3. Living and working in the community Many of Boston Lithuanian Community Group’s members have lived and worked in the UK for over 20 years with their children born in the UK. This knowledge and awareness of both the ‘old world’ and the new has ensured the challenges, nuances and subtleties of assimilating into a new culture are finely tuned, with an awareness of the needs, dreams and aspirations of a wide cross section of the local community known. This knowledge has proven to be of great assistance when liaising and entering into partnerships with local groups and organisations. BLC is pleased and proud to have been partners and stakeholders in a diverse range of projects, programmes and initiatives over the first ten years of their existence. These local partnerships foster and strengthen trust and goodwill, ensuring a more socially cohesive community.
