Unit 24 task 1 Name: Lara Young What are the reasons for editing digital sound files? The digital sound editing is selecting and editing process for sound this is used in TV and radio to make the final product to a quality standard. The reason we use digital sound editing is to stop bad quality sound from entering the final product like white noise and echoes. If this enters the audio and doesn’t not get editing out by digital sound editing it can sound messy and unorganised which could damage the company’s reputation. Also the reason we sound edit is to stop any inappropriate or unwanted materials like strong or inappropriate language entering the programme, if this does enter the programme it would be very unprofessional and if younger viewers hear this then there would be complaints. Furthermore to make sure that the text is in chronological order and in the right place so it would make sense and be produced to a professional standard. Finally the reason we sound edit is to get rid of things that are boring and not relevant.

What is ethical editing? Why is ethical editing so important? Ethical editing is making sure the editor is staying true to the content for example if they are an editor of a newspaper they need to make sure they don’t lie about facts to make the story more interesting because it would be morally wrong. For example in a documents the editors have to retain original intention like if it was about world hunger and the editors lied about statics then the whole documentary would be wrong. This means that people wouldn’t trust the company that made the documentary and wouldn’t trust the company who made it. So it might have a negative effect on them because it means they would loss viewers. Also if the company wasn’t being ethical then it wouldn’t be fair on the people who are victim to it because people are being misled. Ethical editing is to make sure that the truth is recorded and it doesn’t tell lies and make sure it has the original facts.

Why must speech remain legal? Does it breach any laws? The reason speech must remain legal is because the human right is to have freedom of speech even if it’s hateful and wrong lie racism . The reason its legal is because it allows you to express yourself through the power of speech. It allows humans to make progress and move forward in society. Having freedom of speech part of living in a democracy. However you can’t interview someone and manipulate what they said by twisting it and using it against them because this breaches the law of freedom of speech.

Example No1: Provide an example where sound has been edited? The example I have chosen is the lip sync I did with Orange is the New Black. The example where sound has been edited is at the begging of the scene where the noise has been cut because the audio was too long so the audio didn’t match up to the lips. There was cutting up all of the unwanted and dead sound to make it in time with the video. This makes the audio make flow a lot better. Also a noise gate was added to control the frequency which stops any hissing this was added at the part when Crazy eyes said “it’s a miracle”. In this part there was a lot of hissing from the outside noise which I added a noise gate to stop this and to edit out the dead noise. After this was added it made the audio flow a lot better and the audio was a lot smoother. The program I used was logic.

Unit 24 task 1 Name: Lara Young Example No2: Provide an example where sound has been edited? My final example is the Cillit bang advert what was edited on logic. This has been edit the reason they have had done this is to get a large amount of information in a small amount of time. The reason they have cut the audio is to get rid of any dead sound. It makes the audio flow well and it makes the final product come out a professional quality. Also the dramatic shouting emphasis the product.

How do you know the content is factual? You know if the context is factual if there is video evidence of someone saying and doing it. Also list dates and times when it happened. Also were they got if from. If they got they used it from the internet they have to give the URL so you can see were you got it from. Also they have to give the person name and profession if it professional advice. This makes the product seem more legit and trustworthy.

What are the reasons factual content is edited? The reason it might be edited is the content might be too long so they might shorten it down to get the main parts of information in. However in the rare occasion the editor might twist what the person is saying to make the person sound either good or bad. The reason it might be edited is the content might be too long so they might shorten it down to get the main parts of information in. However in the rare occasion the editor might twist what the person is saying to make the person sound either good or bad. Can you provide 3 different types of fictional content? The first example is the fictional TV programme the Inbetweeners. An example of a fictional movie is Harry Potter and the documentary (mockumentary) like Borat. How do you know the content is fictional? You know if the content is fake if it is unable to happen in real life like in Harry Potter there is magic and mythical animals that talk. Also if there is no evidence or record of it the incidence happing. Furthermore, if you’re not sure you can always find out more by googling it and looking up articles on it. The reason this might be entertaining for people because it is unable to happen in the real world and it is away to escape from reality. What are the reasons fictional content is edited? If they want to edit any magical effects they do this through a green screen and CGI. If it’s a gunshot they edit in a gun sound and the shot to avoid any injury. The reason for editing it is to make the fictional seem real. Also editing it in a way that to make the programme more entertaining for the audience
