fiber arts INDIGO DYEING! Instructor: Haylie Zapantis Learn the exciting ins and outs of indigo dyeing using shibori techniques. You will learn the unique process of vat dyeing with indigo, creating your own patterns inspired by traditional and modern pattern designs. We will explore how to make, dye, and maintain your very own vat. We will explore the endless ranges of blues indigo can offer on a variety of fabrics. In this multi-week class, explore shibori dyeing with indigo creating traditional and modern designs as well as batik dyeing using beeswax to create more painterly designs. This class will focus mainly on the batik process while exploring the endless range of blues indigo can offer on a variety of fabrics. Students also learn how to maintain their own vat. Rather than focusing on the final outcome, enjoy a stress-free journey and process of creation. Using your own creativity is highly encouraged. During this silk scarf painting workshop, design two 100% silk scarves using three different techniques such as non-wax resist and fabric folding techniques. floral design BASIC FLORAL DESIGN FOR YOUR EVENT Instructor: Sarah Peters In this 4-week class, learn the basic design skills to plan an arrangement of your favorite flowers for a dinner or special event. You’ll gain information on how to prepare flowers, build a beautiful arrangement, and learn how to make it last. Silk flowers are also discussed for permanent arrangements for centerpieces, altar décor, or reception areas. Perfect for all levels who wish to create arrangements using local and store brought flowers. All supplies provided, except floral snips. FLORAL ART & DESIGN I Instructor: Sarah Peters Learn to make a floral masterpiece in less than four hours! This class teaches you the basics of keeping flowers fresh, selecting the best flowers for your event, and making a professional looking arrangement to wow your friends. framing BASIC PICTURE FRAMING Instructor: Cindy Rinker An introduction to picture framing using ready-made frames in standard sizes up to 22”x28”. This class covers mat cutting, glass cutting, and finishing. Students will bring their own frames and artwork. Mat board, glass, and hardware will be provided. Students may bring their own mat cutter and tools or use the Center’s. A list of recommended tools will be provided. JEWELRY DESIGN WIRE CROCHET BRACELET & BEADED EARRINGS Instructor: Pat Whitlow A bracelet is the perfect project for learning wire crochet or to practice the technique if you already know it. It may look complicated, but it is easy to master. Knowledge of the crochet chain stitch is all that is required! In addition to the bracelet, you’ll also make a matching pair of beaded earrings. BIRD’S NEST CHARM NECKLACE Instructor: Pat Whitlow An easy wire wrapping technique will be used to make this attractive bird’s nest charm complete with eggs, which hangs on a simple leather cord, also constructed in class. Makes a great gift – the number of eggs in the nest can vary making it the perfect present for Mother’s Day! No previous experience is required to complete this fun project. Learn basic bead stringing techniques and how to work with leather to create both the tassel and a stylish cord to connect to the beaded sections. INTRO TO WIRE WRAPPING Instructor: Heather Thompson Learn the basics of making wire wrapped pendants by using wire to enclose a cabochon stone using basic framing, binding, and bail-making techniques. RESIN SILVER-PLATED SPOON PENDANT Instructor: Susann Belflower Learn how to take a silver-plated spoon from tabletop utensil to the centerpiece of an extravagant necklace! In the first two hours, arrange your perfect composition in the spoon using anything you like – an old photograph, beads, crystals, vintage jewelry parts, etc. Bring your own or choose from materials provided. Then ‘freeze’ your design in resin. In the second class, use glass, vintage beads, crystals and chain to create a necklace using your completed spoon focal. SNOWFLAKE EARRINGS Instructor: Susann Belflower Get ready for winter by wearing your own handmade snowflake earrings. Using bead weaving techniques, students will use needle and thread (Fireline) and specialty beads such as superduos, teardrops, and Swarovski crystals to create a sparkling pair of earrings for the season. DESIGN, REPAIR, RECYCLE, & UPCYCLE Instructor: Susann Belflower No need to discard your broken jewelry! Learn to repair it or make another beautiful piece of jewelry out of it. Or, maybe you have old jewelry from your mother or grandmother (i.e. a vintage brooch, bracelet, or necklace). You can design an interesting new piece using beads, charms, chains, and other items. Materials will be provided to compliment the pieces you bring to class. Basic jewelry making skills are helpful, but not required. visual arts SOFT PASTEL PAINTING & DRAWING Instructor: Linda Leah Wolitz Beginner and experienced painters alike will enjoy drawing and painting with soft pastels from photographs or still life. Soft pastels are a dry form of pigment mixed with a binder to hold the color together. They offer the same bold color as oil paints minus the liquid and the mess. Weekly demonstrations include discussion of the medium as well as individual painting instruction. photography HOW YOUR DIGITAL CAMERA WORKS Instructor: Arthur Stephens Learn how to use your digital camera properly without relying on the automatic setting to know what to do. This workshop provides a comprehensive overview on all the operations of your digital SLR camera. Cameras with interchangeable lenses are preferred for this course, but not required. Students without laptops may learn about the program and workflow via handouts on basic functions of importing, watermarking, archiving, renaming, editing, and more!
