It was a cool shoot this month for the Centerfold and extra pictures for the Expanded web Edition. Danielle, one of those awesome servers that look after us and make us feel at home at the Dog gave us a St. Patty Day theme. Good chance from the other great shots on our Facebook page and Web Edition Danielle will be on the cover too and perhaps handing out CTM at some truck shows. To the right, below Danielle, is the great guys from Xp3 and the Booth 60148 in the West wing of MATS where Russ Haag & Kevin Lambert will demonstrate Xp3 right before your eyes with every test that will convince you that this Fuel Upgrader is something you should not do with out. I first met Kevin & Russ in Oklahoma at the OOIDA first truck show they ever put on. Russ & Kevin were putting on demos for the members, which I am proudly one, and I could not believe the results. I took a bottle and put Xp3 in the diesel F250 I was driving back to Canada and saw results straight away.
4
I don’t want to turn my column into an Xp3 commercial with the cost of diesel these days driver, and I can save you big bucks with a tip, I am going to do it. That’s why I let Xp3 advertise in our magazine here, it works!
Hey don’t forget to give me a shout on facebook if you are at MATS so we can meet up for coffee. I will be hanging around Marc taking pictures for a bit, meeting up with Bruce Querel and Richard Wiebe from Querel Trailers and of course the Xp3 booth and the entire west wing for all the neat swag. Bottom corner a camera just to remind you if you don’t have a lick and stick yet, get one. On the next page 7, Seaforth has the Best ones you can get, tested and the unit itself guaranteed for a year. There are a lot out there that all look the same on the outside, but fail in the software department. CTM backs the cameras Seaforth sells and uses them.
Check out the “Where’s Chucky” on page 26 and watch for us on the road for swag and prizes. I will plug the facebook with loads of great pictures from MATS! I like to say again thanks for reading CTM and I look forward to hearing from you, than about you. See you on the road..... Be safe my friends! Happy Trails.....

The Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS) is the largest annual heavy-duty trucking industry event in the world. Held each year at the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville, KY, the show attracts 70,000+ attendees and 1,000+ exhibitors from throughout the United States and abroad. No other show offers more under one roof than the annual Mid-America Trucking Show. The Mid-America Trucking Show began in the early 1970's, when a private management group was formed by Paul K. Young, to create the largest and most diversified trucking show in the United States of America. The first Mid-America Trucking Show was held in 1972 with 83 Exhibitors and 4000 visitors in attendance. The show occupied a portion of the West Wing of the original Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center. Since that time, The Mid-America Trucking Show has grown steadily, first filling the West Hall of the mammoth KY Fair & Exposition Center, then expanding to the larger East Hall. The show continued to grow throughout the 80's spilling over to auxiliary Hall A, then also into auxiliary Hall B. With the completion of the new South Wing of the KY Fair & Exposition Center in 1991, The Mid-America Trucking Show was able to meet what had become an overwhelming demand for space. Almost half a million square feet of space was taken up by 650 Exhibitors and more than 35,000 people attending in just three days, making it the largest Trucking Show in the Western Hemisphere!
The next major growth phase of The Mid-America Trucking Show occurred in 1994, when the South Wing Phase II expansion was immediately filled by the Show. 160,000 square feet of exhibit space was added, along with additional outside exhibits. The 1997 Mid-America Trucking Show once again expanded to meet the ever increasing demand. The show's expansion into the West Wing of the KY Fair & Exposition Center gave Mid-America 1,000,000 square feet of show space hosting some 1058 exhibiting companies! The 2000 Mid-America Trucking Shows was the largest trucking show ever seen in the Western Hemisphere with over 70,000 registered Attendees from every state in the union and 44 countries. The 2002 Mid-America Trucking Show proved to be a tremendous success for the trucking industry and especially for the 980 companies that exhibited. The show included a wide array of companies and products with Exhibitors from 47 states and 9 foreign countries. Once again, the aisles of the show stayed grid locked from show opening to show close with a final attendance total of 68,164 Attendees. The 2006 show marked the next major growth of the show as the South Wing C Expansion project was completed adding approximately 160,000 sq. ft. of Class A exhibit space, bringing the show to well over 1 million square feet of exhibit space throughout the South, West, East and Pavilion. This addiitonal space seemed to vanish as quickly as it came on-line. The expansion enabled the 2006 show to break all previous records for attendance, number of exhibiting companies, and total square footage. By the close of the show, 1,144 Exhibitors had occupied more than 1 million sq. ft. indoors and 200,000 sq.ft. outdoors; showcasing the latest products and services to a record breaking 80,291 trucking professionals from around the world In 2008, the East Wing of the Kentucky Exposition Center was completely demolished and the new North Wing was erected in its place. The North Wing renovation project provides a more modern Class A exhibition space with higher Added Content Pages
