INTERACTIVE KINETIC SCULPTURE 2013-2014

IMAGE - MICHAEL RAY VERA CRUZ ANGELES

BREAKING THE SURFACE AREA: DATE: CLIENT: ROLE: PARTNER:

250 M2 2013 - 2014 LUNDIN NORWAY ARCHITECT / INTERIOR / ENGINEER SDG / ABIDA / INTEK / PIVOT

Amber waves of acrylic plastic extend through the floor of a two-story, mechanized matrix in Breaking The Surface, a new interactive installation from Scandanavian Design Group, ctrl+n, Abida, Pivot Product Design and Intek. The kinetic sculpture is meant to evoke an abstract image of the geological world below sea level, a nod to the technology used by the commissioning oil company, Lundin Norway. Breaking The Surface can be enjoyed from two distinct views— below and above the ‘surface.’ On the lower level, the installation is a 23 x 23 grid of plastic stalactites hanging at just about face level.

BREAKING THE SURFACE

INTERACTIVE KINETIC SCULPTURE 2013-2014 BREAKING THE SURFACE When people approach, the rods are retracted into the building’s upper level, easily dodging the heads of passers-by while simultaneously inspiring a tide-like effect. The complex system of sensors, pipes, and moving mechanical parts is controlled by a customized openFrameworks setup— including several add-ons the designers created themselves— giving Breaking The Surface an air of exploration that suits the depths of its geographic inspiration. We’re sure they made it completely airtight—though it can be fun to immersed in an incoming wave, no one wants to be hit with an unresponsive mechanical stalactite. N/A 2014 - ONGOING NATIONAL MUSEUM OF ARCHITECTURE INTERIOR / FURNITURE DESIGN QUINZE AND MILAN

*play should entice and encourage the visitor, the elements of the piece should not be considered as utilitarian objects but as parts to be moved, altered and placed in order to engage the participant and shape the spaces they occupy. ctrl+n do not want to dictate the users experience, but rather to allow for individual interpretation and spacial intervention. *play is part of a group of ongoing and evolving investigations into different production techniques and an exploration into interdisciplinary design processes. ctrl+n see these projects as micro versions of their architectural commissions in terms of working methods and form making.

SPACIAL INTERVENTION 2012

LINEAR AREA: DATE: CLIENT: ROLE: PARTNER:

N/A 2012 NORWEGIAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTURE / NAL ARCHITECT / DESIGNER WILDCARD NAL / KIRSTIE LITTLE

Linear is an installation where users interact with the space by moving rotating panels. The concept was to engage the user and encourage movement through the space framework we created. The overlay of colour and pattern helped define spacial arrangements and offered the user an extra experience allowing them to both control the space and also the colour and pattern on the space. Linear was a collaboration between architects, Johnathon Lloyd Little & Erik Brett Jacobsen and London based designer Kirstie Little. The concept followed a fascination with pattern, colour and transformable space. The structure reconfigured according to the viewers position and involvement with the movable components.

WE MADE THIS / MOBILE CULTURAL ARENA AREA: DATE: CLIENT: ROLE: PARTNER:

N/A 2011- 2012 NORSK KULTURRAD ARCHITECT / DESIGNER WARK / TONEE / MAREN WEDOE

In order to engage the youth of today with art and cultural exhibits we first have to take ourselves back to those times and understand what it was that captured our imaginations or what in fact disengaged us with our cultural surroundings and opportunities. In order to attract teenagers to art, they themselves must feel part of the creative process. Self involvement with our immediate context allows our minds to absorb and expand. Strongest childhood memories of this so called cultural absorption are that of science museums, where we directly influence our surroundings. In our project the children are truly engaged and reap the rewards of their own work, they are also offered the opportunity to evolve during the process, reflecting on how their work is influenced and changed througout.

CORTEN PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE 2012

IMAGE - CTRL+N

MUSTAD GANGBRU AREA: DATE: CLIENT: ROLE:

100 M2 2012 O.MUSTAD & SON PROPERTY AS ARCHITECT / ENGINEER

Mustad pedestrian bridge connects Mustad business park with nearby Gjovik town centre. The bridge spans a total of 32 meters with two triangulated girders, hidden within the corten steel clad railings. A lighting strip along the bottom of the railings emphasises this architectonic point. The steel picks up the colour of the existing brickwork of the adjacent buildings, and the contrast to the grey concrete deck as well as the illuminated strip, provides easy orientation for the visually impared. Cast into the prefabricated concrete decking elements is a crystaline sine-wave pattern, a referance to the streams of information going in and out of the business park. CONCEPT HOUSING 2014

IMAGE - TEGMARK

WRAP HOUSE AREA: DATE: CLIENT: ROLE:

