How do we make ideas and theories believable, perceivable, part of the everyday (Dunne 2007) landscape of design? It’s the values that become manifest in design objects (things: be them material or immaterial). Behind is a story about what kind of sign it could be. It’s about how ideology and theory informs the im/material world. Nothing is neutral. Everything has some political content in it. Tangible Objectivity
Manifest from the theoretical ideas and concepts your belief system as a designer derived from your manifesto. Each student is to utilize and integrate issues raised in the manifesto to determine their own design manifestation. Develop and present 3 manifestation concepts. These will be designed, debated and discussed by you as things that reflect, communicate, symbolize and represent in themselves the intent of your group manifesto. How do things inform us of their embedded ideas? 25% due September 24 th Design ONE concept. These will be designed, debated and discussed by you as things that reflect, communicate, symbolize and represent in themselves the intent of your group manifesto. Consider how all designs come together as an exhibit. 25% due October 1 th Final MANIFESTATION. Each member of the group’s manifestation will remain part of a ‘collective’ of theories and ideas. This phase of the project will also attest to how your manifestations are both unique to you as an individual designer yet still maintain core values of the manifesto. 50% due October 5 th
