1979 seems like yesterday. Well, for many of us, anyway. No satellite TV, no Channel 5, not even Channel Four The foundations hadn’t even been dug for Brookside, nor the Channel Tunnel for that matter. We were young enough to mourn the death of Sid Vicious, and Trevor Francis left Birmingham City and signed for Nottingham Forest for a British record of one million pounds - the same price as a season ticket at the City Ground these days, or an original signed copy of the Pistols “Never Mind ” The government announced spending cuts and there was a train strike - so some things haven’t changed. The election brought a littleknown housewife from Grantham to Downing Street There was also another lady, who really did make a turn, and started her own business –Mrs Jeanne Wilson.
Jeanne bought her first hotel in Shanklin, Isle of Wight Jeanne is sadly no longer with us, but it was into that three-channel, mobile phone-free world that she launched Daish’s. Forty-five years later, Daish’s Holidays has grown faster and bigger than all those channel choices on your interactive internet TV
So how does a family business, in the business of running a sumptuous hotel in Shanklin, migrate into a mainland holiday business, so well-known for equally comfortable coaches, and for touring around that big island you can see in the distance from Ryde Pier? “It’s all about steady progress and being true to our values,” says Paul Harper, the commercial director at present-day Daish’s Holidays, and of that, there can be no doubt. “The company is run on solid business lines, but we’ve never strayed from the values that Jeanne established ”
Paul joined Daish’s Holidays in 2015 as Head of Marketing, and now has 21 years’ hospitality industry experience under his belt, and it shows As the business has developed, Paul has been among those who have benefitted along the way. It’s that kind of company. On completion of his Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence exam in 2017, he took full responsibility for coaching, driver compliance, and vehicle compliance Paul was promoted to Commercial Director in 2020
Gro wing fro m Brita in ’s sma ll islan d into the big o ne
“During the 1980’s the business grew and grew, becoming increasingly popular with coach parties,” says Paul That growth, at a time when much of British industry was contracting, gave confidence to Jeanne that her business was moving in the right direction. “By 1985 Mrs Wilson decided to purchase her own coaches

Over 40 years of award winning customer ser vice
and start running tours to the Isle of Wight herself. Since then, the growth has been consistent, and built up into a company that’s familiar all across the UK. “The company includes 12 hotels, in ten popular destinations across England and Wales,” says Paul, pointing to stylish properties like the Imperial Hotel in a pleasantly leafy corner of Eastbourne, and the charming Victorian Esplanade Hotel in Scarborough
Daish’s operates a luxury coach fleet that brings a loyal and discerning clientele to their seaside destinations from 18 different pick-up routes across the UK, stretching from west Yorkshire to Cornwall “You can choose to self drive,” says Sam Wilson, who emphasises that flexibility is part of the welcome Sam is founder Jeanne’s son, and he has recently come into the still family-run business as Head of Estates He’s now in the business driving seat alongside his brother,
managing director George Brown. “We want to continue our mother’s legacy, to provide affordable UK breaks with excellent customer service, comfortable accommodation, good food and live entertainment, ” says Sam.
The company’s hotel fleet is ostentatiously discrete Its 35-strong fleet of luxury coaches is perhaps a little less minded to hide their identity behind a grand facade. The white livery, lined in gold, says this is a rather special way to begin your coach holiday “We run 32 Mercedes Tourismos and three Volvos,” says Paul. “With a spacious seating configuration, the emphasis
is on leisurely luxury, right from the pick-up point. The use of familiar places - such as bus and service stations, well connected for public transport, makes everything tie-in to the company ethos of relaxation ”
Wh at’s on offer an d th e be st bits of co ac h tou ring
“We offer four-night holidays at our 12 hotels around England and Wales,” says Sam Destinations are spread across 10 locations: Blackpool, Bournemouth, Eastbourne, Isle of Wight, Lake District, Llandudno, Newquay, Scarborough, Torquay, and Weymouth Sam is, unsurprisingly, unwilling to pick out a favourite, but one resort stands out “Eastbourne is our most popular destination,” concedes Sam.
It’s a traditional seaside resort, with customary seaside attractions like the pier and arcades, which our guests really enjoy ”
You’ll not find one of those
gold-lined and gleaming white coaches making a foreign foray Daish’s Holidays make a specialism of Britain. They’re a company that’s always appreciated the things that make Britain great, and that’s struck a chord with their clientele too. “We organise and market all our own holidays,” says Paul “So many clients tell us it’s all about the ability to sit back, relax and watch the world go by, even if you’re experiencing the great British traffic jam - but letting us take care of all that is what makes coach holidays so attractive ”
Daish’s Holidays is also well respected in the industry. “We also host up to 4 million of business annually from other travel operators, ” says Paul. “That includes contracting accommodation to InterChoice Holidays, Dunwood Travel, and Shearings, all well-respected names in their own right too, ” he says
For someone with as much
enthusiasm for the business as Paul, it may be surprising to find him taking time away from the office However, he does swap his business hot seat for the equally hot seat of his Triumph Bonneville motorbike, which is configured in a slightly more functional seating layout of: one
All the family may not be along for the ride on his twowheeler, but Paul does find time for them too and, in a busy schedule, he keeps his business vision focused with a spot of sharp shooting on the clay pigeon range We always ask our operator profile guests what they’d like to change if they could be king for the day.
It probably reflects Paul Harper’s outlook on life, and the ethos of Daish’s Holidays, that when asked, Paul’s simple response was “social care” we can all assume that’s a heartfelt sentiment for improvement, since Paul, and Daish’s Holidays, are all about caring