ceilings, fewer support columns, and a widened path from the South Wing/East Hall. In addition, the renovation project included an overhead pedway to allow those parking in the rear of the facility to access the 35,000 sq. ft. North Wing Lobby without walking through the North Wing. The new wing made a significant impression on Attendees and Exhibitors alike as 1,174 Exhibitors and 76,563 trucking professionals participated in the largest heavyduty trucking event in history. In fact, MATS 2008 set the record for Exhibitor participation and demolished the previous record for size of show by more than 50,000 sq.ft. In the year 2011, the Mid-America Trucking Show celebrated an impressive four decades as the world’s most important heavyduty trucking industry event. As the country’s economy slowly started to regain its footing, this resurgence was reflected at Mid-America’s 40th Anniversary event. 1,039 exhibiting companies from 47 states and 9 foreign countries showcased their products and services to
yet another remarkable crowd of 76,179 attendees. Like the resourceful industry that MATS represents, it had weathered the economic storm and set its sights on a more prosperous future. Further building on the momentum from the previous year, the Mid-America Trucking Show exceeded its own lofty expectations in 2012. This particular show was the inaugural year for the MATS Fleet Forum, a special event found only at the Mid-America Trucking Show. This milestone gathering of fleet executives and industry elite, produced in conjunction with Fleet Owner & Heavy Duty Trucking Magazines, provided those lucky enough to attend an extensive outlook into the ever evolving landscapes of equipment and trucking. The support MATS receives from the heavy-duty industry was again made clear as 1,070 of trucking’s most renowned companies encompassed over 1,200,000 sq.ft. of exhibit space. The all-time attendance record was also shattered when 80,972 qualified attendees assembled in Louisville for what many have since dubbed the “Best Mid-America Trucking Show Ever”.

By Dawn Truell ~ CBS ~ Bill C-51.. Anti-terrorism Act, 2015
We are all hearing and reading in the news about this new anti-terrorism act that is being dictated, yes I said dictated, to us. I’ve seen comments in the newspaper quoting government officials saying “the jihadist terrorists have declared war on Canada because these they hate our society and our values here”. I often wonder why the government, when they bring out these new “Acts” why they don’t provide the factual information about the details of the Act to us public citizens. Everyone is speculating, so government officials. .What exactly is this Act and does it actually affect all of us? Here are some details about the Act to better inform you. An Act to enact the Security of Canada Information Sharing Act and the Secure Air Travel Act, to amend the Criminal Code, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service Act and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and to make related and consequential amendments to other Acts. Part 1: Security of Canada Information Sharing Act, authorizing Government of Canada institutions to disclose information to Government of Canada institutions that have jurisdiction or responsibilities in respect of activities that undermine the security of Canada. Part 2: Secure Air Travel Act, provides new legislative framework for identifying and responding to persons who may engage in an act that poses a threat to transportation security or who may travel by air for the purpose of committing a terrorism offence. Authorizing the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to establish a list of such persons and to direct air carriers to take any necessary actions to prevent the commission of such acts. Powers and prohibitions governing the collection, use and disclosure of information in support of its
10
administration and enforcement. Administrative recourse process for listed persons who have been denied transportation in accordance with a direction from the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness and provides appeal procedures for persons affected by any decision or action taken under that Act. Punishment for contraventions of listed provisions. Minister of Transport to conduct inspections and issue compliance orders. Consequential amendments to the Aeronautics Act and the Canada Evidence Act. Part 3 amends the Criminal Code to keep the peace relating to a terrorist activity or a terrorism offence, extend their duration, provide for new thresholds, authorize a judge to impose sureties and require a judge to consider whether it is desirable to include in a recognizance conditions regarding passports and specified geographic areas, allow hearings to be conducted by video conference and orders to be transferred to a judge in a territorial division other than the one in which the order was made and increase the maximum sentences for breach of those recognizances. Amends Criminal Code providing for an offence of knowingly advocating or promoting the commission of terrorism offences in general. It also provides a judge with the power to order the seizure of terrorist propaganda or, if the propaganda is in electronic form, to order the deletion of the propaganda from a computer system. Amends Criminal Code to provide for the increased protection of witnesses, in particular of persons who play a role in respect of proceedings involving security information or criminal intelligence information, and makes consequential amendments to other Acts.
