Avid writer and traveller, Jake Roche tells us about his passion for writing, and the release of his successful Inspector Boyle novels. The golden age of Detective fiction
Born and raised in Windsor, Berkshire in 1990, I have long had a passion for writing and the creative process. My favourite reads include the works of Agatha Christie, cosy crime and historical novels. My own novels are set in the 1930’s and inspired by the ‘Golden Age of Detective Fiction’.
My other huge passion is travel, and so far I’ve been lucky enough to visit 38 countries, all of which inspire my writing projects and general thirst for knowledge.
Having recently turned 30, I set myself the challenge of writing my first fiction book as a birthday gift to myself. I am a great believer in ‘writing what you read’ and as such a ‘whodunit’ in the traditional sense became my chosen theme. So far I have plans for a further two novels and ideas for more beyond that which will see Boyle undertaking many adventures around the world. I am also in the process of beginning other novels away from the Boyle series. Hopefully I will be able to hone my skills with a view to acquiring a literary agent in 2022.

Away from writing, I own a hospitality marketing agency WakeUpCall Visit: www.wakeup-call.co.uk
Originally intended as a one off novel, the character of Inspector Boyle inspired me to make The Oakford Court Mystery into the first of a potential series. His character has plenty of scope for development and will form the main protagonist in other novels going forward.
