vote; it is just democracy or the appearance of democracy. Americans have advanced Citizenship and the Constitutional Republic. With advanced Citizenship, we have a greater expectation to do more than vote. Americans tend to forget the United States is not a true Democracy but a Constitutional Republic. This Constitutional Republic uses the democratic method by which to elect our representatives. We, the people, must be involved, hold elected officials accountable, and most of all know what the role of government is and is not. We, the People (Christians especially), need to be informed to the point where we understand how the system works. We, the people, are essentially the fourth branch of government. The ultimate check and balance, just as God is our ultimate judge. Advanced Citizenship is more than just being born with it or just voting. Exercising all the rights of Citizenship is a matter of responsibility. Establishment Republicans and Democrats get away with what they do because too few people are informed enough to hold them accountable. The people gave them the power to make this mess. If we want to restore our Republic, we must get people involved and prepared to make informed decisions at the ballot box and beyond. We must be intentional in holding all elected officials accountable all the time. They need to hear from us regularly. They must look over their shoulders every time they get ready to vote. Currently, they do not, at least not often enough. Not to mention the hyper-vocal minorities within each party that dominate the debate in the marketplace of ideas.

True Globalist Liberals were shocked and saddened that the Soviet Union's demise did not lead to a universal global economy and the erasure of borders; they demanded a social liberal global society. The return to the old history for many of these nations spelled failure to the liberal democracy movement. The ability of this Republic to be just and honest relies on the morality and ethics of the citizenry, whether Christian or not. The Republic's power is based on the rule of law and not revenge- greed- or avarice; one cannot talk of real Justice, real Liberty, total Freedom, and real Prosperity without those who serve to be just and moral. The Christian tradition provides the best example. Despite the failings of people, it is our best hope.
Presidential, Congressional, and Judicial power. As Christians, now is not the time to relax. Instead, we must be more diligent than ever. In part, policies are being developed in our name, and we must be involved in these decisions. Prayerful accountability is how we accomplish it. involvement in local, state, and federal elections. If time and treasure are an issue, focus on the local elections and processes. Local elections are where the "bench of candidates" is developed. Candidates for federal offices usually started on school boards, municipal offices; others jumped into the statehouses. Our Republic needs your involvement, your exercising of your advanced Citizenship.

The Historical truth about the Autumn Harvest Feast, Fun Facts about Turkeys, and What the Pilgrims Taught Us By J.P. Sloane, D.Min., Ph.D. Thanksgiving, America's first great and beloved tradition, is quickly approaching as 2021 nears its close. The first Thanksgiving feast was in 1621 in Plymouth, Massachusetts. It was known as the "Autumn Harvest Feast," and it lasted for three days! Every year we honor America's very first Thanksgiving by fellowshipping and praying with friends and family together for what has become our traditional Thanksgiving Day dinner. Sadly, in today's cancel culture, if did a quick Internet search for "Thanksgiving holiday," we might be surprised to find that many search results questioned the American historical event in 1621. The unfortunate truth is that we live in a time where revisionist history is taught, and our Christian values are erased. Because Christianity is under attack by the Marxist media, political swamp, and government-run schools, we are subjected to many cancel culture agendas; the rewriting of Thanksgiving is but one of the casualties. Some of the books in our children's public school state that the meaning of Thanksgiving is a celebration of the Pilgrims giving thanks to the Indians for helping them develop "maze" (what we now refer to as "corn") as a food source to keep them from starving through a long and terrible winter. That is partially true. Traditionally, history tells us that the gathering of 50 Pilgrims, along with 90 Indians from the Wampanoag Tribe, was a shared feast celebrating their friendship and their newly-found bounty by giving thanks—not to the Indians—but God. Turkeys were also thankful that first Thanksgiving in 1621 because they were not on the menu. Instead, the feast consisted of venison (deer), waterfowl, and seafood, but William Bradford, the governor of the Plymouth Colony for 30 years, talked about hunting turkey during the Autumn season. Putting all that aside, it is generally agreed on that turkey became the traditional main course in America when, in 1863, President Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, in an attempt to unite the country during the Civil War, declared the first annual Thanksgiving holiday. It would become the fourth Thursday of every November, so what inspired President Lincoln to proclaim Thanksgiving as a national holiday? The children's nursery rhyme author of "Mary Had a Little Lamb," Sarah Josepha Buell Hale, was a tireless crusader for honoring the first Autumn Harvest Feast. Over a 36-year-long campaign, her efforts culminated with President Lincoln proclaiming the Pilgrims' historical event as "a day of Thanksgiving and Praise."Sarah became known as the "godmother of Thanksgiving."