Part 4 amends the Canadian Security Intelligence Service Act to permit the Canadian Security Intelligence Service to take, within and outside Canada, measures to reduce threats to the security of Canada, including measures that are authorized by the Federal Court. Authorizes Federal Court to make an assistance order to give effect to a warrant issued under that Act. Creates new reporting requirements for the Service and requires the Security Intelligence Review Committee to review the Service’s performance in taking measures to reduce threats to the security of Canada. Part 5 amends Divisions 8 and 9 of Part 1 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act to, among other things, (a) Define obligations related to the provision of information in proceedings under that Division 9; (b) Authorize the judge, on the request of the Minister, to exempt the Minister from providing the special advocate with certain relevant information that has not been filed with the Federal Court, if the judge is satisfied that the information does not enable the person named in a certificate to be reasonably informed of the case made by the Minister, and authorize the judge to ask the special advocate to make submissions with respect to the exemption; and (c) Allow the Minister to appeal, or to apply for judicial review of, any decision requiring the disclosure of information or other evidence if, in the Minister’s opinion, the disclosure would be injurious to national security or endanger the safety of any person. Our Prime Minister said “almost all Canadians agree” with his government’s position on this. Keep in mind, the U.S.A. has had a similar Bill in effect for many years, this is not new news here.
Basically Bill C-51 gives our CSIS Officers more power to aid in the stopping of any or all terrorism acts and or plans to commit terrorism acts be it land, sea or air travel. I’m not saying that I am for or against this new Bill but I will say this, would we all not sleep better at night knowing that there is someone out there that has our backs to protect us from potential harm? Canada is a proud country and does not believe in prejudices. The CBSA says the suspect displayed a "violent and extremist mindset" in allegedly plotting to kill people and destroy property in Toronto. The alleged plot involved plans to bomb the U.S. consulate in Toronto and other targets in the city's financial district.
A Pakistani man has been arrested in connection with a suspected terror plot against the United States consulate in Toronto, CTV News has learned. The Canada Border Services Agency says Jhanzab Malik was arrested on Monday on suspicion of "engaging in terrorism and being a danger to national security."
Malik arrived in Canada on a student visa in 2004, CTV News has learned. He obtained permanent resident status in 2009 with his wife as his sponsor. Malik first appeared on the CBSA's radar when he was questioned by border guards and intelligence agents upon his arrival at Toronto's Pearson International Airport on a flight from Libya in 2013. Malik claimed he had been teaching in Libya and had also visited Saudi Arabia for a few months.
He was allowed into Canada because he is a permanent resident. Authorities now suspect Malik may have been training at a terror camp in Libya, CTV News' Mercedes Stephenson has learned. Canada has been on high alert since October, when two separate terror attacks left a pair of Canadian soldiers dead. Several Canadians are suspected to have left the country to join Islamic extremist groups overseas. Others have been arrested for allegedly attempting to do the same. The CBSA flagged Malik as a potential threat last week and arrested him on Monday. Malik appeared in front of an immigration board on Wednesday. CBSA officials say they are pushing to have him deported. He has not been charged. The arrest comes as the federal government moves to pass a new anti-terror bill that would strengthen law enforcement's ability to arrest suspected terrorist sympathizers. Added content pages

Women In Trucking Association holds 6th annual “Salute to Women Behind the Wheel. By; Ellen Voie CAE, President/CEO Women in Trucking
When we see a woman getting out of the driver’s side of a tractor-trailer, it still turns our heads because it’s a rare sight. For every twenty professional drivers on the road, only one is a woman. For a glimpse of hundreds of female drivers, all dressed in red shirts, then join us at the Women In Trucking (WIT) annual “Salute to Women Behind the Wheel.” The female drivers are being honored for their role as pioneers in the trucking industry. For the sixth year, the organization will be recognizing these women on Saturday, March 28, at the MidAmerica Trucking Show at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville. The celebration begins at 11:00 am on the second floor of the south wing (rooms C201-204) with exhibitors, music, goodie bags for the drivers, and the WIT signature chocolate fountains. This year attendees will enjoy a huge semi-tractor cake after the ceremony. Marcia Taylor, President and CEO of Bennett International Group and winner of the 2014 “In-
14
