Hi! I am Sinitta, and I am a makeup and body artist based in Nairobi, Kenya Cultured Ego is a blog showcasing alternative African fashion and music that I founded in 2013. I am a jack off all trades, and through creating content for Cultured Ego as a one woman band, I found my passion, Makeup and body art. at the beginning of my career I had the pleasure of working at MAC cosmetics for just under two years, and have had freelance experience working with influencial brands such as Vogue.com, Edun, Cocolili Africa, BBC, Adele Dejak and many more! I enjoy working with innovators, creatives and people that are looking to bring their vision to life! As the African Fashion and beauty industry grows, my focus shifts towards working with African brands and working together in developing their visual aesthetics through makeup. 4 months into 2019 already and so many exciting projects are in the pipeline and I can not wait to share those with you! Here is a tiny catch up on what I have been up to so far! Enjoy and see you in 4 months! Thandiwe and myself have been working on creating unique visuals together for 6 years now! Clean beauty was something she wanted to experiment with to give a more minimalist look as opposed to the highly stylised looks and photoshoots we had worked on together in the past. She wanted to showcase a skin beauty look. We incorporated different foundation shades and beauty products to give off a foam look to add to the skin and beauty feel for a little more of a creative spin!
BEHIND THE SCENES Ami Doshi Shah is a Kenyan designer and maker of eclectic adornment! Her most recent SS’19 collection #SaltoftheEarth was presented at the internationalfashion showcase at London fashion week 2019 Be sure to check out her latest work and previous collections on her page! So honoured to have been a part of this kick ass team! Here is a bts of what we got up to during our shoot in Magadi.
LET IT GLOW PHOTOGRAPHER : THANDIWE MURIU MODEL : LAURA ANJILI CREATIVE DIRECTOR AND MAKEUP ARTIST : SINITTA AKELLO Let it glow was really one of those concepts that just sparked in my mind! The funny thing is, I did not get the total effect I was after with this. I wanted to acheive a reflective, almost mannequin effect! It ended up turning out brilliantly! My OG collaborator, Thandiwe and Anjili just brought this to life and we created Let it glow

I was interested to explore the idea of ghosts trate the meaning of a void that fit in with the mood of photography I rather went for the idea of negative space and rather than filling in ment, I “outlined” it with a stroke to give the idea of negative space. idea of a void. The lips were to have a similar effect however for a full p effect we decided on set on shoot day to help the makeup translate a, filling in the lips would be a better direction. I loved the original anything to bring home a concept, I am here for it!
