entral. Back in 2012 at the inaugural CQ City v Country Gladstone was very fortunate to be able to host this event at the Grand Hotel. For being the first time we found the format exciting especially getting to play against other Associations and making up a zone and making new friends. To say that there were some hiccups is an understatement but it still gave an idea on how future events could be held.
Q
ueensland. So it was from this first event where our best players from all Associations are now vying for positions to play in the CQ City v Country and the Zone trials. We can only get better and stronger with each coming year.

raser coast Our Association has been run-
ning for over 15 years with over 100 members. We are proud to be the host association for 2013 and 2014 CQ CvC. We strive to make every year more successful and we have just purchased 6 new AEBF standard pool tables. Gladstone and Rockhampton have also purchased 2 tables each to ensure the playing standards are at a higher level for this event. In 2012 our A grade men’s team won the Central Queensland Mens Team event and in 2013 our A Grade men’s team and ladies team were the overall winners and our B grade men’s team came in second place. In the past we have had ladies and men represent our Association not only at the zone level but also the state level. In 2013 Trae Spasojevic placed 2nd in the Queensland Junior State under 15’s championship Team events are on Wednesday nights and singles events on Monday nights. We currently have 16 teams with more wanting to join next year. Fraser Coast also have challenge matches against Gympie and Maryborough annually. We have also raised money for local charities through many fundraising activities for our local community The Kondari Hotel, Harveys Bar and Bistro, Hervey Bay Sports Club, Miners Arm Hotel and the Community Centre in River heads support us by allowing us to play out of their wonderful venues. Kondari hold a money comp on Thursday nights and Harveys Bar and Bistro on a Friday night. Our main goal is to have our own club house in the near future.

LADSTONE 8-Ball Association originally started
from a group of friends who loved to play pool. We are talking around 40 years or so when this Association first started. With any new sporting club they had their hiccups but over the years more people started to get into the game and in the late 80’s, 90’s and 00’s we had a very strong Association with member numbers anywhere up to 350 people. I remember one year we had 32 registered teams.. In the past couple of years our association has now become more involved with the QEBF and we have been very fortunate where we have had some of our best players go to certain tournaments to represent Gladstone. We have had players go to the State Masters Trials – Jon Cleary, John (Bull) Bean, Graham Wright and Colleen Pershouse over the last 2 years. We have had players also go to the State Women’s Trials – Sandie Wright for both Singles and Team trials and Toni Allen for the Team trials. Last year Jamie Myles was crowned the CQ B Grade Men’s Singles Champion where he then went to Brisbane to contest the B Grade Singles Championship and he came 4th out of 32 players. Amazing effort. So as our Association over the years was building up into a strong and steady Association we also knew that we had to acknowledge the people who not only started our Association but also the members who have kept it going so back in early 00’s we started Life Membership for these members. We have nine Life Members and they are: Bill Collins, Allan ‘Unga’ Barry (deceased), John ‘Bull’ Bean, JJ Johansen, Sandie Wright, Roy Lazenby, Peter Schultz, Kevin Hart (deceased) and Stuart Syddall.
S
o now we are into 2014 and there are two new Associations who have joined our Zone so would like to welcome Hervey Bay 8-Ball Association and Pioneer 8-Ball Association. This has now made our zone strong as it now consists of seven (7) Associations in total. We are looking forward to this year’s CQ City v Country and Zone Trials and wish everyone good potting. 9

sits the FAMILY TREE which represents you and me, and the Family of Friends that have grown over the years, since our beginnings at the Andergrove Tavern.
A bond of trust and goodwill that has attracted more and more Players and supporters each year, the mirror of a growing Family, filled with Brotherhood, Sisterhood, and the love and respect of each other, first and foremost. In the centre is the EIGHT BALL. The Sport that we love, with a passion. The Sport that has brought us all together. The Sport that led us to the formation of the Pioneer Eight Ball Association. The HANDS surrounding the Eight Ball represents the nurturing of the Pioneer, the support of all members and supporters, and the guidance in teachings, to play the game in a sporting manner. The GECKOS signify our home, the Golden Gecko, our origin and club house owned and operated by Allan and Marie. With their trust, belief, generosity, and kindness, makes the PEBA a reality and most significantly history. The HIBISCUS FLOWERS symbolizes Mackay and the beautiful tropics which we are nestled in. The tropical flowers grow in abundance along our scenically blue river, the Pioneer, which flows from our Eungella rainforests, through our city of Mackay, into our pristine ocean.