fluential Woman in Trucking” award sponsored by Navistar, will address the group and thank them for their service. Taylor started the carrier with her late husband, J. D. Garrison, in 1974 with fifteen trucks and 30 trailers and has grown the company to its current fleet of 2,500 trucks. Recently Bennett International Group launched its “Women in the Driver’s Seat” initiative to encourage and support the women employed by the company. The attendees will pose for the annual group photo before numerous door prizes are then given to the female commercial drivers. This year’s top prize will be a $1,000 Walmart gift card, followed by ten Apple iPads, and $100 gift cards for Alliance Truck Parks and a TA Dining Card. In 2004, there was a women only truck convoy in Dronton, Netherlands that attracted 416 female professional drivers. The Women In Trucking Association would like to shatter this record at the 2015 Salute to Women Behind the Wheel, and will be awarding a plaque to the carrier
with the most drivers in attendance. Be sure to mark your calendar for this year’s Salute to Women Behind the Wheel. All female commercial drivers are welcome to participate and need not be members of the organization. Family and friends, sponsors, and WIT members are encouraged to attend to help honor these women for their service to the trucking industry. This year’s Gold sponsors of the event are Truck Bucks(SM) (Daimler Trucks North America) and Walmart. Silver sponsors are Bennett International Group, Holland, Inc., J.B. Hunt Transport, and Volvo
Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems, Daimler Trucks NA, GE Capital Transportation Finance, Great Dane Trailers, J.B. Hunt Transport, U.S. Xpress, and Walmart. NASCAR announced today that, effectively immediately, the indefinite suspension of Kurt Busch has been lifted. He is eligible to return to NASCAR racing under indefinite probation subject to additional mandatory requirements that include but are not limited to participation in a treatment program and full compliance with any judicial requirements placed upon him.
On Feb. 20, Kurt Busch, driver of the No. 41 car, was found to be in violation of:
• Section 12.1.a: Actions detrimental to stock car racing • Section 12.8: Behavioral Penalty
The decision to lift the suspension was made by NASCAR after Kurt Busch: • Complied with all requirements in its reinstatement program; • Completed the mandatory behavioral assessment sessions; and • The behavioral health care expert who conducted the sessions recommended to NASCAR that Kurt Busch be allowed to return to competition. Kurt Busch now will undergo additional steps to address the behavior for which he was penalized. The requirement that a driver must compete in all Championship Events of the current season to be eligible for The Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup has been waived for the pe-
riod of Kurt Busch’s suspension. Assuming he returns to NASCAR Sprint Cup competition, Kurt Busch would have zero Championship points to date after missing the Daytona 500 and the two most recent NASCAR Sprint Cup races at Atlanta Motor Speedway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway. “As we stated last week, the elimination of the possibility of criminal charges removed a significant impediment to Kurt Busch’s return to full status as a NASCAR member,” said Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR Executive Vice President and Chief Racing Development Officer. “We therefore have decided to move him to indefinite probation and waive the Chase requirement.
He has fully complied with our reinstatement program during his suspension and the health care expert who conducted his evaluation recommended his immediate return. “We have made it very clear to Kurt Busch our expectations for him moving forward, which includes participation in a treatment program and full compliance with all judicial requirements as a result of his off-track behavior.”
LAS VEGAS, NV - MARCH 07: Austin Dillon, driver of the #33 Rheem Chevrolet, leads the field to start the NASCAR XFINITY Series Boyd Gaming 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 7, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It seems like yesterday but 40 years ago Jack Shields and his 3 sons (Clarence, Jim & John) started their first restaurant an A&W, in a small northern town called Fort McMurray. At that time there were less then 5,000 people living in that community. From there they expanded to include the Fort’s first Smitty’s Pancake House & Diary Queen franchises, the Garden Cafe, Willies and Oriellys & the Stags Head Inn. As Fort McMuuray continued to grow so did the Shields family business. In 1986 after the introduction of the Liberal National Energy Program the family lost all their business and were forced to start all over again. Some 25 years ago Jack and Clarence started all over again by operating a restaurant located the Nisku Truck Stop. From there they continued to grow acquiring the Airways Country Inn and numerous other business interests. Brother Jim and his wife Jody ventured off to start a successful greenhouse operation, while John continued on with an award winning career in radio.
