Wear Blue for Rescue
Why animals and their owners everywhere are choosing to Wear Blue for Rescue in support of Battersea’s new campaign.
World-leading animal welfare charity, Battersea, is asking people from across the UK to show their support for rescue dogs and cats everywhere by getting involved in its new Wear Blue for Rescue campaign.
Despite one in four dogs and cats coming from a rescue centre, many will hear about breeds such as French Bulldogs or Labradors being the nation’s favourite pets. Battersea believes a spotlight should be shone on the much-loved rescue animals that are in homes across the country, and in all walks of life, regardless of their breed. So, from sharing images of their own rescue pets on social media platforms or shouting about how they support the work rescue centres do - Battersea is calling on members of the public to join the rescue movement.
Chief Executive, Peter Laurie, says, “Rescue animals are one of a kind and every year hundreds of thousands of animals become rescues for all sorts of different reasons. Wear Blue for Rescue is Battersea’s exciting new campaign that aims to champion our love for the wonderful, quirky rescue dogs and cats who just need a second chance in life. All the underdogs who have become top cats and are now living their best lives and bringing joy to their owners’ lives on sofas, in laps, and even on life-saving missions, around the world.”
Peter continues, “Everyone can join in with Wear Blue for Rescue, you don’t have to own a rescue dog or cat to champion rescue animals and show your love and support for the organisations who care for them.”
As part of Wear Blue for Rescue, Battersea has launched the Rescue symbol, a new symbol of support for rescue animals behind which people can unite to champion the wonderful rescue animals that are all around us in our homes and communities.
Animals such as Hendrix, who arrived at Battersea through no fault of his own when his previous owner’s circumstances changed. It took a few days for Hendrix to settle into his new surroundings, but his friendly nature was clear from the start, and he enjoyed visits from staff and volunteers. It wasn’t long before Hendrix caught the eye of his new owners Kat and Olly. They were immediately taken in by his affectionate nature and decided he would be the perfect addition to their family. Hendrix settled into his new home very quickly, showing his inquisitive side as he slowly ventured outside and learnt how to use a cat flap.
Kat says, “Many people think that cats are aloof and not particularly loyal, but this couldn’t be further from the truth with Hendrix. He really is our sidekick and friend. We’re wearing blue for rescue because rescue has meant that we found each other, and our lives are all the better for it.”
Rescue dog, Nala, was just a young puppy when her owners found the demands of puppy ownership too much to cope with. Thankfully, they made the responsible decision to hand her over to Battersea where the charity’s expert staff could look after her until she found a new family. Nala needed a bit more behavioural training in a home environment and socialisation with both people and dogs, so she was taken in by foster carer Hannah, who was very dedicated to Nala’s training.
Hannah says, “Nala was a very energetic, enthusiastic and intelligent puppy. She was eager to please and loved using her brain. I could see a lot of potential in her from a training aspect and wanted to take this further. She slotted straight in with our other dogs while on foster and we just couldn’t imagine not having her in our lives. Nala made such a huge impact in a short space of time that we had to adopt her! Now we’re wearing blue for rescue to build support of the new Rescue symbol and to encourage as many people to get behind rescue as much as possible.”