With so many places to visit in the East of England you’ll be spoilt for choice, it’s a perfect destination for days out, short breaks and holidays, for the active amongst us, ideal for cycling, walking and boating, not only does it have great countryside and coastline, but there are also theme parks, animal attractions, magnificent gardens and stately homes to visit A largely flat region of dramatic skies, if you’re lucky you might spot a mosquito in the air from the de Havilland Aircraft Museum or another iconic aircraft from Shuttleworth
(Modern Classic) This beautiful shell pink shrub rose fits beautifully within the old fashioned collection, but has the health of a modern day rose.

A traditional heartland of both farming and industry, often mistakenly overlooked by many seeking a great day out short break or holiday there’s plenty to pique your interest here. From the flat, unseeing Fens in Lincolnshire to the rolling valleys and fells of the inspiring Peak District, and much more in between, the East Midlands has its fair share of historic houses and gardens, home to Chatsworth House, Lincoln Cathedral and Newstead Abbey and why not book into England’s oldest hotel in Buxton also famous for its spring water although this isn’t the only libation on offer at the hotel or indeed the area

Heart of England
Has always been a booming economic centre, starting with the wool trade in the Middle Ages which enriched Coventry, before becoming the pivot of the Industrial Revolution fuelled from the Black Country, it still maintains a largely unspoilt region found to the north and west of Birmingham, which means that there’s plenty of things to do both outdoors and indoors, walking, cycling, or maybe a boat trip on the canals (there are more in this area than there are in Venice, although we haven’t spotted any gondola’s yet), visiting stately homes and gardens, why not visit Croome Court once a secret wartime airbase and now a visitor centre Outside is the grandest of English landscapes, ‘Capability’ Brown’s masterful first commission, with commanding views over the Malvern’s

The North East
A region that combines sandy beaches, castles and portcullises, miles and miles of natural terrain that's divided and dominated by Hadrian’s Wall, but also includes 3 vibrant and cosmopolitan cities and of course the birthplace of Ant and Dec who it would appear we can't get enough of The magnificent Durham Cathedral, on a huge promontory overlooking the River Wear, is held by many to be the finest example of Norman architecture in the land, and of course a more modern masterpiece The Angel of the North whose home is in Gateshead

The North West
The Industrial Revolution created mighty cities thanks to textiles and shipping which are now home to arguably the greatest football teams the world has ever seen, well at least the most successful and lucrative. It doesn't come as a surprise to learn that this is the 3rd most densely populated area in the United Kingdom after the South East and Greater London, there's something for everyone here, iconic cities that are as famous for their music scenes as their grand industrial buildings and museums Hear The Beatles resonate from street corners in Liverpool and the Stone Roses and Oasis rock in fashionable Manchester and now also home to Media City For nature lovers, landscapes filled with lakes, estuaries buzzing with birdlife, and there's the Lake District another oasis of tranquil beauty.

Exclusive visits to the Walled Gardens of Poulton Hall
Poulton Hall is the historic seat of the Lancelyns and Greens since 1093, and the present Hall is the third building on the site, dating from 1652. The Walled Gardens, restored to almost the same layout as in Victorian times, have sculptures and planting based on Childrens literature, from Robin Hood and King Arthur to The Hobbit and Harry Potter.
Private visits from 20 to 50 guests with cream teas or other afternoon tea options can be booked, and make a relaxing end to the day when combined with a visit to Chester or the near by Lady Lever Art Gallery, or just an afternoon out.
Price typically £12 per head including afternoon tea (served on our "Indies" china) Musical entertainment extra at cost, and larger groups of up to 120 subject to staff availability. Poulton Rd, Bebington, Wirral CH63 9LN