And so [we] assigned to every family a parcel of land, according to the proportion of their number for that end…. This had a very good success; for it made all hands very productive, so as much more corn was planted and harvested than otherwise would have been by any means with more than enough for the governor or any other could use, and saved them a great deal of trouble, and gave them far better provisions. The women now went willingly into the field and took their little ones with them to plant the corn, which before seemed burdensome and poorly done, because those women were forced to work unwillingly in the fields thinking it to be a great tyranny and oppression. (NOTE: We have taken the liberty with some of Bradford's Old English words and phrases and translated or paraphrased them to help clarify his meaning and intent.) This private ownership allowed the Pilgrims to take care of their own families first and barter for those things they needed to supplement their needs. Being in control of their own labor instilled pride in their work because they were no longer being forced to provide for everybody else, including lazy ones who did not pull their weight. Today we call that "capitalism," which proved to be the saving grace for the Plymouth Colony by providing the Pilgrims with a healthy and prosperous outcome. Today, America finds itself having just passed a fork in the road, with at least half of us realizing we are headed down the wrong path of socialism. Americans have also just lived through a year where we all felt the constraints of big government, a government that picked winners and losers by allowing which business could open and which business must remain closed. The government also forbids Americans from gathering together to worship our God. These restraints by the government can be nothing less than a forerunner of totalitarianism. To be forewarned is to be forearmed. Therefore, let us be thankful the Pilgrims survived to show us a better way through their failed encounter with socialistic communism and survived to show us a better way which —if we are willing to learn from their history, we may correct our mistake before it's too late. Despite all the challenges set before us as a nation—whether we wake up before it is too late or not—whether we are living in the Last Days or not—one thing we know is certain as we read in the back of the Book—we win, and that is something for which to be really thankful! So, HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE! Lest we succumb to the reality of where we find ourselves and our country today, let us remember, like the Pilgrims, many of us are Christians.

Thanksgiving with American Families By Lainie Sloane Thanksgiving Day is one of America's favorite holidays. Hopefully, this year, most of us will be celebrating our freedoms in person with family and friends—new and old —not virtually—where we'll circle cozy fires as the beautiful sound of laughter fills the rooms. We will enjoy the fun of catching up with those we haven't seen for a while. Grandmas will joyfully hug their grandchildren, while others will be watching bowl games and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade as the aroma from our favorite foods float through the air.

The #1 Sin in America: Ingratitude By Mickey Nichols Dr. Homer G. Lindsay, former Pastor of First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Fl., made a statement in a sermon in 1977 that at first glance puzzled me greatly. He said, "The #1 sin in America today is the sin of ingratitude." How can this be, I wondered, when we have so much murder, robbery, hatred, and so many other hurtful sins? I noticed in my Bible notes that he had repeated the exact same phrase in 1981, 1987, and 1992 and probably some other times when I had failed to hear it or note it. I had begun to think that if it was this important to him and to the Lord that it had darn well better be important to me! What he had been trying to get across to me (us, everyone, all, the whole crowd!) was that unthankfulness is the antithesis of worship! In simple terms, thankfulness IS worship! Thankfulness IS praise! Without thankfulness one cannot acknowledge that God is indeed God! If we were to fully know and understand just how much God loves us and how He has presented a plan for us that if we believe it and accept it we can spend an eternity with Him in all His glory, then I think we would all become as a child receiving his or her first bike, or a first football or piano. Maybe these are old fashioned toys and more up to date ones would be a new Xbox or Virtual streamer but I hope you are beginning to get the idea. Being thankful takes practice. Just as athletes work out and train to improve their games or develop their muscles, we as Christians must practice thanksgiving just as we practice prayer or sharing. Dr. Lindsay started many of us younger Christians on the road to always be in a mode of thankfulness by using a very simple method: he had us make a list of 100 things that we were thankful for at that very moment. I started slowly but gained momentum the more and longer I listed items. One of the items I listed (at his suggestion!) is memory. As I wrote the word MEMORY the Lord flashed into my mind several sweet memories. One particularly vivid remembrance is a Thanksgiving