250 M2 PER HOUSE 2014 - ONGOING NOT DISCLOSED ARCHITECT / INTERIOR / ENGINEER

The WRAP house is a concept house currently in developpment for this first site. The house consists of two main elements, firstly the “wrap” element used to encase and shelter and secondly the element refered to as the “functional box.” By using a simple concept and form, we have greater control and concentration on what makes a home a home. We have more focus on views and light and a clearer definition between spaces. The concept allows for change in both client decisions for spacial use and is also adaptable to different site variations but our fist housing scheme (seen here) is adapted to a steep hill environment and has a large focus on maximizing light and view. 18

KEBONY HOUSE AREA: DATE: CLIENT: ROLE:

250 M2 2013 - 2014 LASSE HALDRUP JUUL ENTREPRENEUR / PROJECT LEADER

The project is a complete rehabilitation of a 75-year-old funkisstyled house, built in 1939. Everything from the original house, except the basement walls, load bearing wooden-structure, staircase and chimney has been redeveloped and enhanced. The exterior skin of the house is covered with Kebonizated Southern yellow pine cladding, in a unique profile developed for this project. The interior plan is light, spatial, open and flexible with a minimalistic approach, a “no-compromise-attitude” to details and a high level of quality to the materials, which makes this a house that has close to zero cost added to maintenances during its lifetime. GJOVIK HIGH SCHOOL AREA: DATE: CLIENT: ROLE:

5700 M2 2014 O.MUSTAD & SON PROPERTY AS ARCHITECT

A feasibility study for the establishment of new classrooms, auditorium and administration building for the university college (HIG). Here we have dealt with this feasibility study in parallel with the location of Kallerud Campus where HIG is situated today. Mustad Industrial Park (MNP) is advantageously placed below the main route to the city center and is in immediate walking distance from the College. With this in mind we have considered the existing buildings in the MNP and adapted to the space program to HIG, so that it is consistent with the school’s needs. IMAGE - TEGMARK 22

HAUGEN ARENA AREA: DATE: CLIENT: ROLE: PARTNER:

750 M2 2012 - ONGOING N/A ARCHITECT / LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT LANDSKAPSFABRIKKEN

Set in the heart of St. Hans Haugen, this new arena will act as a positive addition to the existing context. The concept of the opening box creates both internal and external spaces which allows for multi climatic usage, enclosing us in the winter and creating a much needed barrier to the elements. In the summer the box opens up to reveal itself as a larger stage sitting alongside the surrounding nature as the box transforms from a solid element into a ceiling in the sky. The proposal accommodates for known and upcoming musicians to rehearse and to perform. It will host productions and art exhibitions doubling as a usable space for local schools and kindergardens. The lower level of the project will house a restaurant and bar combined with an art gallery.

NORTHERN LIGHTS

OBSERVATION TOWER 2014

OBSERVATION TOWER AREA: DATE: CLIENT: ROLE:

175 M2 2014 - ONGOING NOT DISCLOSED ARCHITECT

For this commission we wanted to transfer the story of the Midgard Serpent into our design. The “ramp” (the serpent’s back) meanders upwards around buildings and surrounds it. The two elements are physically connected, but the experience of them are separated. The outer ramp is a tribute to the surrounding landscape, offering 360 degree views, while the inner building is constrained by the serpent. The sharp contrast between the experience of the interior and the external elements facilitates for the different features of the project. Inside, we create a ‘black box’ with the possibility of art installations with reference to the Northern Lights while the ramp serves as a viewing platform, and a place where you can experience being at one with the environment. 24

FARVERIKVARTALET AREA: DATE: CLIENT: ROLE:

46 500 M2 2008 - ONGOING FARVERIKVARTALET AS ARCHITECT / REGULATION

Farverikvartalet is a major regulation and masterplanning project in the heart of Gjoviks city center. It will be a major factor in regenerating the immediate area and will add much needed commercial, residential and cultural facilities to the area. It will also enhance and revitalise the river front bringing people back to the waterways. The new promenade will house mainly retail units with a large culture and dance school situated at the front of the project. The mid levels will contain new office space and four towers will provide new luxury apartments in the city center. The project houses a library, concert arena, exhibition spaces, a restaurant and office space combining with many external elements to further facilitate the arena spaces. The concept keeps the building low and integral to it’s surrounding landscape. This sensitivity allows for a lot of functional space without negatively impacting the surroundings. Although internal functions are fixed the exterior elements are flexible and multifunctional to allow all year round use and to cope with large influxes of people during festival / concert periods. The design opens up accesibility to the site beyond that of normal vehicular access. We have programmed for both better pestrian and boat access to increase site use and create a more vibrant and diverse space.

Skibladner house is a landmark in Gjøvik, with a distinctive design of glass and laminated timber. It is the home of the Mjøsa white swan Skibladner for the winter. Inside the house, the interaction between the water surface and the glass panels gives very special acoustics.
