Redbourn Classics Motor Show is a hit in Redbourn Redbourn Common 7th September | Photos courtesy of Tony Barr Thousands of people turned out for this year’s show, which raised over £15,000 for two local chari es. The Friends of St Mary’s, a conserva on charity which looks a er Redbourn’s only Grade 1 listed building St Mary’s Church, and its grounds for use by the village, and Redbourn Care Group, a charity which aims to combat loneliness and increase mobility for residents of Redbourn. In addi on, £1,000 was given to the Redbourn Village Museum to pay for landscaping in the gardens around the recently rebuilt Por co. These were not the only organisa ons that benefi ed; 22 local community groups and other chari es, including the Guides, Scouts, Redbourn Players, Friends of the Nickey Line, Ver Valley Society and Redbourn r joined in to have Library

stalls as part of the Village Fête to raise money or promote their ac vi es. This year’s show was the 3rd ‘Redbourn Classics’ and the busiest show to date, with an es mated 5,000 people coming to see the vehicles and other a rac ons. More than 350 classic vehicles (25 years old plus) were on display on the Common including cars, trucks, motorbikes, tractors and steam engines. For the modern sports car enthusiast, there was a display of modern supercars at the Village Museum including Ferraris and McLarens. There was fun for all the family with kiddie’s gokarts, fairground rides and a vintage penny arcade and to add to the general entertainment, a local band, Missing the Ferry and Redbourn Folk Club sang and played for the crowds.
The success of the event demonstrates how caring Redbourn is and many people have commented on the friendly, happy atmosphere. There are lots of photos of the show on the website www.redbournclassics.co.uk Thank you sponsors: Redbourn Auto Solu ons, The Holly Bush, Statham’s Motor Engineers, Redbourn Physio, St Albans Van Hire and Fine & Country for suppor ng the event and Redbourn Parish Council for allowing us to use the Common. We hope to run another show in September 2020, but we do need an army of volunteers to make it successful. If you enjoyed the day and would like to get involved next year, please get in touch: redbournclassics@gmail.com Report by Jenny Gilmore On behalf of the Redbourn Classics Commi ee