What does this have to do with thankfulness? Well, this is just just one example of what we have to be thankful for. I still have in my Bible my original list of 100 things to be thankful for but as I have aged through the years the list has grown to literally thousands of things and still continues to get bigger. Thankfulness can be learned if we work at it! It is NOT rocket science. My suggestion is the same as Dr. Lindsay's. Make your own list of 100 items and start being thankful for them. Ask the Lord to bring to your attention the things you need to concentrate on. As your "thankful muscle" strengthens you will add to your list and begin to see everyday happenings as a chance to be more thankful. Romans 1:21 and 1:22 remind us what can and will happen if we're NOT thankful. "Professing themselves to be wise, they became as fools". Don't know about you but I don't want to be in that crowd! Our society today has become an entitled, "me first" society. Hardly anyone thinks about the welfare of others and certainly would not go out of one's way to help someone less fortunate. And it looks as if the world is not going to improve on what is currently happening so those of us who know the truth really need to step up our game and show our mates, our families and loved ones, and our friends how thankful we are. I realize I have used the word "thankful" many times in this article but......you know what? Thankfulness can NEVER be overdone simply because it is a pure and simple form of worship. True thankfulness is true worship because being thankful shows that we recognize God as omnipotent. He relishes our thankfulness....He loves our thankfulness....He deserves our thankfulness. My wife, family, and I wish you and yours a truly Happy Thanksgiving! Mickey Nichols

TEAM PLAYERS By Pastor Robert Summers, SENIOR PASTOR Mountain Creek Church Dallas, Texas

company with, to strive together, contend jointly. From athleo, to contend in a public match As a school boy I played a lot of backyard basketball all by myself. I was always a stand out star player. Often I would steal the ball, then make a fast run for a lay up basket to win the game—in the last seconds of play! Only problem: I was in my own backyard, not on the basketball court. It was pure fantasy. Yes, I did go on to play on the school teams. But the real game was a big difference. It required total teamwork, hours and hours of drilling together, feeding the ball to others and passing it around the court, interacting with the other teammates. Practice! Practice! Help others score a shot. Some people have never played on a team. Yet the New Testament uses the expressions “together” and “one another” almost 200 times. I understand the benefits of teamwork, having been raised in a good sized family. Working together was absolutely required. But we also had time for band, sports, afternoon jobs, and Scouts. Teamwork was pretty much a lifestyle everywhere in my world. Do you aspire to ministry? Then you must surrender a “Lone Ranger” mindset. Team Church is the name of the game. Iron sharpens iron! We accomplish real victories only through teamwork. Anyone who does not understand this should not desire church ministry. There is no room to be self-centered. Period. Don't swell up when the coach corrects your moves. He's only trying to help you get it right—so you can be a winner.
The human body functions as a unit. So should the Body of Christ. You cannot make a ball team of one player, or a symphony of one, nor a church of one. It takes at least two or three gathered together in the name of Christ to form a productive, functioning unit. This is why Jesus prayed that each of us would be all in as one unit, one people serving the cause of the Kingdom. You do not lose your individual identity in togetherness. You discover all you can be, all you were meant to be when you come into the company of the committed. When we are living in the light we have fellowship with one another. 1 John 1:7 Join the team. You'll love real victories.
